There are a number of things that I love about this camera. First is the small size, there's certain activities I want to photograph when a small point and shoot form is the best. I also find the new tilt screen to be very handy for low or high angle shots. The images produced are super sharp, some vignetting is visible but its easily correctable in software. The overall color production is very pleasing as well, producing neutral colors that serve me well. The option for showing a level guide in the display is cool too.

There are of course a few things that bug me. The most glaring is the power on/off button. You can quickly turn the camera on, but to get it to power you have to carefully press down perfectly vertically. So about ¾ of the time it doesn't work for my stubby fingers. As I tend to use this camera while engaging in active shooting situations this is a bigger pain for me than for most folks. This 'feature' is helpful I'm sure for those times when you mistake the power off button for the shutter (potentially turning off the camera when you thought you were using the shutter button).

Another small complaint is in regards to the on-screen graphics that 'explain' each mode selected when you turn the shooting mode dial. They can be easily turned off by slightly depressing the shutter, but after awhile even that is annoying. (perhaps this 'feature' can be shut off and I haven't figured it out yet. )

The screen is easy to scratch up, so be careful. Given the rest of the camera is so robust it's a bit of a surprise that some tougher material isn't used. I may invest in one of those stick-on screen protectors that people get for the cell phones and things soon.

Although its not Sony's fault its probably worth mentioning that if you use Adobe Lightroom 4 you're out of luck in using this camera in RAW mode. I was able to update my Photoshop CS5 ACR to accommodate the camera, but there was no upgrade available for LR4. I then downloaded Lightroom 5 and it worked fine. No big deal, but I do hate getting a new camera then find myself having to shell out more bucks for software upgrades because older versions are no longer supported.

The number one question people would likely have about this camera is whether you can use it to replace your DSLR. No, but if I have to forgo the weight, size and intimidation factor of a DSLR this camera is a great choice.

The sensor is fabulous, image quality is fabulous, build quality is great, etc.

I have a few bones to pick, though.

1). It doesn't come supplied with an external charger. You have to either buy a separate charger (which I did), or plug the supplied power cord into the camera itself and charge the batter that way, which means for the duration of the charge cycle, you don't get to use the camera. For a compact camera at this price point, it's ridiculous they didn't include a proper external charger.

2. It's not a super intuitive camera to use. For the sake of comparison, while the Panasonic LX7 suffers from small sensor syndrome, it's an absolute joy to use. I didn't need a manual to figure out how to use it. The buttons are in the right place. It easy to change settings quickly. The Sony is another story. I ended up dropping 10 bucks on a 3rd party user's guide to learn how to use it since the Sony manual was a little annoying.

3. There's no dedicated AEL/AFL button, and the only button you can customize it to is the center button. It's not intuitive.

4. You can't program the ? button to do anything useful as far as I can tell. It's a complete waste of a button.

5. In AF-S, you can't reset the AF point back to the center without without manually doing it. It's annoying.

6. $449 bucks for the optional EVF? Insane! On Sony's website, I see one thing that says they dropped the price but when you click through to order, it shows the original price.

In truth, I'm slightly frustrated with the camera and in all honesty, I haven't really shot enough with it to give it a fair assessment. I find myself reaching for the LX-7 on my way out the door as my everyday shooter, but maybe because it's less than half the price so I won't feel quite as bad if I accidentally drop it and it's far easier to use. Maybe once I get a protective case for the RX100 and take it out of the house more, I'll get used to it.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I bought this because I was tired of carrying my Cannon T5I on international trips. Great little camera which I can carry on my belt freeing my hand to handle other bags. Pictures are clear as my Cannon. It is finally nice that compact point and shoot camera manufacturer gives you the same result and flexibility as a full DSLR .

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

This is a quality camera. I was on the fence about buying a Sony since I have always owned Canons, but am very happy I bought this one. It was a lot more expensive than I usually spend, but it was time for me to move up to stellar images! I am still learning how to use all the features. The manufacturers booklet included is very thin and gives little information. Their online manual in a PDF is larger but not comprehensive enough and too many pages to print out. I recently bought an aftermarket book written by a photographer to learn how to use this camera.

I like the WiFi option AFTER I figured out how to set it all up. I have both an iPad and a PC. If you are not technically savvy, you will have difficulty getting your devices to recognize the Sony. The iPad was easier because you use an App, but the PC setup was very vague. I finally found something online that told you need to register the camera as a device on your PC. Once that was recognized, it works well and transfers pretty quickly even with my slow internet.

Another reason I bought this camera was to shoot and learn how to use RAW files. I was disappointed that Photoshop cannot work with the Sony RAW files directly. I finally saw a very simple paragraph in one of the manuals that said you needed to download the converter software from the Sony site. Once done, you can then see and edit the files within that software, and export to other formats, but still cannot use the RAW format in Photoshop.

I do not like that you have to charge the battery within the camera. So, I purchased the external charger accessory kit with extra battery which means you can charge one battery while using the camera with another.

The camera is a bit heavy and awkward to hold, since I am used to a point and shoot. I am sure I will get used to it eventually, but the addition of the optional Sony Jacket Case give a better grip.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I just purchased this camera and spent two weeks using it on a two week trip to France. I used the camera in a variety of situations and found that it took consistently great sharp photos. I mainly used the automated photo settings but it was also nice to have all the various options available to set as I needed it. Video was also very sharp.

The only concerns / issues I had with the camera were with the flash and gripping the camera. The flash placement makes it easily to accidently hold it down. The flash can get stuck coming out and you have to adjust it to ensure it correctly pops up. The case is very slippery and can come out of your hands easily. I highly recommend adding in the grip and also screen protector for this reason.

