Comments about Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone:

Awesome product and easy to use. I think that there is a MASSIVE difference between stock audio and this device. I should have upgraded to the model with the storage capacity internal. I could have used that in many different ways... Overall excellent product, it mounts nicely and the cord stays tucked away well.Big fan

I read the reviews on the Rode then this Shure VP83 and I felt much better buying this one. I'm sure glad I did. It works FANTASTIC. If you get it, you won't be sorry. No battery-dept door opening problem like the Rode and this Shure takes a AA battery.....easy. Great quality.

I was between the Rode video mic pro and the Sennh MKE400, I tested both and then I saw this Shure and gave it a try. It has a much better build quality than the others, a great rycote shock mount and is very very sensitive. The levels on my GH3 are always at 1 with it. It also has a LED to warn you about battery life and an extra +20db setting. Great microphone for the price. delivering great audio.

I picked this mic for $[*] after a $[*] rebate at B&H.It works great with my Canon 5d mark III and with my vixia hf G30. It is well built, uses one double A battery, the vibration mount is well designed and the +20db allows me to record clear sound directly in to the camera.

So far, this microphone has been a great companion to my Canon t3i. I have used both the LensHopper and the Rode VideoMic Pro, and I have to say that both of them have the same audio quality. But the LensHopper is stronger and will not fall from its shock mount. Plus, you can use a single battery for weeks. The only downsides are that you can't monitor your audio levels (no headphone plugin) or your battery life until it is drained, but for the price you can't complain about that.

I returned a rode mic video pro which was extremely problematic to remove and replace the battery cover and also felt flimsy and rubber banded on basically. This is a sure fire upgrade from that as this is a sturdier more solid mic which also fictions on a cheaper battery. I have only used it once so far but it's far superior . I'm using it for a mark iii and solid and sturdy. Sound is great and gives you several options x

Will be used with the Nikon D800, I'm just starting with video, I'm mainly a still photographer. When set at the proper gain I can eliminate background, hissing noise. I also use it off the camera near the subjet to help eliminate camera noise. I purchased the Shure mic, because the company has been around a long time. Thanks B&H for fast shipping.

I'm using the VP83 on a Panasonic GH3 and it's a big improvement over the built-in mic as expected. The Shure brand goes way back. They know what they're doing and this little shotgun mic has not disappointed me. Now it isn't quite as good as a full size shotgun mic but it does a really nice job for its compact size. Only caveat is remember to switch it on before starting to film since it isn't phantom powered.

Used on a Canon 60D using the +20db switch and adjusting the volume manually in camera. The mic picked up voices excellently while keeping the background noise where it needs to be - in the background. Overall great sounding mic when placed closer to the person being filmed, don't have any complaints thus far. Major kudos to B&H for free shipping during the holidays!!!!

Comments about Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone:

In limited use thus far with my Panasonic X920 camcorder this mic performed very well and significantly outperformed the built-in mic which on the X920 is itself not that bad. I considered a Rode VideoMic Pro but went with this model because I read it had a sturdier shock mount and a robust coiled cable. It also uses a single AA battery as opposed to a 9V on the Rode which made more sense for me. I was worried about the mic showing in video taken with my X920 d/t the forward placement of the cold shoe but it was clear of the lens' field of view even with an accessory 0.8X wide angle adapter. This mic has a gain adjustment dial which can be set to -10, 0 and +20dB and a low cut filter which has performed well in eliminating background noise. Overall the mic is well constructed and performs as advertised. A bit pricey but in the range of its Rode equivalent. I am happy with the purchase.

This is an amazing mic for the cost. What attracted me to this more than the Rode VMP is the sturdy rycote suspensions instead of the rubber bands used by Rode. In terms of audio quality it's a great step up from the internal mic on my t3i. People recommend to lower the input gain on the internal mic to one notch above 0 and enable the +20db gain on the mic itself to reduce the hiss on the internal preamps of the cameras. It does work but I would even recommend just leaving it at 0db because +20db will tend to make your audio over modulated and become distorted especially if the subject talking is extremely close. In all, this was a great purchase and highly recommend it.

I have used this microphone only a few times since I was given it as a gift (but I did ask for it specifically). I have used it on my Pentax DSLR and there's a little static when there's silence, but when recording on the computer there is practically silence when there is no sound. This means that the microphone has almost no static itself. I think the only thing I don't like about this microphone is that the switch goes right up to "On" instead of the low pass filter (the little line between) but other than that it works very well. I like the tripod screw on the bottom, the aluminum body, the single AA battery use, and the plastic holder.
