There has been much documentation about the image quality, so I don't think I need to add more to that. It's superb. Images are crisp and clear. I love the Ricoh color signature. To me, it's more natural and film-like, definitely less "digital" looking. Forget the megapixel war. This camera has more sharpness and resolution than 95% of people need. I'm making 30" prints that look fantastic.

The GR has been very well thought out. When I first saw it, I thought the +/- and "play" buttons on the right side of the camera would be a disaster. I thought my thumb would constanly touch/activate them as I held it. I had flashbacks to the poor Q button placment on the X-Pro1 that I was always accidentally hitting. NOT the case with the GR. I hold the camera in my hand all day while shooting in the streets. The buttons are placed perfectly. The grippy rubber like material they put on the front wraps around the back and it's amazing!!! It keeps your thumb in place and the camera perfectly balanced in your hand. The power button is positioned at just the right spot. You can flick it on with your index finger just as you see something you want to shoot. The GR offers true one handed operation. It's controls and layout to me are the best of any camera I have ever owned.

The GR is fully customizable and there are a lot of menus to go through. It takes some time if you're not used to the system to get the hang of things. This isn't the kind of camera you grab and go out of the box without familiarizing yourself with it and the manual. You will need to practice. Once you get eveything set, it's a dream.

Snap focus has to be my absolute favorite feature. Adjust your shutter speed and aperture for light conditions, give a full press and you have a photo with fantastic depth of field. I can be taking one photo, see something else I want to shoot and turn and shoot quickly with snap focus. A dream! Autofocus is blazingly fast in daylight (not so fast in the dark, or dimly lit rooms). I have never missed a shot or had a shot out of focus with this camera so far. Just amazing.

I've seen some griping about it's quality at 3200 and above. We've become spoiled in the digital age - go shoot a roll of 3200 film and see how that works out for you in comparison!

To have this level of quality in such a small size is spectacular. The price point is perfect too. I thought about the Nikon Coolpix A, but the GR's ergonomics and responsiveness in good light blow the Coolpix A away.

My one gripe - no external charger. I hate that. I hate having to plug a camera into the wall to charge the battery. I would have gladly paid a little extra for this to have it included and not have to buy it separately. Battery life also isn't the best, but it's a tradeoff for a camera you can slide into your back pocket. I'm getting roughluy 300 shots per charge.

If you enjoy the 28mm field of view, you can't go wrong with this camera.

Read below for my problems with Ricoh. I LOVE THIS CAMERA BUT I CANNOT DEAL WITH THIS AGAIN.

Terrible customer service, sent camera in for servicing for a dust issue and they sent it back with still dust in the sensor. I send it back again because of this and they send me a notice saying it is working in full operational condition and did not repair the issue. I even sent it with a thumb drive of the image showing the dust spots in the sensor. I doubt they even looked at it. I now have a expensive brick sitting on my desk (did I forget to say I am a freelance working photographer?) that I can't even sell now.

This is a fixed focal length camera and so there is no zoom.

If you like the pictures you click with your phone, and want something that can improve the quality of photos, this is the camera for you. It is lightweight and easy to use, with buttons easily operated with single hand.

I have a DSLR, but I tend to use my phone more often for photos. The battery life on the phone is a problem, and I want to keep the calling functionality on the phone alive. This camera is just the right tool for me.

Comments about Ricoh GR Digital Camera:

If you've ever used the Olympus XA/XA2 cameras, you know what simple, compact, sharp cameras can do. Now take that amazing quality and cram it into a similarly-sized package but with an APS-C sensor, and you have the Ricoh GR. This camera is fast, quiet, easy to use, has snap-focus, film/developer emulation -- think of it as having nearly as many features as a Fuji X100s, but in a package that fits in your front pocket. The lens isn't super-fast, but you can still achieve decent subject isolation with some practice. The startup time is basically a blink, you can view pics without turning the lens on, the screen is bright and usable, and the menu system is full-featured, yet intuitive. Battery lasts a good long time, too. Much better than my X Pro. This is a great take-anywhere camera, or even a backup camera for pros.

Comments about Ricoh GR Digital Camera:

Bought in mid May from B&H. By mid June, it was dead (five days outside the return window and coincidently on the day Ricoh announced the successor). It's a wonderful little street camera, but the reliability issue has me wondering if I'd ever buy another camera from Rioch. I was in the middle of street shooting in Los Angeles when the camera just inexplicably died. I didn't drop it, get it wet, etc. I just thought it was a dead battery but putting it on a charge didn't revive the camera.

Apart from that, it's a good little camera. Low profile, good image quality. Would be nice if they imroved the LCD a little. Battery life is also pretty poor. Controls are easy to manipulate.

Looks like I will be sending this into Ricoh's repair contractor.

I've used this for taking photos of buildings so far. It captures a lot of detail and even though I can't zoom, when I close in on the photos, I can see things such as weep holes in windows multiple floors above me. I also used this at a wedding and got wonderful shots of people indoors. The flash can be a bit harsh up close, but overall, it's been good.

Small, with great IQ. Personally I'd want a longer lens, but for my son, who just loves a wide angle, this is the ideal hiking camera. He gets the big sensor in a tiny body, and it does video. I took a few test shots and everything looked very good.

Comments about Ricoh GR Digital Camera:

Absolute beginner develop's more control its interesting camera because it takes incrediblely rich picture without having a working knowledge of exposure technique, but I found myself developing a basic understanding of how various ratios in exposure combinations versus ISO setting yielded results that I'd never experienced with straight point and shoot cameras. And thought he fixed lens seemed at first like a draw back I found that it actually helped me develop a different approach to composing images. And so far when I've edited images although I may not have been able zoom in when taking the original picture the amount you can enlarge an image without losing quality is pretty great.

This camera is not for those who aren't already photo savvy. It's easy to use and has lots of photog friendly features. It's small enough to carry in my pocket and it's lightweight makes it perfect for pocket carry. This is the street photographers point and shoot. The images are razor sharp and very pleasing. In the higher ISO's it does tend to get a bit grainy, but still useable up 3600 ISO. I highly recommend this camera.

Comments about Ricoh GR Digital Camera:

This is the best all in one, carry around with you, street, candid, travel camera on the market. Every aspect of this camera just makes sense and works for you. Performance is exceptional. Fantastic sensor. Fantastic lens. Design is likewise exceptional. It's no so much a matter of you wanting to carry it around all the time, rather, you don't NOT want to. Oh, and a wonderful macro capability!

Comments about Ricoh GR Digital Camera:

I have been photographing since 1958! I have used many cameras in that time. This is one of the best, and probably is the best for street photography.

The lens is very sharp, even into the far corners. The sensor is great too.

I bought a second one. That's how much I like it.

This is an amazing camera--especially for street photography. Light and small yet packs a C-MOS sensor (same as in the Nikon d700 now gathering dust in my closet. I can get right up close, totally silent, shoot and be gone in a flash. It can be set for 28, 35 or 40 mm lens and you can preset the focus for faster shooting without auto focus. Nice sharp images that will amaze you.
