The HD 700’s are equipped with Sennheiser’s most cutting-edge acoustical concepts. The ear cups house 40mm Duofol transducers, which are positioned to direct sound at an angle, rather than firing directly into your ears. This is done to mimic the acoustic feel of speakers in a room, and not to invoke the experience of having speakers strapped to your head. The flow of air behind the moving diaphragms inside the ear cups is vented through holes in the magnets, which minimizes turbulence and ultimately improves sound quality. The steel mesh outside the transducer is shaped to optimize the acoustic sum of the headphones while still enabling the passage of air. Even the multilayer headband of the HD 700 is designed to share the acoustic duties of the components by suppressing dips in low-frequency sound.
Like the top-of-the-line HD 800 headphones, the entire frame of the HD 700 dampens vibration and eliminates unwanted resonance. Because of its open-back architecture, the HD 700s are best enjoyed in a controlled listening environment with as little ambient noise as possible.
