A step up from Celestron's Advanced Series and just below their ultra-heavy-duty CGE Series, Celestron's CGEM Computerized Equatorial Mount is a spiffy evolution offering brains and brawn in a distinguished outfit.
This is certainly a mount with plenty of brute strength; it has a 90mm main shaft with brass worm wheels, allowing it to support telescope configurations of up to 40 lbs (~18kg). That means you can easily support typical 11" Schmidt-Cassegrains for observing and imaging, with plenty of accessories upon the eyepiece end of things, expecting razor-sharp imagery limited by your optics and not your mount.
The CGEM makes observing easy; improvements include redesigned altitude and azimuth adjustment knobs and the "All-Star" polar alignment procedure, which allows selection of a bright star near the polar axis with the computerized software helping one further hone in upon perfect alignment (optional polar axis finderscope and GPS accessory are available). As a "GO-TO" scope, the CGEM mount offers an enormous library of objects to see with just the push of a button.
The CGEM is ready to go for serious astrophotography. It has exceptionally well-compensated periodic error correction, and will learn in that regard as you make images with an off-axis guider or autoguider (the mount has a 6-pin port for an optional third-party autoguider). The strength of the axis shafts combined with the available GPS coupling allow for images of several hours with crisp delineation (Celestron Power Tank is recommended for long exposures).
The CGEM operates off of a car battery or a portable 12V battery. The optional Power Tank will certainly give an entire night's observing without concern for power.
