There are a number of things that I love about this camera. First is the small size, there's certain activities I want to photograph when a small point and shoot form is the best. I also find the new tilt screen to be very handy for low or high angle shots. The images produced are super sharp, some vignetting is visible but its easily correctable in software. The overall color production is very pleasing as well, producing neutral colors that serve me well. The option for showing a level guide in the display is cool too.

There are of course a few things that bug me. The most glaring is the power on/off button. You can quickly turn the camera on, but to get it to power you have to carefully press down perfectly vertically. So about ¾ of the time it doesn't work for my stubby fingers. As I tend to use this camera while engaging in active shooting situations this is a bigger pain for me than for most folks. This 'feature' is helpful I'm sure for those times when you mistake the power off button for the shutter (potentially turning off the camera when you thought you were using the shutter button).

Another small complaint is in regards to the on-screen graphics that 'explain' each mode selected when you turn the shooting mode dial. They can be easily turned off by slightly depressing the shutter, but after awhile even that is annoying. (perhaps this 'feature' can be shut off and I haven't figured it out yet. )

The screen is easy to scratch up, so be careful. Given the rest of the camera is so robust it's a bit of a surprise that some tougher material isn't used. I may invest in one of those stick-on screen protectors that people get for the cell phones and things soon.

Although its not Sony's fault its probably worth mentioning that if you use Adobe Lightroom 4 you're out of luck in using this camera in RAW mode. I was able to update my Photoshop CS5 ACR to accommodate the camera, but there was no upgrade available for LR4. I then downloaded Lightroom 5 and it worked fine. No big deal, but I do hate getting a new camera then find myself having to shell out more bucks for software upgrades because older versions are no longer supported.

The number one question people would likely have about this camera is whether you can use it to replace your DSLR. No, but if I have to forgo the weight, size and intimidation factor of a DSLR this camera is a great choice.

The sensor is fabulous, image quality is fabulous, build quality is great, etc.

I have a few bones to pick, though.

1). It doesn't come supplied with an external charger. You have to either buy a separate charger (which I did), or plug the supplied power cord into the camera itself and charge the batter that way, which means for the duration of the charge cycle, you don't get to use the camera. For a compact camera at this price point, it's ridiculous they didn't include a proper external charger.

2. It's not a super intuitive camera to use. For the sake of comparison, while the Panasonic LX7 suffers from small sensor syndrome, it's an absolute joy to use. I didn't need a manual to figure out how to use it. The buttons are in the right place. It easy to change settings quickly. The Sony is another story. I ended up dropping 10 bucks on a 3rd party user's guide to learn how to use it since the Sony manual was a little annoying.

3. There's no dedicated AEL/AFL button, and the only button you can customize it to is the center button. It's not intuitive.

4. You can't program the ? button to do anything useful as far as I can tell. It's a complete waste of a button.

5. In AF-S, you can't reset the AF point back to the center without without manually doing it. It's annoying.

6. $449 bucks for the optional EVF? Insane! On Sony's website, I see one thing that says they dropped the price but when you click through to order, it shows the original price.

In truth, I'm slightly frustrated with the camera and in all honesty, I haven't really shot enough with it to give it a fair assessment. I find myself reaching for the LX-7 on my way out the door as my everyday shooter, but maybe because it's less than half the price so I won't feel quite as bad if I accidentally drop it and it's far easier to use. Maybe once I get a protective case for the RX100 and take it out of the house more, I'll get used to it.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I bought this camera for a backpacking trip this summer. It had the best reviews by far for a lightweight camera without sacrificing image quality. I've experimented with it hiking, at sunset, and this past weekend at a horse show. The image quality I was able to capture from a great distance, with poor lighting, was excellent. So far, I am very impressed! I've taken at least 100 pictures over the last 2 weeks and the battery still shows fully charged. It's been very easy to use. My only complaint so far is that I have been unable to use the WiFi to connect the camera to my phone. It's probably operator error, but the instructions don't seem to be the best for explaining this.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

Arthritis prevents me from lugging around 50 lbs of photo gear, so I bought the RX100 II just short of 2 yrs ago. I can only imagine how good the new version is, but if you can get the RX100 II, it's really a steal. Just don't expect it to work as well as a full-fledged dSLR, although it has most of the usual pro features. I mainly use it on the auto settings and haven't been disappointed, but manual works great once you get used to the little controls. Most important, photo quality is outstanding. The only features I'm not happy with are the horrible file system (particularly for the video files), Sony's video file format (although the videos are awesome and the mp4s are just fine), and the WiFi features.

      Low light fabulous

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

This camera was meant to replace a Nikon D70. The Sony is sharp and effective at low light. It focuses quickly and processes RAW+JPEG data comparably fast. The size and shape of the camera is quite different but the quality of the screen makes it OK to live without them optical viewfinder. One last point: ergonomics. There are many settings available in the menu and they are accessible on the fly. The more important seettngd can be adjusted at the barrel of the lens on a wide knurled ring which makes the camera fairly nice to adjust for a frequent adjuster such as myself.
The price BandH offered this camera kit was really the best part.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

This is a versatile camera that takes detailed photos with its 20 megapixels. It's a pocket-size camera that performs as well as many big cameras. You can use its fully automatic modes or go full manual control or anything in between. It has many wonderful, valuable features arranged so they are easily accessible to the practiced user. It takes time to get familiar with all the features, but it's worth the effort to have control over your photos. Meanwhile, you can go automatic while you're learning.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

