Bought this camera primarily for it's abilities with X-Sync and the speed of the mechanical shutter. I shoot lots of skateboarding and other fast moving subject matter, which having the option of shooting a shutter speed of 1/8000 is great. Also, using Pocket Wizards and manual external flashes, I can use a shutter speed of 1/320 with flash filling the entire frame, as well as being able to hyper-sync at higher shutter speeds.

The camera itself has a few "consumer" features, but they are so small compared to the benefits of the camera that I have already overlooked them. The two main problems here for me were: lack of built in EVF (solvable with VF-4 EVF Accessory), and if exposure is +/- 3 stops from a perfect exposure of "0", the camera will "auto-expose" the live view before snapping your shot (the actual image after shutter fires is not auto exposed) so just look at the light meter, not the live view... Like I said they are such small issues, I have been able to look past them.

Aside from a fast/solid mechanical shutter and the fast X-Sync capabilites, the camera also has great built in features such as focus-peaking, programmable DPI for JPEGS, and customizable color profiles.

Photo quality is amazing for such a small, inexpensive camera. Video quality is kind of junk (I didn't buy it for video), but the 5-axis in-camera image stabilization is truly AMAZING.

The camera feels durable and fits well in the hand; not too big, not too small.

I prefer the size-compromises of the EP-L5 to this camera. If size is the issue then you might as well just get an OM-D.

Two negatives:
The build and design quality isn't as nice as other Olympus Micro 4/3 cameras
Its too big for a small camera and too cramped professional camera. The flash kept popping up every time you graze the open button.

Big positives:
Its every bit the OM-D in terms of imaging and the 5 axis stabilization is a key reason to love this system.

Olympus makes some of the absolute best equipment from every criteria. They have better cameras in this system. The much smaller e-PL5 and the OM-Ds

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

The E-P5 is really solid. It feels like a camera should feel. So far we have used the photos on a family vacation, where it got a lot of use. The two control wheels are great. They really make a huge difference when compared to cameras where you have to use the menu to change F stops and shutter speed. The rear screen is good. The VF 4 viewfinder is fantastic. Menu system is hard to learn, but once things are set, the Super Control Panel is a great feature.

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

Bought this camera as a more capable travel camera given that Nikon D7000 is really to heavy to take everywhere and photos coming out of the phone were good, but technically inadequate. With EP-5, surprises keep on coming. Image quality and sharpness (With the middle-of-the road M.Zuiko 14-42mm EZ lens) are surprisingly good and comparable with D7000 used with a third-party lens. Art filters and automated functions deliver convenience of quick shooting, built-in IS and great processing of high ISO images extend the utility range to a broad range of situations. Recently used Art filters mode for a Halloween shoot to instantly get impact photos. While not a DSLR replacement, this camera is definitely competitive to old Olympus DSLRs and likely at par with entry level DSLR cameras from "the usual suspects". Image quality and capability comes close to what I can produce from D7000 and what I have seen done with Canon 7D and Canon Rebel cameras.Truly amazing, compact and capable camera, would definitely recommend as a travel/street/family event photography tool.

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

This camera fits my needs very well. Compact and pocketable when I need it to be, or add an EVF and a few lenses and it fits the bill as a compact DSLR alternative. Throw it in iAuto for busy times for a high quality point and shoot w/ touch screen for selective focusing. Or spin it to P/A/S/M and it is a snap to control with the dual purpose twin dial controls. Focus peaking great when using manual mode or manual focus lenses.

Quite flexible and I am constantly astounded by the consistency of the excellent photo output. A lot of great choices out there, but this one has met or exceeded my every need.

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

I'm an experienced and enthusiastic amateur. I've used lots of systems over the years from medium format film though FF DSLRs and now onto micro four-thirds (u43). I own or have owned four u43 cameras - the Panasonic GF1, the Olympus E-PL5 and E-M5 and now the Olympus E-P5. In many ways, the E-P5 is the best of them all. It's small enough to be compact, but big enough and with sufficient controls to be a natural tool for serious photo work. The looks, feel and operation are sublime with the camera doing exactly what it should do and with the minimum of fuss. IQ is superb - plenty good enough for all but those who do advertising billboards or very large landscape prints; and unless you're into sports, the AF and overall camera operation will exceed your expectations.

Downsides? - the lack of an in-built EVF will bother some, but attach the VF-4 and you'll be rewarded with a view bigger than most FF DSLRs; the camera isn't weather sealed - that may bother some; and finally, the in-built flash is puny - even for fill-in flash. For me, these are minor grumbles that don't detract from the overall ownership experience or ability to capture some great images.

This camera goes everywhere with me in a small back with 4 lenses and a small flash - and that's why I use u43 and not a 5dii anymore!

I have different cameras and I bought this one and I love it. Camera is just excellent. I like everything about it.
Better and nicer than famous E-M5 in all dimenitions.

        Have no complains at all.

Very easy to use, takes 5 minutes to understand dual-control and it is working just great.
        1/8000sec.
Battery is ok for hundreds of shoots. I did number of sessions outdoor and never had a battery issue. Same for video shooting.
Large LCD, small size. Best IS...

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

The choices were between GX7 and E-P5; something compact for use to photograph the kind of general scenes when walking about or travel. It has to be small and light with high grade lens and sensor capacity – both have to be of high optical quality as you never know when you might come across something that makes your break to fine art or stock; no point in limiting the commercial viability of an image because of a quality compromise.

Noise is prominent from ISO 400 and higher, IBIS function not as hype, not as intuitive toggles and dials, average battery life.

Comments about E-P5 PEN Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I gave my Canon DSLR & lenses to a daughter some time ago and bought a new Panasonic G3. My motivations were small size, less weight, and more discreet. When Olympus switched to the new Sony sensor, I moved on to the Olympus PL5. The sensor was a huge improvement, and the JPEG's out of the camera were impressive. I discovered that I really enjoyed shooting using the rear screen, especially one that folded out. However, after about six months, I decided that having 5 axis IS was worth an upgrade. Sold the PL5 and have now had the P5 for a couple weeks. I have not had so much fun using a camera since my film days with a Pentax Spotmatix F. The camera is heavier than the PL5, but the weight feels just right. The 5 axis IS is better than I ever hoped for. The controls are all in the right places, and the 2x2 control system makes changes effortless. This is a very well thought out camera. Others have complained that the flash is too easy to pop up, and I suspect that is true. I have shot several hundred photos, and the flashed has popped up unexpectedly twice. Most of the negative comments about this camera have to do with the lack of a built in EVF. If that is important to you, buy a different camera. There are several to choose from. If that is not an issue with you, you cannot do better than this camera. Unless there is a major advancement in sensor technology, I plan to have this camera for a long time.

I like this camera both the looks and the handling. Image quality coming from the EP-5 equals the OM-D image quality and the added features makes this a good upgrade from the OM-D model.
Very fast shutter speed, rear screen has improved so has battery life lots of other improvements. If your looking for good M43 give this a try.
              I recommend getting the EVF-4
