New Casio PX-150, PX-350, PX-750 and PX-850 Privia Digital Pianos

Casio recently announced four new digital pianos in the popular Privia line: the PX-150, PX-350, PX-750 and PX-850. All of these instruments provide a realistic sounding and authentic feeling piano-playing experience, complete with built-in speakers and multiple instrument sounds. The new models feature Casio’s proprietary AiR (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) sound engine, which utilizes more than three times as much memory as the previous generation of these keyboards. This translates into providing more detailed and nuanced sound quality.

When you use a sustain pedal with the new Privia keyboards, the damper resonance and hammer response is simulated for added realism. The keys have been redesigned as well. The 88 key scaled hammer-action keyboards have a simulated Ebony-and-Ivory feel, and tri-sensors help to recreate the speed and response of real piano keys. All of the new Privia models feature class compliant MIDI connectivity through their USB ports. This means that you can plug them directly into a Mac or PC computer and use them as a keyboard controller for software instruments.

Here’s a closer look at the separate models and the differences between them:

PX-150

The new Casio PX-150 features 18 instrument sounds, 60 built-in songs and the ability to record one song with two separate tracks. The PX-150 doesn’t come with a stand, but it does include the SP-3 sustain pedal. You can add a full complement of piano pedals to the PX-150 with the separately available Casio SP-33 pedal, which features damper, soft and sostenuto pedals. There is a dedicated port for the SP-33 on the bottom of the unit. The CS-67 stand is also available separately for the PX-150. The two accessories can be purchased together in the PAC 2BK bundle. The PX-150 is also available in white. The CS-67 stand and SP-33 pedal bundle is also available in matching white.

PX-350

The new PX-350 is a good option if you prefer digital pianos that have more instrument sounds and auto-accompaniment attributes. It features 250 instrument tones and 180 built-in rhythm patterns. Like the PX-150, you can add a full set of piano pedals to the PX-350 with the separately available Casio SP-33 pedal, which features damper, soft and sostenuto pedals. There is a dedicated port for the SP-33 on the bottom of the unit. The CS-67 stand is also available separately for the PX-150. The two accessories can be purchased together in the PAC 2BK bundle. The PX-350 is also available in white. The CS-67 stand and SP-33 pedal bundle is also available in matching white.

PX-750

If the features of the PX-150 sounded appealing, but you were looking for a keyboard with an included stand that had a more traditional piano presence, the PX-750 is the way to go. Its specs nearly match the PX-150 note for note, with the exception of the damper, soft and sostenuto pedals, which are built into the PX-750. The incorporated stand is complete with a sliding keyboard cover for a true acoustic piano vibe.

PX-850

While all of the new Privia pianos feature built-in amplified speakers, the new PX-850 turns it up a notch by offering the same large drivers as the PX-750, but with additional 2” tweeters, and more than twice as much power. Likewise, the maximum polyphony on the PX-850 is 256 notes, as opposed to the 128 note maximum polyphony on the rest of the new Privia keyboards. The additional polyphony makes for richer tones, especially when you’re taking advantage of the keyboard’s layering ability.
