There are obvious reasons to choose a dedicated camcorder as a gift for Mother’s Day. For starters, it won’t ring in the middle of video recording. Next, the better camcorders contain an optical zoom lens that doesn’t degrade the picture resolution during close-ups.

The annual NAB show is always an exciting affair, with each year bringing ever more technical advancements. The 2012 show was no exception, and despite the predictions in certain quarters of the demise of DVDs as a distribution medium, huge interest was shown in the JVC SR-H D2500US Blu-ray recorder.

JVC announced two powerful ENG cameras at NAB 2012, the GY-HM600 and GY-HM650. Both of these professional handheld HD camcorders feature 1/3-inch 1920 x 1080 12-bit CMOS sensors, F11 light sensitivity at 2000 lux, a fast f/1.6 Fujinon Auto Focus 23x zoom lens, and more.

In 2012, it’s not enough to shoot high-def video through an optical zoom lens for viewing later on a TV or computer. Wi-Fi-enabled families want to be able to monitor the video live on their smartphones and tablets or transfer clips directly from the camcorder to the Internet.

A caring parent will always try to respond quickly to the needs of young ones, but sometimes this requires the powers of a superhero. You need to be able to see and hear through walls and leap over tall buildings in a single bound.

One of the best reasons to put on headphones (besides to hear music that’s truly worth listening to) is to shut out the world around you. However, it's difficult to quiet down noisy environments, like the cabin of an airplane or the chatter in an office.

It took a while for the whole world to catch up to the HDTV movement, but nowadays you have to go out of your way even to find a TV that’s not HD. A similar situation exists with camcorders, although there are still plenty of SD camcorders for sale. Even so, JVC has just announced the GY-HMQ10, a handheld 4K camcorder that you’ll be able to buy in March.

People see in 3D because they have two eyes, each relaying a slightly different perspective to the brain, which then combines the two images to create a sense of depth. Traditional cameras and camcorders can never capture 3D because they have only one lens.

Consumers have more choices in camcorders than ever before, and some of them seem downright professional with features sets that are packed to the rafters. Canon’s VIXIA HF G10 Flash Memory Camcorder shoots 1920 x 1080 high definition video, and you can choose frame rates of 60i, 30p or 24p for a cinematic look and feel.

It’s easy to miss a shot, even for professionals. It’s a common occurrence to have camera in hand, finger on the shutter release, waiting for the right moment to trigger. You might be waiting for a slugger to swing his bat or for a race car driver to pass before you.

Anyone can take a basic camcorder, capture an important event or family gathering and put together a reasonable, if somewhat amateurish presentation that friends and family can enjoy. But when you watch a segment on the evening news, you expect the footage to look professional.

3D video is proving to be a lot more than just a passing fad. More and more movies are being released in 3D, and new 3D TVs are being announced all the time. Newer still are 3D camcorders, which can produce 3D video at the touch of a button.

Shopping in person has always held a distinct advantage over shopping online in that you could pick up the product and examine it every which way. But now, even that’s changing.

Cleaning resolutions spring eternal, but when it comes to protecting the investment in your flat-panel TV and other components, you’d be wise to follow through with a little preventive maintenance.

When it comes to ENG video capture, form factor and performance are paramount, and with a total weight of 8.2 lb (including the lens, 4.3" LCD screen, microphone and battery) and phenomenal image quality, the JVC GY-HM750U ProHD solid state compact shoulder camcorder  makes for an attractive video recording package.
