Sony HDR-AS HD Action Camcorder
Sony has finally announced a pair of compact, rugged Full HD camcorders for point-of-view (POV) action sports videography. As this corner of the camcorder market continues to grow, we knew it would only be a matter of time until Sony offered a viable contender. The Sony HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15 are basically the same camera with one exception: the HDR-AS15 provides Wi-Fi capability. This means that Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones and tablets that are equipped with Sony’s free PlayMemories Mobile app can pull optimized movies and photos from the HDR-AS15 without a cable. Once video is copied to your mobile device, you can use its 3G or 4G mobile broadband connection to email movies to friends and family or upload your footage to social media sites.

Both the HDR-AS10 and the HDR-AS15 are designed for shooting in mountains, water or anywhere else you practice an extreme sport. They’re ideal for skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, motocross, skydiving, mountain biking—even bungee jumping. These lightweight and rugged wearable action camcorders weigh only 3.2 ounces (90 g) and they record at resolutions up to Full HD 1920 x 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps). They also support other shooting modes including a 2x and 4x Slow Motion Video Mode. The 2x Slow Motion Mode supports 1280 x 720p HD resolution video capture at
60 fps. The 4x Slow Motion Mode supports 1280 x 720p HD resolution video capture at an amazing 120 fps. Having 120 frames per second to break down video frame by frame makes the 4x Slow Motion Mode a valuable tool for both movie making and review of your tricks, line, form and technique.
Sony includes a rugged waterproof housing with each camera. The housing has a universal tripod mount and is waterproof to a depth of 197 feet (60 m). It is also dirt and dust resistant, which makes the camera nearly impervious to mud, snow, rain, sand and grime. Both cameras also feature two adhesive mounts that attach securely to most flat and curved surfaces. With the waterproof housing, included mounts, different shooting modes and soon-to-be-available optional mounts, these action camcorders will excel when shooting extremem sports in virtually any environment.
The HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15 are both equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with an ultra-wide 170° viewing angle. They also have back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensors, which offer superb low-light performance and support Full HD video. To compensate for camera shake that’s typical when shooting POV action for extreme sports, Sony outfitted both models with SteadyShot Image
Stabilization with Active Mode, which uses an innovative 3-way shake-canceling function to reduce blur caused by camera shake.
Other convenient features shared by the HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15 include Press-n-Go recording, HDMI connectivity and a built-in stereo microphone for capturing high-quality audio to go along with the Full HD video. The Press-n-Go recording function allows you to press a large Start/Stop button just once to begin recording, and the HDMI output lets you display your footage on a large HDTV screen in 1080p Full HD resolution. The two cameras are also outfitted with a Memory Stick Micro and microSD/SDHC memory card slot for recording directly onto a memory card, which you can remove and insert into your computer for editing and sharing movies on the Internet.
No other action camcorder available combines Carl Zeiss optics with a rugged exterior that welcomes mud, snow and water. So if you’re as serious about capturing quality video as you enjoy your sport of choice, then the HDR-AS15 and HDR-AS10 should definitely be considered. Plus, the included waterproof housing and optional mounting possibilities make these two Sony action camcorders flexible and rugged enough for any action sport under any conditions.

as far as I read about the sony cam there is probably much more possible within changing the firmware. i am thinking about changing the lense width, allowing graphics on the addon-lcd screen, maybe changing from ntsc to pal and so on.
does anyone know if it is possible to get an update (if there is one..?!)
oh and does there exist a sony as15-only forum (like one of these many of the gopro)?
As of right now we have not seen any significant firmware updates on the camera. Not sure what Sony's future plans are yet.
As for a forum, I am not seeing a dedicated "AS15 user" forum but on the various video forums people are discussing the camera in some capacity.
This camera is a Joke. There is a long list of fails from the remote, menu, power features, attachments and finally the plan obsolescence of the frames rates this camera belongs in 1992.
Sony claims to shoot at 60 frames per second and 120 fps. They are deliberately trying to fool people that don't know better. This camera only shoots HD at 30 fps. The 60 and 120 modes don't include AUDIO and only can be viewed in slow motion. So really the only thing it does is slow your video down x2 and x4 in case you want to watch paint dry...So stupid!
Oh plus you can't up load the video directly to Facebook. Another epic fail!
Loool, coments like this are great to laugh.
First - the sound record in slowmotion (60fps) or super slowmotion (120fps) --> no offence but stupid are you.
Second - the direct upload to facebook (or you are a kid or a facebook addict), so is the facebook the only sharing online server for videos?? Is there no Youtube, vimeo, etc...
This way, Sony should program this camera to share to all web servers, just lol.
