Last week a peculiarly shaped device appeared on my desk. It was a compact, solid square box with a rather alien aesthetic, by which I mean it looked like something out of a Star Trek episode. The perfectly square cube was dark gray with long diagonal grooves across its entire surface.

Hot on the heels of the iXY microphone, RØDE now introduces the smartLav lavalier microphone—for smartphones. Not only is it compatible with Apple iOS products, the smartLav also works with many Android devices as well.

Australian manufacturer RØDE recently announced the smartLav, a unique lavalier microphone for Apple and Android portable devices. It's specially designed to bring high quality, discreet audio-recording capabilities to videographers, journalists, lecturers and others—without the need for expensive and complicated equipment.