Overall and excellent camera that takes great pictures. Multiple other travelers on my tour noticed the camera and the pictures it was taking and asked me about it.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I own 2 full-frame Canon DSLR cameras, so I wanted a nice point-n-shoot camera that would essentially take pictures without much input from the user, but yet still have advanced options if I wanted to think. This camera does a horrible job as a point-n-shoot-- in broad daylight it defaults to a slow shutter speed (1/30) for no reason. In other situations, the camera will only choose an ISO of 160 even while on auto-ISO, and again shutter speed gets sacrificed. Needless to say, not many pictures end up being keepers, they are just a blurry mess. Yes, I can outwit the camera, but that was not the point in purchasing it.Also irritating, the camera did not come with a charger. To charge this camera one must plug it in with the battery inside of it or else spend more $ to get a separate charger.I really wish I had returned this camera for something with fewer bells and whistles that could handle taking pictures on auto.

What I really like is that such a small camera can take such fantastic photos. It has the capability of doing so much. The big viewing screen is great and very clear. You can actually see what you have. Once a person finishes learning how to do many of the other options besides the auto modes, they will really have quality photo capability all the time. Sometimes, it just isn't convenient to carry a large DSLR. Love it.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

This cybershot rx100 ii is the best point and shoot camera i have ever had. The first pictures it took right after it was charged were so good. I couldn't believe the difference from my old camera. Which I thought took great pictures.
My favorite added feature is the wifi connection. I can now send pictures to my ipad.
You do need to read the manual well and play around with the controls to get to know the camera. But when you do you'll be taking pictures like a pro.
I was worried about a camera that needed to be charged but it holds the charge well. I've had the camera about a week and haven't needed to charge it again yet.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

Camera arrived and produces as promised. Truly a great compact series from Sony. I just wish the new III had the longer lens reach this II has along with all the cool new features of the III, but I needed the reach so I bought the II and am quite pleased (and saved a little money)Note about the B&H included freebies: The 32gb SDHC card is very useful but the free Ruggard HFV-230 Protective Camera Case is useless. It doesn't properly fit the camera, they should have offered a slightly deeper model.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

This camera is absolutely amazing! Very compact and easy to use, it will be the perfect camera to take on your vacation trips.
The picture quality is superb particularly wide open. But the video quality is what's make it a stellar product. The 1080p 60fps shots are simply beautiful, noise free and fluid. The IS works like a charm.
My only complaint would be that mastering the menu requires some time but it is in no way a limitation.

              5 STARS well deserved!!

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

There have been many reviews praising this model so I won't go into the usual detail. I've only had the camera for a couple of weeks so any comment on picture quality, etc. would be premature. However, there are nice features worth mentioning: 1) fold out screen suitable for elevated or low-angle pictures; 2) wifi and NFC connectivity -- you can quickly transfer photos to your smartphone, and you can use your smartphone as a remote control (viewscreen, timer, and shutter) for the camera.
I was surprised at how heavy the camera feels. I decided to use a binocular strap and carry it around my neck. Too heavy for a pocket, and I don't like belt cases.
It is going to take me months to master all of the features. But, I don't think I'll be complaining about lack thereof.
You definitely should order the finger grip attachment for better physical control and to help prevent dropping. Shame on Sony for not having it included. Speaking of that, I would have liked for Sony to offer a hard case that accommodates the grip attachment and can be hung round the neck.
Usual problems with screen as "viewfinder" in bright sunlight.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

Sony has put everything into this little package. Great Zeiss lens. Easy access controls. Camera RAW. And the biggest sensor of any pocket sized camera for clear, crisp enlargements. No complaints at all; this is a wonderful camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I purchased this pocket camera as a backup camera for international mission trip travel. I was hoping it would match the quality of my Professional Cameras. At first I was very disappointed with the quality of indoor photos. I was almost ready to return the camera. Then...I finally discovered the "SCN" settings which are automated and include "High Sensitivity" for indoor photos. Wow!!! The photos indoors are now awesome! Even the high ISO is amazingly low on grain! I LOVE the camera!! Outdoor photos are as sharp and beautiful as my Canon 5D MarkII. Indoor are less grainy than my 7D at high ISO. I was disappointed at not having a viewfinder, and am getting used to that. Disappointed to discover they are NOW coming out with a newer version that includes a pop up viewfinder and 100mm lens! I would wait for that to come out, but you will not be disappointed in this powerpacked camera, that fits in any pocket. Solid nice construction! High quality photos usable by professionals!

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I wanted a point & shoot camera that was lightweight, easy to use, and produced RAW files that I could pretend to be an expert and fool around with. This camera does almost everything my Minolta Maxxum 9000 did (and has accessories that are comparable) except use Kodak film; it weighs almost nothing compared the the Maxxum 9000; and in adjusted for inflation dollars was much less expensive.

I bought this camera for my underwater addiction. I haven't had a chance yet to do that (give me 3 more weeks!) though I will come back and add a second review on that experience. So far I've used it to shoot award ceremony, students in my lab working, flowers around the garden, and an easter egg hunt. I've been very impressed with the clarity of photos. Also, being able to wirelessly load the photos to my phone, and then share with excited parents through airdrop on my phone was fantastic! The clarity is great, though as others have said the macro leaves something to be desired. I have tested it out of the water in the housing (with a +10 diopter) and strobe, the images were so clear you could see dust on the book I was photographing! I'm going to probably purchase one of the macro adaptors later for out of the water playtime! Also, the software (i usually use lightroom for underwater) isn't bad and good for quick touchups for facebook etc.
