In the ever-changing, innovative world of video production, making a new camcorder-purchasing decision requires up-to-date knowledge of the latest features available, along with an understanding of tried-and-true technology. Even seasoned professionals will need to take some time to research the myriad choices offered, then carefully determine which camera fits their needs.

With the Alpha NEX-6, Sony expands its lineup of mirrorless cameras with APS-C-size sensors and interchangeable lenses. The NEX-6 has a 16.1 MP sensor and options for both beginners and advanced users: There are several in-camera editing tools and two powerful Auto modes, and more professional users will appreciate the Program, Aperture, Shutter Priority, and Manual Modes.

When most people think of a wedding, the visuals come to mind. The ceremony, the reception hall, being surrounded by friends and family, and of course the beautiful white dress.

Many hobbyists reach a turning point in their craft when they decide to pursue wedding photography seriously. With the transition to pro comes the task of updating your lens kit accordingly, and most photographers would agree that investing in quality glass is essential.

Sony has just released several updates and new models in their lines of photographic equipment. Two interchangeable-lens cameras, new lenses and Cyber-shot point-and-shoots are available. These cameras build upon Sony’s extensive history of making cameras with high imaging performance that are enjoyable to use regularly.

Sony has recently released their new SxS PRO+ memory cards. The new cards are optimized to accommodate Sony’s F5 and F55 CineAlta 4K cameras. SxS PRO+ cards support maximum write speeds of 1.5 Gbps, which enables reliable, high frame rate 4K capture. The new cards are available in 64GB or 128GB capacities.

Sony recently introduced a handful of high resolution, feature heavy point-and-shoot cameras. From long zoom bridge cameras to high performance, full HD and Wi-Fi connected compacts to entry level grab-and-goes, this new line of cameras offers something for everyone.

Sony has announced their 2013 lineup of Handycam camcorders. These are consumer and enthusiast-level cameras with a host of new features, many of which have trickled down from Sony’s prosumer models. The new Handycams range from the entry-level HDR-CX220 to the HDR-TD30V, a 3D camcorder for advanced enthusiasts.

Sony has just announced the arrival of two new DWZ Series 2.4 GHz digital wireless packages to their DWZ line of wireless products. The DWZ-M70 Vocal/Speech Set and the DWZ-B70HL Headset and Lavalier Set are designed to provide wireless audio solutions for musicians, churches, schools and corporate applications.

The NEX-VG30 is Sony's latest iteration in a very popular series of large-sensor Handycams that feature interchangeable E-mount lenses. The main innovation of the VG30 is the zoom rocker, which executes the wide-to-telephoto action of the new 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Power Zoom lens that's available as part of a kit with this camcorder.

Sony has announced two new Alpha E-mount lenses for their NEX series of digital mirrorless cameras. The first is the Alpha E-mount 20mm f/2.8 prime lens which makes it, along with the 16mm f/2.8 lens, their second wide-angle prime lens for the NEX system. The other lens introduced today is the Alpha E-mount 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 PZ OSS Lens.

Admittedly, it seems that this year’s CES breakout products were more about big tablets, smart TVs and gaming, but a few standout cameras and camcorders were introduced last week that will most likely be hot items in the year to come and, for camcorders, might even signal a path for a new marketing niche.

Along with the NEX-EA50UH, Sony packages an 18-200mm lens that  features a servo zoom—a first for an E-mount lens. With an APS-C-sized sensor, the camcorder offers the large sensor (over 16Mp) that you need to achieve shallow depth of field easily for both photos and video.
