The VoiceTone Mic Mechanic is a new arrival from TC-Helicon. It’s a pedal box for singers that offers reverb, delay and pitch correction. Any singer who’s ever played at a tiny club with a flat mic, dead acoustics or no sound guy, knows the frustration that comes from singing in this type of venue. Now, instead of skulking off stage after a mediocre performance, you can walk off proud knowing you nailed it with a little help from the VoiceTone Mic Mechanic.
The Mic Mechanic features a balanced XLR output with a pro-quality, low-noise preamp with phantom power. The pedal provides three reverbs, an echo effect and a reverb/echo combo. The middle knob is a dry/wet control for dialing in the perfect effects balance. There’s a mic gain knob as well, which is recessed into the pedal so you don’t accidently bump it during your set.
The inclusion of two performance-optimizing effects really sets the Mic Mechanic pedal apart. Auto-Chromatic Pitch Correction gives you that added edge by subtly guiding your voice to the nearest pitch. This ensures you’ll always be on, even if you can’t quite hear yourself or are working with a flat mic. TC-Helicon promises that it won’t make you sound like a robot. Adaptive Tone frees your voice from the grips of lazy and/or incompetent sound personnel. With the Adaptive Tone engaged, the Mic Mechanic will automatically add sound-sweetening EQ, compression, de-essing and gating to your vocal. This feature works well to soften the rough edges on any sonic environment.
The reverb and delay effects come from TC-Helicon’s popular VoiceLive series. The room, studio and hall reverbs delivered by the Mic Mechanic will surround your voice, add warmth and eliminate any deadness that may be a result of the room. The pedal’s tap and slap delays feature a Tap Tempo control, so you’ll be able to match your delay pattern perfectly to the tempo of each song. By themselves, delay and reverb are enough to drastically improve your vocals in any venue. Plus, you can blend the two together for interesting reverb/delay combinations.
Another highlight of the Mic Mechanic is its compatibility with the TC-Helicon MP-75 Modern Performance Vocal Microphone (sold separately.) If you use both pedal and mic together, you’ll be able to turn the pedal on and off remotely with the mic. Onboard USB connects you to VoiceSupport applications that provide tips, tricks and product updates. The Mic Mechanic also features a durable, all-metal housing and rubberized base, which will keep the pedal in place for your entire performance.
