Sony has announced a new long zoom, high-performance point-and-shoot camera: the Cyber-shot HX50V Digital Camera. With a 20.4MP BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ Image Processor, sharp imagery, low-light sensitivity, quick performance, and fast autofocus speeds are part and parcel.

The recently introduced Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM lens is the first lens to be part of Sigma’s Global Vision Sports line, and as such, strives to be a highly precise and optically sound lens that can function well in fast-paced situations.

Fujifilm has recently released an array of new S series digital cameras, which combine long zoom lenses with the ease of use of a point-and-shoot system. With this amalgam of characteristics in mind, the physical construction of these cameras incorporates balanced ergonomics along with impressive image quality.

Samsung’s new Galaxy point-and-shoot digital camera delivers the next step in combining high-power compact photography with the familiar element of smart-device technology. The sleek GC110 Galaxy, which comes in white or black, pairs built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

If you’re in the market for a new point-and-shoot camera this spring, you may be especially impressed with Canon’s recently introduced 2013 lineup. New improvements to design and functionality guarantee high-quality images and video across the board. Many models now come with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.

The compact camera market is broad, and Olympus holds its own as one of the top manufacturers of quality point-and-shoot devices. Their 2013 lineup offers perfect solutions for a range of both traditional and unique applications.

A macro lens is an important tool for a wedding photographer. Perhaps not as crucial as capturing the kiss at the altar or the daddy-daughter dance, a close-up of the rings, flowers or candle being lit is considered part of the standard package. These moments may very well be situated in less than ideal lighting conditions, so a fast macro lens is needed to guarantee you get that shot.

Nikon has announced not only a new version of its wonderful 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, but three new point-and-shoot cameras, including the new flagship COOLPIX A digital camera with a large DX-format sensor.

In the ever-changing, innovative world of video production, making a new camcorder-purchasing decision requires up-to-date knowledge of the latest features available, along with an understanding of tried-and-true technology. Even seasoned professionals will need to take some time to research the myriad choices offered, then carefully determine which camera fits their needs.

Sony has announced their 2013 lineup of Handycam camcorders. These are consumer and enthusiast-level cameras with a host of new features, many of which have trickled down from Sony’s prosumer models. The new Handycams range from the entry-level HDR-CX220 to the HDR-TD30V, a 3D camcorder for advanced enthusiasts.

Canon has announced three new point-and-shoot cameras to further extend the range of options within their popular PowerShot line of digital cameras. Each of the cameras provides compact design with a high-resolution (12- or 16MP) sensor, wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens and HD video capture.

In this video from B&H, Larry Becker offers a basic introduction to the challenges of, and solutions for, shooting in low light with a DSLR or mirrorless camera. He explains ISO sensitivity, shutter speed and aperture settings and demonstrates how simple in-camera adjustments will provide marked improvements when shooting indoors.

The number of fast, wide aperture prime optics we carry at B&H has grown over the past year, and in a market that has become increasingly populated by slower, variable-aperture zooms, this is encouraging news.

As camera technology continues to progress, lenses also continue to evolve. With improved sensor technology and greater resolution cameras, a lens's main progression is to keep up with the amount of data and image quality that can be resolved by an image sensor and processor.

2012 has seen an in increase in all things mirrorless, that being a bit of an umbrella term for compact interchangeable-lens cameras, their lenses and adapters. Canon, for example, released its first mirrorless camera system in 2012 and most major manufacturers have added new cameras to their mirrorless lineups. Of course, a growing list of lenses for these cameras—of all focal lengths—is now available, too.
