In that spirit, B&H is pleased to announce a partnership with Kelby Media Group to offer memberships to the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) as well as subscriptions to online Kelby Training. I do intraoperative surgical photography. I use a Nikon D700, macro lens -60- and a circular ring flash.

My question- No matter what I do I have a real problem with white balancing

Room lights ,( diff temperatures of bulbs) , table lights- tungstein  ( even though I move them away from the table ) and ring flash-   (and therefore more influence by other  lights) . When I am within 20-40 cm, good color and nice reds.

When I Have The Problem is when I am further out

eg 80-100 cm .  The photos are to orange/yellow, Ican't seem to correct this with the PRE white balance . When I switch toa regular flash at the greater distances it seems to be a little better

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Hello,

The issue is the variety of ambient (room lights) that are affecting your exposure. If you were soley exposing for your ring flash, you would not see the color shift as much. With the amount of different color temp light sources, I doupt any in camera WB will help.

"Room lights (diff temperatures of bulbs)"  You have 2 options: turn them off or change or filter the bulbs to the same color temp.

"table lights- tungsten" Same here, you can use daylight balanced bulbs, filter the bulbs or turn them off.
