Nikon has just announced a new 800mm f/5.6 lens to be added to its expanding line of NIKKOR super telephoto lenses. This lens will take its place as the longest lens in Nikon’s lineup, surpassing the AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR in focal length. The new NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6 should serve to be an ideal lens for a wide range of outdoor subject matter, ranging from sports to wildlife applications. The extreme focal length, balanced with a wide maximum aperture, will also incorporate Nikon’s AF-S silent wave autofocus motor and VR image stabilization system in order to achieve the sharpest images possible with a lens of this magnitude. This lens will be fully compatible with Nikon FX-mount cameras and will feature the same dust and water resistance for which its other super telephoto lenses are known.
The official release date of the lens has not been announced, but it will debut at the prestigious Open Championship golf tournament at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s in England, later this month.
