The Ikelite Underwater Housing for Nikon D5100 is a durable waterproof case that allows you to shoot underwater with your Nikon D5100 DSLR camera. Constructed from clear polycarbonate, the case gives you a view of the main and port O-ring seals and the camera controls, all of which are accessible except for the diopter adjustment dial. The controls are kept water-tight with Ikelite-pioneered Quad-Ring seal glands. A large zoom control knob and the video recording start / stop function can be comfortably reached without removing your hand from the handle. The case features a depth rating of 200' (60 m) and has slightly negative fresh water buoyancy, depending on your choice of lens port - required but not included.
The Super-Eye magnifier offers enhanced visibility of the camera's viewfinder while you are wearing a diving mask. The camera's large LCD screen can be clearly viewed through the back of the housing. The live preview feature of the camera is accessible for framing your photos using the LCD screen. Release handles with comfortable rubber grips allow for easy attachment and removal of mounting arms at the touch of a button. Two 12-24 screws remove the handle and tray assembly for traveling. A 1/4-20 threaded top mount enables focus light attachment. The optional #9571.6 1.0" (2.5 cm) and #9573.1 Flex Ball Adapters are accepted (sold separately).
A full range of dome and flat ports accommodate most macro, wide-angle and zoom lenses. The modular port system offers maximum versatility and performance with interchangeable 8.0" (20.3 cm) dome and flat port assemblies. Port attachment is quick and easy with a simple locking system and the port O-ring seal is clearly visible through the housing. External color correction filters are not available for this housing.
The camera's built-in flash is not usable, but the housing does include TTL conversion circuitry, which works perfectly with all current model Ikelite DS Substrobes. Compared to fiber-optic based systems, hard-wired TTL control provides more accurate exposure, shorter recycle times and increased battery life for both your camera and strobe. Exposure is directly adjusted through the back of the housing using 2 push buttons. Settings are clearly indicated even in darkness by a series of LED lights. The TTL mode provides 4 half f/stop increments over or under flash compensation to fine-tune exposure. Eight manual power settings in half-stop increments allow for complete creative control.
Use the #4103.52 dual sync cord to connect two DS Substrobes to your system. Non-Ikelite strobes can be used but cannot provide eTTL exposure or be adjusted manually through the housing. Special sync cords are available to connect non-Ikelite strobes from Nikonos, Inon, and Sea & Sea. Optional #9571.3 has a 1.0" (2.5 cm) ball for attachment to the top of the release handle, providing a mounting point for Ultralight, TLC, and other non-Ikelite arm systems. Video lighting options for this housing include the DS161 Movie Substrobe, the Pro-V8 LED light and the PRO-2800 LED.
