Fuji X-M1 Terrible in low light

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

This camera in general is very good. When you have enough light outdoor, the pictures are very good.

Don't count on it indoor with ambient light. You have to bump ISO really high, range of 1600, to get enough light for shutter around 1/60 or 1/90.

Video is terrible, blurry, wrong color/white balance. Junk!

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

Just took my new XM1 to Northern Ireland. I did not want to bring a bigger DSLR so I opted for the XM. In short, the pics are very sharp with good color. The camera is easy to handle but a optional grip would be helpful if you have bigger hands. Good battery life with the Fuji battery. The start-up is a bit slow as I am used to faster Nikon DSLRs. I did not mind the lack of a viewfinder though it would be a nice option. It does have a nice solid feel as the body is metal. I prefer a heavier camera and this fit the bill.

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

My primary camera is a full-frame Nikon D-700.

However, I wanted a smaller camera that could:
1- Fit in my car glove compartment
2- Have a large sensor (like my old Nikon D300)
3- Provide lots of menu options
4- Have a lens that covers 90% of the range I use
    5- Was cost effective

While I gave on the idea of a viewfinder, the screen is outstanding so I don't miss it. Also, the menu provides for a selection that lessens the glare on the LCD screen. Works well.

Overall, as a photographer with 50 years experience, I am very satisfied and would re-buy this camera.

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

Didn't really have it long enough for a thorough analysis but here are my observations based on a couple days evaluation.

Focus and handling are good indoors, files are beautiful. Command dials turn very easily however and are easy to nudge and inadvertently change settings with routine handling of the camera. Outdoors, I had trouble composing and shooting accurately even with the outdoor LCD boost. I really wanted to embrace this camera because I love shooting from high and low angles but realized I would still prefer a viewfinder for 95% of my shots.

Most disappointing however, was the build quality; from the photos, I expected something like the X-E1 or the X-Pro. In reality, the top and bottom plates are very plasticy as is the rest of the surface. I was worried about longevity and at this price point expected better build. That said, the buttons and other controls felt solid except for the tendency of the dials to turn with minor effort.

Bottom line, I returned it. Others may not take issue with my concerns but they were overwhelming for me.

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

I really like the camera. I was able to take pictures and transfer them to the smartphone and tablet right away.
    - size = perfect
    - weight = perfect
    - lens = quite tight during zooming, not as smooth
    - sharpness = so so. I didn't print but looking on line is very good.
    - battery = didn't take that many shots to know but been taking pictures since receiving it (2nd weeks now) and still going on the first charge.
    - I put in there the SDXC 128GB and it works fine.
    - I used the Vivitar 285HV in auto mode and it works great! The flash is too big for the cameral.
    - Focusing is problem in low light
    - I knew it before but having no viewfinder does bug me. I don't like looking at the rear monitor...too consumer like and not like "pro" :)

I tried to use it as a 2nd camera to my Fujifilm X-E1. The camera is physically smaller than the Fujifilm X-E1. It says so in the specs, but until you hold one in your hands, I did not know. The controls are a little different on the back of the camera, with most of them the same as the X-E1. I knew that it did not have a viewfinder. The screen does pull out to use for low and high subjects.

Comments about Fujifilm X-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Black XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens (Black):

Several years ago, I stopped lugging my dSLR when traveling and moved to a sony nex which served its purpose But, I wanted better image quality and have followed with interest the raves of IQ in the x-E1. But, I found that large and expensive for my needs. Hence, my interest when the x-m1 appeared. It has fully met my expectations! It is small and comfortable in the hand; not pocketable, but promises to be a fine travel companion. The camera is solid in feel. The image quality is spectacular with outstanding colors. ISO of 6400 has produces images that I will have no problem making large prints. The kit lens is very sharp; amazing value at $100 with the body. The camera focuses fast; it only struggles if dark and the subject has no contrast. But very acceptable. The x-m1 will now be my every day camera, not just for travel.
