I bought this backpack to take on a trip to Hawaii with me. I do *not* check my primary camera, lenses or laptops.

Flew under the seat in front of me in this bag:
Canon 5D MK II
Canon 24-70 L
Canon 70-200 IS II
580 EX II
Cables, Batteries, Chargers
Macbook Pro 15''
iPad
Change of clothes

notes:
Getting your camera out of the bag is not a quick process.
There could be a little more support on the bottom - it is a soft material and your camera takes all the weight of anything on top.

I actually returned this backpack. Not because of any manufacturing problem but for the lack of utility I was after. I needed a second backpack to act as my "personal bag" when I fly. My first carry on bag is a full size Lowepro camera backpack which carries an amazing amount of my kit. I needed this second back pack to fit under the seat in front of me, carry my laptop and have enough room for my documents and personal items needed for long flights. The idea was also that I could either fit some of my main photo/video kit from my over packed backpack in the small sectional storage or use this as a small in field travel bag when I wanted a lighter weight option than my lowepro.

So the problems for me were, the hard laptop case seemed to me to pose a problem when needing to stuff the bag in small places and the upper personal section just didn't give nearly enough room. I thought the laptop section might be big enough for my laptop and 8 1/2x11 documents and perhaps even a slim hard drive or two but it proved to really only be able to hold the laptop. It would have been great at that. No laptop would have broken ever. Sadly when wanting the bag to double duty as a light weight kit bag I found myself realizing that the laptop hard case was unnecessary for that type of day jaunt and would be an uncomfortable waste of space.

So in the end. If your laptop is the top of your needs on your back and you need it to be safe. This is the bag for you, as long as you aren't also needing to bring an amazing amount else with you as well. Which seems weird. Are you traveling to the ends of the world to write an email or take a photo/make a video? If its the later you're going to need more gear and the laptop is probably safer at the hotel or campsite than in daily travel. Cool looking bag though!!!

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

The backpack is made of really durable material, it's comfortable to wear even with a bunch of weight, and I love how snug and secure all my camera gear is. It fits a lot of gear, currently have two camera bodies, four lenses, my rode microphone and my handle i use for video work in it, with plenty of room left over in the pockets for extra stuff and of course the laptop compartment. When I've got the pack completely full it is very comfortable to wear, I recently hiked close to 6 miles wearing this pack with all of that stuff in it and some more and the pack never got annoying or caused any stress on my body. It's also nice that it fits all of this, but still can be used as a carry on for an airplane.

A few slight concerns with the pack though. The padding in the camera compartment could be better, it's not the worst but it's definitely the thinnest padding of any camera case I've personally owned. It's strange that there is no sort of weather sealing or anything around where the camera stuff is, and I don't like that there is no form of divider in between the camera case and the upper storage compartment. Anything you put up top is sitting directly on the soft camera case itself, so be warned if you planned on putting anything heavy in the top. One solution, though, is that thankfully you can take the camera case out of the backpack, as it functions as it's own seperate carrying case with a handle and all. So, if you don't find it much trouble, you can remove that and have a massive storage area in the backpack, while carrying the camera stuff outside of the bag.

I guess it all just depends on what your purpose for the pack is. For what i use the pack for, it's perfect. But, if you're going on a strenuous trip, keep in mind the only heavy protection this bag provides is for the laptop. I'd be cautious about anything else.

This is an extremely rugged backpack. I am not a photographer, but an audio engineer. I find that it holds less gear than the smaller backpack it replaced. This backpack will not fit in the overhead of smaller planes when full.

All around a great pack but I had to pair down my kit to fit in this bag.

If you're looking for a pack to keep your gear (especially laptop) well protected, this is an amazing bag. If you're the kind of person that needs a separate pocket/compartment for the little stuff, you'll be disappointed. Overall, great pack. I didn't buy it to carry the day-to-day nik-naks. It protects my gear when I'm traveling or in the field, and does have some "catch-all" pockets that work just fine for my needs.

