This is absolutely a GREAT combo of monopod and head. The problem is that it is not the standard head MVH500AH .. it was modified for this monopod and so with this monopod the head itself does not pan. The bottom of the monopod does the work instead. In the Manfrotto video for this new product they show the incorrect head that comes with this monopod. The only issue is that you can't use the head that comes with this monopod on anything else using it as a fluid head..the knob is missing with the modification. Too bad I had to return it.. it was awesome.. as I wanted something not dedicated to the monopod. I decided then to buy the same unmodified head MVH500AH and bought a separate monopod. I want to make sure to state that his unit is really nice although I did not keep it! If this is what you need or want, you won't be sorry if you buy this product. It worked very very nicely! Beautifully!

I'm rating it at a 2 because the MVH500AH Fluid Head is modified so that there is no pan axis which is why I purchased it. I understand that the pan axis is built into the monopod, but I had the hopes of using the head on a different pair of sticks. I guess Manfrotto wants me to purchase another kit which is disappointing. They continue to disappoint just as they did with the previous model.

The quality is great and what I expect from Manfrotto. It's just too bad that their not up front about the features they've subtracted. Please update the product description so that people don't waste their time and money on something they aren't expecting.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

The monopod does a great job at what it is advertised as. a solid and quality product that gives you production quality results. i have stuck it out my car window and held near the ground for pretty decent fluid shots when paired with an IS lens. I've also used it for quick run-and-gun situations. it has worked so well for me and wouldn't go anywhere without it.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Though this is a pricey monopod, Manfrotto makes great products and with this monopod I am able to get shots that I would have not been able to with a standard heavy tripod. Great monopod for smooth b-roll video movements.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This monopod is solid! Very stable and light. One thing that I really love about it is the height that it will get. This is definitely a tool that you can use all day long.

I was a little skeptical about the new head but so far there have been no problems at all.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I use this product for many wedding films and other personal projects. It is great because of its wonderful portability and sturdiness. It allows you to get above a crowd and even get down low, right where the action is. The fluid drag system is by far the best feature of this monopod allowing you to get those spectacular, smooth shots. It also has a sticking point to get perfect static shots. If you're looking for a decently priced, professional quality monopod, look no further!

I use my Manfrotto Monopod for Wedding videography and when I am shooting footage of The Philadelphia SOUL Arena Football Team. It has such a smooth flow with all of the mechanical features from raising and lowering the heights to panning and tilting for a great shot. I have nothing bad to say at all about this product and would suggest if you do not have one........well spend the little bit of money and get one. It Will Change Your Way.