You are a moron.
The whole point of shooting at 120fps is so it can be viewed in slow motion. What an epic fail.
Dear JG.
This camera is not a joke.
It's a quality product designed to take the footage during the extreme conditions.
No camera records the sound while rolling at 120 fps. If you really want the sound use the separate audio recorder. That's how it's done in professional world.
If you want to see the footage in a "normal" speed, then do a little work and edit it in After Effect or FInal Cut Pro. After all you are getting is a raw material which requires some additional work.
You don't complain when you go to the market to buy the veggies but still have to chop them later on and add some salt and paper!
But what am I saying. All you want to do is to let everyone you "know" on a Facebook to see what a splendid joy ride you had from the local mall to your apartment.
You don't need this camera anyways.
I am a professional animator/developer/bike enthusiast and I recommend this camera.
Hi,
many thanks for your input. I am thinking of buying the Sony rather than the Gopro Hero 3 Black. I have read mixed reports on both. Would you recommend the Sony over the Gopro?
Many thanks for your time and help.
Nick
Both are great units for action cam video. The GoPro Black is a step up though in that it does offer the ability to record in 4K, 2.7K, 1440p & 1080p where the Sony is limited to 1080 as it's max resolution. If you feel you will need any of the additional resolutions for your production the GoPro Black would be a camera to consider. If you are just recording in 1080 though both the Sony action cam and the GoPro Black/Silver will work great for you.
Hi, this is a great camera (I have one) and the night capture is far better than the gopro.
Btw, the 2.7K and 4K are great, BUT... both are made only a 15fps (low fps) and the size of the file is huge, if you need to edit it is much more difficult and the camera (gopro) heats a lot in 1080p so in 2.7k or 4k I can imagine is even worse. I think this is something unnecessary cause 1080p even 720p resolutions are great in quality questions and easy to edit :)
In sony hdr-as15 is only one thing I don't like, this have not AV out composite, only hdmi and the expantion connector, and it would be good to have cause I do FPV.
Just got this cam as a gift and trying to charge the new battery. I followed the instructions to select USB power ON but the CHG indicator does not light up. What am I missing here?
Be sure the camera is powered off when connecting it to the computer to charge. Also make sure that the USB port you are connecting to on the computer delivers bus power to connected devices.
It doesn't seem that bad compared to the GoPro 3 series.
What!!!!???? No compatible PAL formats like 25p and 50p Looks like they wont be selling any in Australia, England, Most of Europe, China, India, in fact more than 2/3rds the world! Why would they do that? They just gave GoPro the advantage
Keep using NTSC and Sony`s superstar will keep cheap!
My question is if I can charge the camera Sony HDR-AS15 with a blackberry charger, or a charger samsung s2, since they have the same USB cable?.
Thanks in advance for your response.
You can use a wall charger for the camera as long as it is a Micro-USB into the camera itself.
So jus got one of these. Pretty cool. Straight into water. Great camera and had querys about how it would handle sunset-dusk! Perfect! One question though the little sd card it came with we have almost used the memory up. So... Is there a way we can delete/clear th videos stored on it from the camera itself?
Hello -
Use the "Format" prompt from the camera's Menu to delete/blank the memory card. All data recorded on the memory card will be erased by formatting, and cannot be recovered.
Formatting is the process of deleting all movies in the memory card, and restoring the memory
card to its initial state.
To make the setting, select [SETUP] first.
1 Press the NEXT button to display [SETUP], then press the ENTER button.
2 Press the NEXT button to display [FORMT] (Format), then press the
ENTER button.
3 Press the ENTER button to display [SURE?] while [OK] is displayed, then
press the ENTER button again.
Formatting starts and [DONE] appears when formatting finishes.
To cancel formatting, press the NEXT button to select [CANCL] while [SURE?] or [OK] is
displayed, then press the ENTER button.
NOTE :
****Save important images before formatting.
• Do not perform any of the following operations while formatting.
– Press a button.
– Eject the memory card.
– Connect/disconnect a cable.
– Insert/remove the battery pack. Then press the ENTER button.

When using the Play Memories Mobile app I cannot transfer 1080P video from my AS15 to my smartphone. Play Memories Mobile appears to only work with 720P video. Is this a limitation of Play Memories Mobile?
Hello Pete -
This is most likely a limitation of the app and your phone since the camera captures video at 1080/60p MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (MP4).
Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
Can someone please confirm that i can charge while i'm recording, as in using let's say a usb power pack to get more hours out of the unit!
Thank's for your answer!