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

I was looking for a single backpack that would provide enough space for my photography gear and Laptop ease to access for travel and flexible. I have found that the S130 is great I carry my Cannon and 4 Lenses as well as a goPro kit regularly. I have not found myself in a position that I haven't had what I needed. I can get to my camera when I need to and you're not digging through other parts of a back pack. The pull out is wonderful for those times I am camping and only need my camera gear. I would Highly recumbent this Backpack for a daypack traveler or regular commuting Photographer. I can be picky about certain things and I do wish one of the pockets had a key clip. Often when I'm traveling I don't want keys in my pocket. Good Luck with yours.

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

This is a unique product. If I were going to Patagonia or the Outback that I had to take the laptop, this would be the bag for sure. If I needed to protect my hardware from a hostile environment, this would be the bag. The however is, the stiff nature of the protective pocket for the laptop is against your back as you wear the bag and this is just not comfortable for me. My travel is more urban in nature so the compromise was not warranted for me so I returned the bag. Build quality was really good. B&H customer service was very good.

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

I purchased this bag prior to a two week trip to London and Paris. The bag performed extremely well, although there are a few negatives. I'll start with the positive features.I carried this bag on a daily basis throughout London and Paris. It normally held my iPad in the clamshell, and my Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-270, Nikkor 50mm prime, Bower 8mm fisheye, GoPro & mount, extra batteries and miscellaneous cables. I often kept a light jacket in the upper portion of the backpack. The bag held up extremely well to the rainy weather and crowded conditions. The bag fits snugly under a standard airliner seat, though not in the overhead compartments. TSA had no issues with the bag. The hardshell case protects anything inside quite well and the padding helps to maintain comfort while wearing the pack. The two side pockets are large and their elastic bands are effective at securing contents. I commonly keep my iphone, power bricks, cables, and other incidental items in these pockets.Where the bag is lacking is in interior storage. The pack area has a 22 liter volume which is quite acceptable for a daypack. Easily 2/3 of that volume is used by the camera case. The camera case is removable and can be zipped closed separately from the pack, however the case is loose in the pack. Items placed in the upper part of the pack can easily slip behind the interior case and disappear. As the case is quite large the open space for inserting more gear is limited. The bag is also quite heavy on it's own weighing in at several pounds empty. Fully loaded I had it around 35 pounds. The shoulder straps were a bit uncomfortable with that much weight. The chest strap broke off (though not due to fault with the bag) and has proven quite difficult to reattach. As an amateur photographer who has a common need to carry my laptop as well as my camera gear, I find this bag to be quite useful. It's not something that I use every day, but when I have a need for both my camera and computer this bag fits my needs more than adequately.

            Good bag not much space...

            By 1234

            from Texas City Tx

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

I like the bag. It fits my laptop just fine and I never worry it will be damaged. Nor do I worry about camera damage anymore. It also comes with spacers if your laptop should be smaller in size to keep it from shifting. There are adjustable compartments for the camera as well. However, it is a bit deceiving in that the front is almost all camera storage and the top compartment is not separated from the bottom camera case. You actually have to remove the camera case from the top. So if you are storing cords for your laptop or chargers it will be sitting atop the camera case and you will have to remove all items at the top of the bag to get the camera case out. There are two small zipper compartments at the top, one inside and one on the outside of the bag and two side pouches. However this bag works okay enough for me and is light to carry when fully packed.

I love pelican products. This time they missed the mark when they didn't include a way to close the main compartment. There is no draw string cord or zipper only the flap and 2 buckles. I had to use another waterproof bag in order to protect my camera gear. The laptop part is spot in though. Perfect for planes.

Comments about Pelican ProGear S130 Sport Elite Laptop Backpack:

I bought this backpack to take on a trip to Hawaii with me. I do *not* check my primary camera, lenses or laptops.

Flew under the seat in front of me in this bag:
                  Canon 5D MK II
                  Canon 24-70 L
                  Canon 70-200 IS II
                  580 EX II
                  Cables, Batteries, Chargers
                  Macbook Pro 15''
                  iPad
                  Change of clothes

                  notes:
Getting your camera out of the bag is not a quick process.
There could be a little more support on the bottom - it is a soft material and your camera takes all the weight of anything on top.