This is a great, stable monopod for run & gun shoots. The only issue is that it is a bit of a beast. Its heavy. But if you want stability, it works.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This thing is great, simply great. I can move around quickly, adjust height, and get buttery smooth moves using the fluid head and ball pivot. On my first shoot, I noticed the ball joint at the bottom sticking or popping when moving from straight up and down to a side angle. After some internet searching, I realized I'm not alone in this, and found a lot of opinions, and few answers. Then I finally found a video with a Manfrotto rep talking about the "issue" (search Vimeo for "NAB 2013: Manfrotto Unveils New Fluid Head"). Manfrotto considers this a "feature," and I tried their solution of loosening the ball joint bracket allen screws, but then lost my fluid panning at the base of the monopod (due to the reduced tension at the ball joint). I re-tightened the allen screws, and applied some silicon spray (DO NOT use WD40), and BINGO! It's perfect now. love it. love it. love it.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Bought a $16 Monopod and used it for wedding shoot. Horrible! Every vibration you make, the air makes, the ground makes is absorbed by that cheap monopod and lets my 5D Canon take every shake. No joke, very bad investment because I tried everything with FCPX and Adobe CC Premiere (thank god for stabilization) but still had some skewing and shakiness left. Therefore I invested into a $[$]monopod, which is this. LOVE IT! the legs and the modification of the pan and tilt really makes a big difference. Not only is it smooth, but saves a lot of time in post work too. Stabilization isn't necessary! And for those who complain about modification, I don't see why you need to take out the head out of this monopod and place it on a tripod. Modification is made to improve the stability of this monopod. If you can afford a $[$]monopod for pro work, then buy a separate head for separate tripod/dolly/slider etc. I wouldn't bother taking out the head for any reason. In fact, I'm buying another monopod today for my wife, second shooter. I would definitely recommend this for Wedding Cinema. You need to run and gun and using a tripod for beauty shots during bridal prep will be annoying and aggravating. Having this Monopod will save you time, make you look pro and helps you work at ease. Order this and you will have peace of mind. I'm starting to use this 80% of the time for wedding shots. Even in Ceremony and Reception, especially tight spaces, I use this over tripods! Especially the head piece where you can just click the quick release plate makes it only quicker and easier. Surprisingly even safer than previous models!I would share my website for you all to see the results but I don't believe I'm allowed to post it here! The only complaint I have is the bottom being too tight, when I try to tilt the bottom back and forth slowly, it may jolt sometimes because of tightness. I can loosen up the ball to avoid any further jolts, but doing so would sacrifice the option of letting the monopod stand by itself! Worth the trade off if you are not lazy :) maybe I need to lubricate it. But this little complaint isn't worth sacrificing a star. Still deserves 5 star. And no, I'm not being endorsed for reviewing this product. I'm doing so because reviews have helped me and I would like to return this help for anyone out there. Therefore, if you do wedding cinema with DSLRs, don't even question it. Buy it. Buy the basics with quality before buying other toys like slider/dolly/steady cam etc. My friend has recommended me Benro product, I am the type who would rather pay a little extra bucks to get the full quality and with a company who have existed long enough to prove their loyalty, quality and value!Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

It simply does not work. I tested to new monopods. Each one has the same defect that comes unexpectly. Perhaps I tested two defective producst, they were bought new from an authorized distributer.
                                    Do the following.
Extend the monopod and move the head very gently and very slowly to make the most slow and tight horizontal panning for a shot.
You will surely find a "tic tic step by step small resistances" that ruins the movement. If the horizontal panning is a bit quicker, the resistance dissapears. The resistance is located at the fluid base which the whole monopods rotate around.
I tested the first one in Madrid and discovered immediately the defect. I asked for a replacement. Apparently, the wproblem was solved. I went to Panama for shooting and the problem came again.
I had to return the monopod.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I've used one of these monopods for years. They are great and allow me to create interesting and dynamic camera moves on very simple low budget shoots. The foot means that it can stand on it's own, but also that I can use it as I would a jib in certain situations. Basically I love it. The only thing I don't like is the head. It comes with an augmented 500 series head that has no pan, only tilt. This is generally okay on the monopod, but I'm often moving heads around and using them for different things, so a more standard head would be nice. I guess it keeps the cost down a bit, but I still immediately put a new 502 head on it.

It's a very good quality product. It pans smoothly and a fluid head performs really well. It extends really high and it's super portable. Overall a great addition to my other equipment.

I use this for capturing behind the scenes and outtakes. Really smooth and great monopod. The only thing I do not like about it is that the head is only exclusive to the monopod, so you can't remove the head and use it on a tripod. Other than that, it is a great product.

We are nature photographers/videographers and often need stable support in tight spaces. This Monopod provides that in a compact, very stable (although slightly heavy) package. The fluid pan and seperate fluid tilt mechanisms are smooth and easily support 10/11 lbs of camera and lens combination.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

It is much more smooth than my previous $16 monopod purchase. This guy is built well, can stand on its own (if you tighten the bolts enough) and the modification of the head is agreeable. I prefer it to be this way. There is no need to take out the head for me, I use the monopod 80% of the shoot during any occasions especially weddings!

I was able to raise my production value after purchasing this monopod! And I'm planning on buying one more for my wife. My only complaint is the ball fluid on the bottom, when tightened, I try to pan down not with the head but the foot and sometimes it jolts because it's too tight and in return shakes my camera a bit. It would be nice to be able to get a smooth shot without any jolts! Otherwise I still give it a 5 star :)