It's pretty cool. I'm a videographer and a semi pro photographer. I bought it for myself for Christmas, and although it's kind of pricey, it delivers a very nice photo and amazing video. Wheh i received it, I was surprised that it is heavier and built more solidly than I thought it would be. I love having complete manual control for both photo and video and I like the 24p frame rate on the video and the 60p, for shots you want to edit into slowmo. Personally, I like having the hot shoe option and the wifi, so for me the extra $ over the rx100 made sense. It is a small body camera and the controls are pretty close together, that may be my only complaint. The other might be, you can get a DSLR with a kit lense for around the same price. I'd give it 5 stars, except for the lack of more tactile handling. I tend to like real knobs as opposed to menus, like on a DSLR. Yes, I would recommend this camera. Great camera if it holds up. So far it seems pretty sturdy. I'll give it 5 stars a year from now if it's still doing the job.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I bought this camera in October of 2015. It was treated with kid gloves and always kept in a case when not immediately in use. Notwithstanding this, the unit malfunctioned within about 2 months of pretty limited usage. The unit was giving me an error message and would not function. I made a warranty claim are was required to send the unit (at my cost) to a repair outfit selected by Sony. The camera was returned and developed a new problem (o ring around the lens dislodged) within the first few uses. This problem was distinct from the original problem. The repair outfit also did something with the camera settings that required a 30 min. call with Sony to correct. I complained bitterly to Sony. Sony thumbed their collective noses at me and is requiring me to again send the camera back to the same outfit for another repair. Completely unacceptable in my book. This is the last Sony product I will buy. By the way, the picture quality is not as good as I was expecting for the price, and the functions/setting are cumbersome to figure out how to use. Maybe I would feel differently about this last point if I actually had had more time to explore the unit, but as noted above, it stopped functioning not long after I received it. Shame on Sony for the contempt it shows for the purchasers of its products. A warranty is pointless if one has to continually return the unit for problems.

Lovely camera for carrying daily. It has the ability of a larger camera without the size. Good low light level photographs. Versatile.
Too bad the full manual is only on-line, but I downloaded it onto a memory stick. I would pay money to buy the manual in paper like the older cameras! I find it hard to learn all it can do without the paper manual. I feel I am not able to use everything this little camera can do because it is too difficult to go back and forth on line.
A bit of a longer zoom would be nice but I didn't want to lose the other good parts to get it.
Easy download to computer. Large screen to compose pictures. Great for traveling.

At first this seems expensive and that the extras were way over priced. But now that everyone is making a "bridge" camera, you can see that each makes compromises for price. But if you want to have one camera with you on a hike, or on a whale watch, or in your briefcase, this one will do an awful lot.

I bought this camera January, 2014. By August 2015, the Multi Terminal door won't stay closed; this door covers the Micro USB port. In September 2015, the flash wouldn't pop up automatically. Since the camera has a one-year warranty period, I was told by Sony to send it for repair. The quote from the Sony recommended camera repair, Precision Camera, was over $. I'm going back to Canon.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I've had the camera a couple of weeks and am amazed that it has functionality I hadn't realized it had when I bought it. Its optical zoom is limited to 100mm equiv., but it has a feature called clear image zoom, which extends out to 200mm equiv. with very little loss of image quality. It has dedicated hdr, but even in automatic modes has dynamic range optimization, which often obviates the need for formal hdr. My only critique is that the manual supplied with the camera is very basic. It's really worthwhile to order Alexander White's "Photographer's Guide to the Sony RX100ii," available on @ in Kindle for $: ---------- Photographers-Guide-Sony-DSC-RX100-II/dp/1937986187/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446352058&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+rx100ii+manual It tells you everything you'll ever need to know. The image quality rivals my slr, which is no slouch. Some of the creative features are pretty cool.

13.2x8.8mm is not 1" no matter how you convert the metric. It's about 5/8" diagonal. Do the math.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

As a professional photographer I'm used to carrying a lot of heavy equipment around, and while I always like to have a camera handy I just don't want to schlep a DSLR when I'm not working. But I still want pro-level control and outstanding image quality. My Sony RX100 II fits the bill quite nicely. I'm extremely pleased with the features and the image quality (especially in the RAW mode) is superb. The camera isn't always the easiest to navigate as there are lots of nested menus and such, but once you get it set up how you like it the overall build quality, features, and stellar image quality make up for it. I think it's amazing to have a camera that can produce images you can publish that slides into a pants pocket.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera:

I bought the camera 8 months ago for a cruise. When we returned, the LED screen didn't work. The camera functions fine otherwise...but without a range finder, it's worthless. I sent it into Sony for warranty repair. They said it was not repairable due to "corrosion damage"...and Sony's warranty does not cover this.

The only thing the camera was exposed to was 2 weeks of Carrabiean humidity. I do recall seeing another review citing the same expensive / disappointing experience. I wish that I had heeded their warning. Living in NM, the last thing we worry about is humidity!

Sony did offer a "15% rebate" on the purchase of a new one. After this expensive mistake, I don't think so!!

Right out of the box - Camera does not come with a wall charger for battery - you have to hookup camera to laptop to charge - has long warning list about what not to do while charging as it might hose your laptop - Going to buy wall charger - All port doors are flimsy appear easy to snap off - unhappy about that - will get back to you with more about camera as I use
