Bescor Battery for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera

B&H now carries Bescor’s new rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which is designed to power the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. As you may know, the camera’s built-in battery cannot be removed or replaced by the user. This necessitates the use of an external power source, like Bescor’s BM-EPIC battery kit. This kit includes the BM-LiON battery and the BM-CGR charger.

Bescor states that the BM-LiON offers 3 to 4 times more run time than the camera’s internal battery, which should translate into approximately 3-4 hours. The battery comes bundled with Bescor’s BM-CGR charger. The charger accepts 110-240 volt sources, which makes it compatible with the power grid standards of all countries. Using this device, the battery can receive a full charge in 3 to 4 hours; so users should be able to rotate two batteries continuously with minimal down time.

The BM-LiON battery utilizes lithium-ion technology, which is known for having no memory effects and a relatively slow loss of charge when not in use. The BM-EPIC has a capacity of 98WH and operates at between 12 and 16.8 VDC. The battery is rated for more than 500 charge cycles.

The BM-LiON weighs just 1.32 lb and is enclosed in a canvas pouch with a “military style” clip for attaching to a belt or similar support systems. The battery is tethered to the camera via a 3’ wire with a 2.5mm barrel connector. Many run-and-gun shooters will find this to be one of the most convenient external battery designs for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.
