This is absolutely a GREAT combo of monopod and head. The problem is that it is not the standard head MVH500AH .. it was modified for this monopod and so with this monopod the head itself does not pan. The bottom of the monopod does the work instead. In the Manfrotto video for this new product they show the incorrect head that comes with this monopod. The only issue is that you can't use the head that comes with this monopod on anything else using it as a fluid head..the knob is missing with the modification. Too bad I had to return it.. it was awesome.. as I wanted something not dedicated to the monopod. I decided then to buy the same unmodified head MVH500AH and bought a separate monopod. I want to make sure to state that his unit is really nice although I did not keep it! If this is what you need or want, you won't be sorry if you buy this product. It worked very very nicely! Beautifully!

I'm rating it at a 2 because the MVH500AH Fluid Head is modified so that there is no pan axis which is why I purchased it. I understand that the pan axis is built into the monopod, but I had the hopes of using the head on a different pair of sticks. I guess Manfrotto wants me to purchase another kit which is disappointing. They continue to disappoint just as they did with the previous model.

The quality is great and what I expect from Manfrotto. It's just too bad that their not up front about the features they've subtracted. Please update the product description so that people don't waste their time and money on something they aren't expecting.

This changes everything

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I hate using tripods, I only use them for a video interview shoot or something similar. I always prefer handheld filming, but with longer focal lengths, I get shaky footage. This monopod has been an absolute game changer for me. Highly recommended!

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I am really excited to use this Monopod. I am in the process of changing my shooting style to a more human look and the Monopod seems perfect for that. It also allows you to stand on narrow benches and get angles that were not possible with a tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I mainly use this excellent tool for weddings and small free lance videography gigs. I only recently bought it but have used it several times already and once you get used to panning at the base of the monopod it is a very useful addition to your equipment list. Also a plus for me is the detachable fluid head that I can now use for my slider and other mounted equipment. Decent price and easy to get good at.

Great BUT head is Soooo Heavy

      By VegasTechGeek

      from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

For photos. This tripod allows adjustment of the folding feet-when tightened, I was able to shoot night shots on the Las Vegas strip with blur ONLY where intended while my focus was dead on. No problems with shake, shudder or wobble. But for photos, you will need to work out to heft this monopod around unless you change out the head.
For video it is absolutely the best monopod Onhave ever used. The weight of the head helps to make the pan and tilt moves very smooth when using my GH4 with Wallimex full rig, ie hdmi monitor, rode mic, external battery, follow focus and rods with full hood. In that configuration, I am still able to move the head on the plate to balance the rig on the monopod allowing me a minimum of force to hold the shot. I can also do 10-25 degree
Pan moves slowly using the feet on this monopod as spring support.
Overall I would have to say it's a better Video monopod than photo monopod. For photo only I would prefer something much lighter.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

I have two of these. The old one and the newer one with the red housing on the bottom pan-drag unit. They are sturdy. The head is decent for DSLRs and EX1R. The only complaint that lost it a star is that you will eventually get the "stuttering pan" effect during slow pans. That is easily fixed with a shot of silicone spray, but obviously that is not how it should be. Still, I haven't found anything that compares, so I can't complain too much. But if they do fix it, I guess I'll own three.

The best! make sure to use a little wd40 on the ball joint and you're good to go. Also, i'm pretty sure my cine rig exceeds the weight limit so don't take it too seriously. Awesome, solid monopod.

Great addition to a video kit

        By Monopodder

        from Massachusetts

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This feet on this monopod are a helpful addition for any videographer on the go. Though the monopod will stand on its own, it's not strong enough to hold much weight. Those feet will, however, relieve some pressure for the videographer who may be standing in place for a while. It's well-built, with a smooth tilt in the head, and a smooth pan built into a unique joint near the feet.

I use it in documentary films. It's cool but it is not indispensable. it is very similar to other monopods i don't think it is much better. The design is great, very fluid except when I try to use it in a simmilar to a slider, I mean dolly like movements.
            Expensive.

I love this Monopod! I have been using it for video production for a few months now and will always carry one of these guys with me. This monopod is very handy for quickly grabbing steady shots, including pan/tilt shots, while on the run. It makes setting up and tearing down a breeze!I don't really have anything negative to say about this monopod as I have yet to have a bad experience with it or wish that it could do more.

Far and away the best piece of stabilization equipment in my arsenal. Great for DSLR run-n-gun b-roll shooting. This monopod is lightweight, easy-to-use and incredibly versatile. The feet make this unit very sturdy for fixed shots. While the head tilts, the monopod leg itself swivels on a ball-joint for panning type camera motion, and the tension on the joint is easily adjustable with a hex wrench. With some work, you can simulate jib arm shots and a range of other motion to enhance production value. Simply outstanding!
