As a professional videographer in local news I use a Panasonic HPX-370 every day. With my style of shooting a lot of people have told me I should look into still photography.

I have a lot of print colleges in the field that shoot on a 5DIII, 1D-x and Nikon D4. They all have expensive Nikkor or L-glass and I definitely see the beauty in what they produce. The more we talk tech, the more I wanted a DSLR, and maybe start doing some side still work.

After much thought, looking at the prices of full frame vs. crop frame sensors, Nikon vs. Canon, I decided that I could afford a crop frame, and save the money for nice glass. A "pro" camera, with low quality glass to me proved a difference.

I was about to buy a 6D when this camera came out, and honestly given the features I was sold on the 70D.

As a video guy, the articulated screen did a lot for me and the notion of pulling focus like on my iphone was neat. I figured with an upgraded sensor from the 7D (too impatient for the mkII) I would be buying a starter camera that would pave the way for me to buy a "pro" rig someday. The Rebel class statistics just didn't impress me.

In video I always go low gain more light. With this camera, getting fast glass and shooting with the highest shutter possible at 100-800 ISO is the key. It produces remarkable image quality to me for the price. The in camera noise reduction is pretty solid and the focus is remarkably fast. (I gave up pulling my own focus, AF is faster.) Know the limitations of your camera, and expect noise if you don't light accordingly.

If you like to do portraits the 50mm f1.4 is the way to go. (remember a budget) The 18-135 STM lens is quiet, and has a nice throw on a crop sensor. It makes me question carrying around the HPX-370. (aside from no pro audio inputs.)

A headphone jack would be awesome.

The camera is good for low ISO long exposure (I want to take it to a stargazer party, (I considered a 60D with the Hydrogen Alpha chip)

I would use it instead of my old Sony Z1U for my next "movie" production. I've realized the DOF is so much better with a DSLR than a video camera. The Dynamic Range with a polarizer astounds me.

Save the money if Full Frame vs. Crop frame is in question, take a few features, and get nice glass with your money.

Remember it's not the camera that makes the photographer, it's the photographer that makes the camera!!

As is the case with many other owners' experience with the 70D, mine is also extremely underexposing my indoor low light bounce/diffuser flash photos. Whether I'm bouncing the 430ex II flash off a white ceiling that's about eight feet high or using a Sto-fen diffuser attached to it.

Whether the lens being used is the Canon 15-85 or the 55-250 STM, all low light indoor photos with the diffuser attached and with the flash head tilted 45 degrees, or 180 degrees, or direct facing are very underexposed. Same results with bouncing the flash.

The photos are even more underexposed when I'm zooming in on the subject.

However, If I use FEL before snapping the photos, they all come out looking great, zooming in or not. Without FEL the same photo is very underexposed.

If I use the same flash setup in manual mode, without using FEL, and adjust the power down to say 1/2 or 1/4 or somewhere in between, the photos seem properly exposed (as long as I dial in the correct flash power adjustment). With a zoom lens that has a variable aperture, it's a hit and miss approach and quite cumbersome.

Also, I tried the same lenses attached to my Canon T3i taking the same photos as I did with the 70D using the same flash and diffuser without using FEL. The photos all came out looking very good with no underexposure whatsoever. Then I tried using FEL with the T3i. There was no difference between using FEL and not using it on my T3i. All photos with and without FEL were properly exposed and looked great.

I use bounce flash indoors a lot on our one year old granddaughter. I never had this problem, or any other issue, with my T3i. I guess I'll have to resort to FEL use, but that amount flashes takes a toll on an infant. She begins to cry after a few photos if I'm using FEL for each one. Plus, it's hard to get candid shots when an FEL pre-flash is being used.

I'm now wondering if this will negatively effect exposures on outside fill flash photos with a diffuser attached.

Apparently, many people are having the same issue with the 70D and have supposedly contacted Canon about it. I sure hope a firmware fix is coming soon.

Comments about Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Great camera all around. I've used it for 6 months already in trips to Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Italy, England and Costa Rica and can't be more satisfied with it.

            Here's a few reasons why:

            * As a Canon SLR user for 20 years there was basically no learning curve, I just turned it on and started shooting. It basically feels the same as using an old ELAN 7 film SLR

            * My previous camera didn't have a swivel LCD screen and at first I thought I was not going to like it but now I just love it. It's great for shooting from odd position, like above a crowd or from close to the ground.

