This is absolutely a GREAT combo of monopod and head. The problem is that it is not the standard head MVH500AH .. it was modified for this monopod and so with this monopod the head itself does not pan. The bottom of the monopod does the work instead. In the Manfrotto video for this new product they show the incorrect head that comes with this monopod. The only issue is that you can't use the head that comes with this monopod on anything else using it as a fluid head..the knob is missing with the modification. Too bad I had to return it.. it was awesome.. as I wanted something not dedicated to the monopod. I decided then to buy the same unmodified head MVH500AH and bought a separate monopod. I want to make sure to state that his unit is really nice although I did not keep it! If this is what you need or want, you won't be sorry if you buy this product. It worked very very nicely! Beautifully!

I'm rating it at a 2 because the MVH500AH Fluid Head is modified so that there is no pan axis which is why I purchased it. I understand that the pan axis is built into the monopod, but I had the hopes of using the head on a different pair of sticks. I guess Manfrotto wants me to purchase another kit which is disappointing. They continue to disappoint just as they did with the previous model.

The quality is great and what I expect from Manfrotto. It's just too bad that their not up front about the features they've subtracted. Please update the product description so that people don't waste their time and money on something they aren't expecting.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

We film a lot of weddings each year and at receptions you just don't have room for large tripods. This monopod was definitely the answer, takes up less space, very smooth motion & easy to shoot a run.

Its great if you are shooting DSRL video in a tight spot but don't need to pan. The shots are ALWAYS RUINED and UNUSABLE if you pan. Clicking sticking and popping at ball joint at bottom. At this price and the Manfrotto name this is totally unacceptable . I have never been so frustrated and disappointed in a product. i am a professional videographer (especially weddings) and I will not chance shooting with this. Not worth the risk of loosing key shots. DO NOT BUY!! Manfrotto, get with the program and fix this product!!!

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

The MVM500A has far surpassed my expectations. If I could improve it at all it would be to add a lockout function on the pan or at least some way of controlling the drag similar to the tilting portion.

I was hesitant to spend this much money on a monopod, but I've used this model before and so finally I hit the buy button. If you're shooting video, this is the best tool in your arsenal. I use it 80% of the day when shooting weddings, concerts, and other events.

It's very tall, relatively lightweight, and I love the easy quick release plate.

I only wish it came with a bag.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Was disappointed with this monopod. I was hoping to use it in place of a traditional tri-pod. I wanted to use it to record myself while performing on stage but due to the swivel feature at the base of the monopod, it will not lock in place and therefore be prone to tilting on its own and falling down with camcorder attached. So I returned it back for a refund.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This monopod is probably the best video-monopod you can get. It is well made and super smooth. I really have no real complaints about this. It is a bit heavy so if you are running round, it could start to way down a tad, but its not a huge issue. And I do wish it came with a carry case. Again, not a huge issue. Other than those minor details, this is a fantastic product and worth every penny.

Everything is good except its ball. It always clicked. No way to achieve smooth pan. It's the problem of friction. Manfrotto needs to redesign the bottom fluid ball.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I really like this monopod! I used it on a video shoot the other day and I was impressed by its versatility. Okay, so it does have some quirks but I've been able to work around them so far. You definitely need to loosen the bottom piece so that it pans smoothly or when you're tilting the pole (rather than the head). If you don't do this it can jerk and pop when you're trying to perform nice, fluid movement. So be sure to bring the right size Allen wrench with you. Also, the arm is slightly in the way if you try to grab certain video cameras by their grip. This is something you will rarely have to worry about, especially if you have a remote for zooming. Also, it's really easy to remove the arm and even put it on the other side if you like. Lastly, the quick release can be a little tricky. It just doesn't always seem to pop on easily, but this may just be because it's new and needs a little breaking in. Otherwise, as stated previously, this is an excellent video monopod for the price!

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Fluid Aluminum Video Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I use this product with a GH2 and similar dslr style cameras. I prefer it over a tripod because it enables me to move much faster - particularly while shooting b-roll at various locations. I also use it shoot interviews - because it is able to stand alone - although I keep a hand at the ready to grab it just in case, but so far so good and it has been very solid and steady. The head is smooth for tilting up and down and the fluid mechanism at the base is very smooth for panning as well. Some complain that the bottom ball "sticks" - but it's not really meant to rock back and forth on - so the sticky issue is of no consequence to me.. I highly recommend this monopod for shooting video. It is a bit heavier than I though it would be, but it is very very solid and useful.

Very nice monopod. No complaints. The legs on the bottom add much more versatility and the monopod can even balance on them without assistance. The release plate is pretty cool too. You can take the camera right off instead of having to slide it through the head.

I bought the Benro monopod that has a tilting base too and on the first day of usage the tilting base plate got stuck and I sent it back and got the Manfrotto Monopod .
The monopod can stand autonomously without falling sideways which is a great plus if you are shooting with a B camera. The head is very high quality and I like the fact that it stretches up to 6.6' .

This is perfect for people who are doing DSLR film work.

Definitely easier to move around with in tight places while keeping it steady.

Okay so, it's probably WAY too early to actually write a review for a product as I've only had it for about a week and haven't even really used it yet but here it goes.
I like it. I mean, it's sturdy, it gets really tall, and it feels smooth. I have a 501 quick release plate and I needed a monopod that could fit that (not buying a new line of quick-release heads and base plates because that's insane.
So it's nice. I also bought a bag to carry it in as it doesn't come with one. It's pricey but it hasn't disintegrated yet so I have high hopes.

I needed something for a quinceanera I shot over last weekend that was light enough to move around but stable and this solved the problem. Worked great and the client was happy. Next on my list is a Glidecam!
