Yes, the focus can be slow in dim light. Yes, for an XE camera the lens is somewhat large.

But let's get real for a minute. It weighs and is about as big as a Canon 24-105 L, cost 40% less than the 24-105 and is optically better. No one calls the Canon 24-105 a big lens, do they? It's also faster than Canon's cheapo 75-300mm too.

Like all systems and lenses, there are some compromises made. Fuji kept the price extremely reasonable and the quality, especially for the money, extremely high.

Remember, the lens is equivalent to an 84-305mm lens. Hello, it's small for a 305mm lens!! Maybe we've been spoiled by the 18-55mm.

If the whole XE series and this lens focused a bit faster and price was the same, it would be exceptional. As it is it is merely wonderful. And should firmware upgrades make it focus better, then it's a 5 star for sure.

See attached images. Compare that to any lens at the equivalent of 300mm (or even 200mm) which costs 3x as much and is 2x-3x as large.

Comments about Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens:

This zoom delivers good optical quality for the price. It is a little bit heavy comparing to the weight of the X-T1 body, but nothing to be compared with what would weight the same in full frame. The stabilization works great.

Comments about Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens:

Another great Fujinon lens. Very sharp, great Bokeh. Can almost double as a macro lens due to close focus distance at 200mm. I found the autofocus to be a little "hesitant" in certain situations, particularly in scenes with lack of contrast between elements. Focus "peaking" helps in this circumstance. Would not hesitate to purchase again.

Comments about Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens:

With this lens now I can leave the heavy DSLR at home and only carry my X-T1 with the 18-55 and this one. I use it for a wide range of situations, from events to portraits and sports, it always performed very well, indoor and outdoor. Very sharp lens with good color rendering, minimal distorsion, and the OIS is very effective. The zoom ring is very stiff, but it seems to be getting a little better after few weeks of not so heavy use. built quality is very good. Overall I am very pleased with this lens, it is a terrific value.

Comments about Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens:

Tack sharp, compact & great focal length (80-300m), i would compare it to my Canon 70-200mm f/4L + 1.4x Converter for sharpness & speed.

I actually think the OIS (Image Stabilisation) on the Fuji, is (dare i say) better than the Canon!!! there it is i have said it!!

I was considering the 18-135mm however i want the extra reach, and i have absolutely zero regrets, this lens is awesome for the price/size/weight! it really justifies my shift from my Canon 5D Mk3 & 70-200mm f/2.8 Heavyweight!

I can't speak highly enough, and it also focuses well in low light if you know how to use your camera ;)

Changed from a DSLR to a Fuji mirrorless camera thus needed new X-mount telephoto lens. So far I am pleased with the automatic focus and the quality of my images. I am especially pleased with the size and weight of this lens as I was tired of the larger DSLR camera and very heavy telephoto lens I formally used.

I bought this for a trip to France with the Fugi X-T1. I used it sparingly as I was close to most of my subjects on this trip, so used the 18-55mm. But, I was impressed with the shots I did use it for.

About the same as my 70-300 4,5-5,6 Nikon vr2, for about the same price, a little lighter.

Nikon will provide better bokeh however as the far end (5,6 f-stop vs 7,2 for fuji, 35mm eq)

Not for sport or aviation or bird photogrphy, great for landscape closed down

Another stellar Fujifilm lens! I was expecting the sharpness to diminish as the lens is zoomed out to 200, but it holds up quite well and the stabilization really works where you need it at the long end. Compared to most of the lens line-up this lens is large and heavy, but getting that 300mm eqivalent is well worth the bulk.

Comments about Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens:

Wanted a bit of reach with my XE-1 and after reading many positive reviews, I pulled the trigger. I am pleased at the relative speed of AF and the bokeh in certain situations. Looking forward to making some portraits with this lens.

A bit big but still ok on an X-T1. Sharpness is better than I expected. HIgly recomended if your looking for a tele lens for your X system.

Supposed to be a temporary lens, but...

It isn't going anywhere! In man effort to complete my transition from Nikon to Fuji, I need a zoom that covers the 70-200 range. I picked this one up to fill the need until the 50-140 ships later this year. Now that I have it, I don't plan to get rid of it. It'll undoubtedly take up permanent residence on my X-E1 while my X-T1 shoulders most of the load. I'll still get the fast zoom when it comes out because I need the reach coupled with speed, but the quality image files the 55-200 produces on both bodies definitely does not deliver what one typically associates with a variable aperture zoom. Sharp from end to end and at any aperture, and fast focusing on the T1, this lens is easily worth much more than the asking price. It's a downright steal when compared to Nikon offerings (as have been all Fuji's XF lenses so far). It isn't going anywhere! After 31 years shooting Nikon, Fuji has made the transition easy and worry free! Highly recommended! After 31 years shooting Nikon, Fuji has made the transition easy and worry free! Highly recommended!!