            * Build quality is excellent and even in tropical weather (Vietnam, Costa Rica) and changing lenses, I haven't had problems with the sensor getting dirty or anything like that.

            * Noise is basically unnoticeable at ISO 800 and below, ISO 1600 and even 3200 are very usable.

            * It's nice to have wifi to share pictures online easily throught a tablet.

            My complaints:

            * No integrated GPS as in the 6D. Not an essential feature but it would be nice to have.

            * As of July 2014 still no tethered shooting available for Adobe Lightroom.

            *

I bought the 70D for the fast fps rate and the auto focus with video. I shoot a lot of girls softball and the fast fps rate is great. I was hoping for a little better high ISO performance, but am satisfied with the purchase. The autofocus is fast and I like the flexible focus zones.

For the outdoor photographer on a limited budget this is the perfect camera in both cost, and weight.

Has most of the features that the more expensive cameras have, but at a reasonable cost.

Lens switching is easy, focus system is perfectly suited for outdoor photography, with plenty of additional features to allow a great deal of creativity.

I do mostly HDR photography, and this was perfect for the July 11 full moon with cloudy skies we had where I live. I upgraded from the D-50, and the increased megapixels and ISO, and decreased noise was obvious. I also like the position of the on/off button and the Q button makes settings I need to change easy to find and adjust. I did not use auto-focus because I was using a Tamron lense. Also haven't tested the battery life.

I purchased the 70D as an upgrade to my crop camera. I had a 50D. I try to have a camera that will give my lenses a little more reach than my FF does. I don't get a new body every time Canon adds an upgrade. For me it has to be worth the upgrade. I have been using this camera a few months and love it. I love the wifi (have on my 6D), swivel screen (had on G-series P&S) and touch screen. If you are coming from a 50D or earlier the button layout will take a little getting used to. My only complaint is it isn't weather sealed like the 30 and 50D.

Got this camera as a back up camera for my wedding photo and video business. Great for both photo and specially video since it got the tilt and touch screen LCD.

Comments about Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I've been a Canon photographer since my days of my 35mm AE1-Program. My new EOS 70D is just another in that line. A great step up from my first Canon DSLR so my lenses work and with the new camera and they perform even better. Focus is much faster and has more options, much better ISO selections with far less degradation and better overall operations make for better photos.

Comments about Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Moved from a T3i which in my mind satisfied everything I wanted at the time. The 70D packs a huge amount of convenience into a reasonably priced package.

I wound up selling my Sony video camera due to the high quality of video offered by the 7D.

I shoot RAW primarily and the new options to control HDR with more exposures is welcome.

Additionally the customization options once set allowed quick and convenient changes to camera settings.

The only noticeable difference is the increase in weight of the camera itself.

Comments about Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I've owned the Canon 60D for two years and have shot tens of thousands of photos with it for my magazine (I'm a trade publication editor). Love it as a good pro camera that's affordable. But for video, I lusted after the 70D's autofocus system. After two weeks of using it, it has completely lived up to my expectations for ease of use and world-class image quality on the video side. As a bonus, it seems to take better pictures more often than the 60D, something I didn't expect. Ergonomics are great, too, although they moved the menu button from the right to the left, which takes some getting used to. All in all, a fantastic camera for the price. Oh, I'm using the 17-55 2.8 as my primary lens, and love it. Also have the 10-22, the 70-200 f4 non-IS (which I may upgrade to IS for video purposes), and the 85 1.8.

Comments about Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera (Body Only):

About Me: I am a videographer who does weddings and other events. I have mainly used a T3i before with a little Blackmagic experience. Compared to the T3i; this thing is MAGICAL.

Pros: Compared to the T3i; this thing is light years ahead.
                        * The autofocus is a handy feature and works quite well. You can set it to track an object/face or just have it focus whats in the middle. There are even dedicated buttons to turn off autofocus mid-video.
                        * The size is a little larger and gives it a more professional feel.
                        * Although on a very small scale; the ISO noise is a little better.
                        * Battery life is much better than T3i.

                        Cons:
                        * Shutter is a little louder than T3i when taking photos.
                        * If object you are tracking is moving FAST (under 2 seconds across the entire frame) the camera will have a difficult time tracking.
                        * Does not hold 2 SD cards.
