I own Galaxy tablets in a range of sizes and iPad and a range of e-readers that approach being tablets. The Ematic Genesis 7 in tablet surprised me delightfully. I love the price and will buy 40 for my students. I plan to recall my tablets from the students periodically and reload my teaching material as it evolves. I loaded EZ multimedia PDF reader onto the Genesis and can read my educational PDFs with embedded videos that play when the page opens. The USB 2 port allows me to load files onto it from both my PC and MAC work computers. I had to relearn how to work with a capacitive touch screen. One needs to be touch more firmly and confidently than with a resistive screen on the expensive tablets, but after that mental adjustment everything is fine. The 800x400 pixel image is one step down on that the more expensive 7 inch tablets, but it is still fine. The speakers are a squeak weaker than the of the most expensive 7 inch tablets, but they are sufficient. The speed is one blink slower than that of the more expensive tablets, but it is sufficiently fast. All my Wifi connections set up easily and my Genesis tablet is "on line" instantly wherever I usually am. I Google a lot and check work email a lot. There is an "administrator" button in "settings" that would be wonderful if I could activate it and pass word control access to the directory to protect my teaching material copyrights. I need to figure that out still. As an educator I love this device, the price, and am very happy with it for my purposes. Personally I love my Galaxies best, but I won't buy those for my students. I like the idea of a digital text book that I own, modify, and hand out to each new class of students, protecting my copyrights. The Genesis, EX multimedia PDF reader and $[$]is the best answer to date. I just need to sort out an administrator password control on it.

I have all Apple products: iPads, iPhone, MAC's etc, but I was enticed by the [$] price and a recent review that mentioned this tablet. You can never have too many tablets….so I purchased one, out of curiosity. All in all, it works just fine….I was surprised it has an recent version of Android - Jelly Bean 4.1, but the screen resolution is the biggest problem. And as my headline suggests, you get what you pay for. Speed is a little pokey from time to time as it tries to do other things (like download email or an APP). The touch screen is a bit temperamental from time to time. It has not crashed in the few weeks I've used it. Battery life is OK, but it's hard to judge based on my usage as I have mine in my media room, and it it's in sleep most of the time. I'll use to do a quick search on WEB or check my personal email. The case is all plastic, very lightweight, has a good (not great) feel like an iPad or Nexus, but again - please consider the price point and intended usage.I had a Nexus 7 before the iPad MINI came out, and cleary it's screen is considerably better. And my IPad MINI is light years better in speed and screen res. This might a good tablet for a very young person, or as a second/third tablet as in my case. Certainly at $80 you get what you paid for.NOTE: My Recommend to a Friend is based on the caveats noted in my review.

    Not worth it

Comments about 4GB Genesis Prime 7" Multi-Touch Tablet (Black):

Minor improvements could elevate this tablet to compete with $-$ range. The screen's resolution is worst than my old ipod nano, the sound's good, and so is the internet browsing. The lack of a volume rocker also does this one in, and turns it into a toy-like device. There really is no excuse for such a low quality resolution in 2014, especially with a tablet, intended mainly for pictures, videos and internet. A letdown, indeed.

Comments about 4GB Genesis Prime 7" Multi-Touch Tablet (Black):

My two oldest kids use it for simple games and Netflix, but they also wrecked the charger in a short period of time (though the charger from my old Nook filled in just fine). You will definitely want to expand the storage; my kids filled this thing up in less than a month with games.

This is a relatively slow machine, but again, it was cheap and serves our purposes perfectly. My kids love having an alternative to their DS's. I probably wouldn't use it unless nothing else was available (I'd much rather deal with my phone's smaller screen, given its superior speed and storage capacity).

Bottom line, we got what we paid for, but we also got just what we wanted: a cheap first tablet for the kids. Just don't expect to show off with this thing...

Comments about 4GB Genesis Prime 7" Multi-Touch Tablet (Black):

I got this tablet for my oldest son for games and Netflix etc. It is not fast enough for me to want to use on any regular basis (by any stretch of the imagination), but I have had little in the way of complaints from my son. I have installed a couple of apps to help out with taking out the garbage, since there is not much memory on the device, but after adding a larger SD card (and an app to move other apps there automatically), we have not had any real space issues since Christmas. The charger was easily damaged on the device end (too much bending against the wall; still, it gave out in the space of a week, as opposed to the months needed for my kids to wreck my phone chargers). For the price, however, I am happy with the results. My son has a tablet that suits his needs and interests at present.I would recommend this as a first device for kids under 10; it has also been handy in distracting my younger kids when we're waiting on the older ones to finish piano lessons, sports, etc.

Works well on simple games. Very slow on more sophisticated games like Minion rush, where it is almost impossible to play.

I purchased this type of product (E-matic 4GB 7" Touch Screen)and it would not work right after one year limited waranty period. I returned the product with additional cost of $30. However, its battery did not work properly after about three months. The product was returned again and replaced but it only lasted a few months until its keyboard miserable (did not work probably). I returned the broken products once more according to the agreement but it is never replaced. Everytime I called someone would say oh the replacement is ready to ship or they hung up the phone. The agreement that comes with the products id BIG LIE.

I bought one of these as a second tablet for Android app development purposes.

Overall it's okay. I like to think of it as a defeatured Nexus 7. Basically it's 50% of the Nexus 7 at 40% of the cost.

If it's your primary tablet it will probably drive you nuts since everything is pretty slow to respond on it.

The quality of the device is pretty good and it's nice to have a pretty recent version of Android on it (Jelly Bean 4.1.1). Having Google Play pre-installed is a huge feature as well.

Considering the price, you really can't god wrong.

This is my first Android device. I bought it after seeing a positive review in the New York Times. It does everything that I expected it to do and was vey easy to set up.
