More Info

Q-Clone from Waves is a plug-in that utilizes a unique technology that allows one to use outboard hardware equalizer within a digital audio workstation (DAW) with complete repeatability. The plug-in consists of two components - a capture signal generator that is sent out to the external hardware device, and a capture component that stores the returned information.

For example, let's say one wants to enhance the bass sound of a recorded track with a favorite piece of external EQ. The original recorded signal is sent out to the hardware unit along with an ultra-sonic capture signal that "reads" the EQ settings. This is then returned to the capture component which stores an EQ curve that was originally produced by the hardware EQ.

By capturing the sound of the user's gear, Q-Clone allows one to use that EQ setting freely throughout a session, adjusting the sound of each track just as one would if one had dozens of the same hardware equalizer units. It must be understood that it captured setting does just that. It takes a "snap-shot" of the equalizers settings. Further enhancements to another track would require sending a signal out to the outboard unit and creating another capture component.

However, once this is done, the original EQ settings are stored with the session and even if the original hardware unit is not available at a later date, the settings and the "effect" of the EQ are still present in the session.

Note! Requires an iLok if one is not present on the system.

Real Knobs, Real Hardware Sound
Q-Clone has two components. Q-Capture, which is used to capture the sound of the hardware, and Q-Clone, which shows the equalization curve of the hardware and provides other functions. Q-Capture constantly samples the hardware unit's sound, tracking every twist made on the gear's knobs in real time. The calibration feature allows one to tune Q-Capture precisely to the unit's headroom and dB range.
Hardware EQ on as Many Tracks as Required
Even the most well-equipped studios have a limited supply of outboard EQs, which limits the channels one can put them on. That limitation disappears with Q-Clone. It's like opening a closet and finding stacks and stacks of a favorite EQ - enough for every channel and more.
Save and Recall
No more writing down the settings on the hardware to get the same sound when returning to a mix. Q-Clone holds the sound right there when the session opens. Multiple settings can be saved as presets and instantly loaded, A/B'd and adjusted.
Unlimited Hardware Chains
If a sound involves putting two EQs in a chain, Q-Clone can clone that composition sound also. Using the Add feature, one can apply new equalization to a track that's already been equalized or create an 8-band EQ version out of a 4-band favorite piece of hardware. The preset can then be saved, and the signature sound is always available, even without having the hardware present.