Hello -
We have several responses listed below regarding charging while recording. From page 14 of the SONY handbook: "Charging is not possible when the camera is turned on." That said, the recording times via the battery are nothing short of amazing:
Continuous movie shooting time is approximately 13 hours.
In [SLOW] mode, it is approximately 6.5 hours.
In [SSLOW] mode, it is approximately 3 hours
Also:
Notes on long-time recording
• When you continue to shoot for a long time, the temperature of the camera rises. If the temperature
reaches above a certain level, shooting stops automatically.
Leave the camera for 10 minutes or longer to allow the temperature inside the camera to decrease to
a safe level.
• Under high ambient temperatures, the temperature of the camera rises quickly.
• When the temperature of the camera rises, the image quality may deteriorate. It is recommended
that you wait until the temperature of the camera drops before continuing to shoot.
• The surface of the camera may get hot. This is not a malfunction.
Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
Oh, okok thank you for your reply.
But the times you gave me, 13, 6.5 and 3 hours. are those really based on the battery or the memory card? I sadly doubt that the 1000 MaH battery can last 13 hours, but if what you say is true, you're a hero and i'm lucky.
Going to be using these to record my live performances, they outrun gopro in low light performance! but i need to make sure i can record 2-3 hours on each camera, otherwise it will have to be a gopro black with batterypack on it!
Cheers and happy new years
Hello -
Many customers are reporting five hours of continuous recording on one battery under less than optimal conditions. My own experience is that SONY consistently offers the longest running batteries and best power management of any of the camera brands we offer.
Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
On page 25 of the pdf manual, it does state that the camera can be supplied with power from an outside source thru its mini-USB connector. This sorta suggests that if you were to use a battery device like the New Trent iMirror 6000mAh 2A charger as an exterior battery pack, the camera would work okay.
In theory....
Some comments at other sites have mentioned that it is difficult or impossible to use the microphone plug while the underwater housing is being used. Yet without the housing the unit has no tripod mount.
Is there a way around these problems? If being used for non-wet or dirty applications can the camera be put in the housing with the front down and with the microphone cord connected?
Hello Darin -
As far as I know - the camera may only be inserted one way into the case. I am not aware of any practical work around that effectively undermines the original design and function of this camcorder.
Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
Does it allow to charge battery and record at the same time?
From page 14 of the handbook: "Charging is not possible when the camera is turned on."
It does allow charging while recording.
We're using two of these for specialized aerial work and are very pleased with the results, ease of use, and overall performance. We also have the GPs.
Framing through WiFi is realtime.
Our issue is hardwiring Vid out. Looking for a very light Mini HDMI-to-Composie converter. Tiny, or the circuit schematic.
Thanks B&H. Again, great service

Does the actioncam output HDMI LIVE? I'm interested in this for a flight recorder/FPV cam. I use this HDMI converter: ViewHD Universal HDMI to Composite / AV Video Converter, Support PAL / NTSC Standard TVs
Hi,
One thing that i would like to ask, is about the underwater video quality.
as go pro had issues with the curved lens, so does the sony. all underwater video on youtube is blurry...(not because of compression, but because of the curved lens).
i read elsewhere that sony will sell 'replacement' doors for the underwater housing(3 other types actually) , with one of them being with FLAT lens for clear underwater videos.
any info on this and how much it will cost.
furthermore, i would like to state that even that its a good move to supply (actually SELL )the replacement doors, why not offer the chance for someone to buy the housing with his own chosing of door type... another money making opportynity....
Thanks,
George
Hello:
I'm not sure what you mean by "replacement doors" but I will assume you are referring too the ports of coverings for a lens on the hosuing.
Sony’s Action Cam Waterproof Case, Model number: SPK-AS1 is a waterproof case for the Sony Action Cam. Water proof to 197 ft. and is impervious to sand, dirt, dust and mud. An extra-large record start/stop button makes operation easy, even in gloves. Designed with versatility in mind, the housing features a tripod screw thread on the bottom for attachment to the Action Cam handlebar mount, a standard tripod and a variety of other optional accessories. It's perfect for surfing, kayaking, snowboarding, snorkeling and more. There is no option for changing the dome port on the housing nor do I see Sony making this offer.
Go Pro's Dive housing does have a flat port, but generally speaking a flat port will not insure better image quality as opposed to a dome or curved shaped port. The port's effectiveness is dependant on the lens being used and in this case the Go Pro's lens worked better with a flat port than a dome shape.
Hello
Just a little question
Do we keep the stereo sound (and same sound level and quality) when the camera is in the waterproof case?
If not, any possibility to connect an external mic with the case?
Hello -
This camera does have an external mic jack to enable the use of an external microphone for improved audio capture
On the AS15, can the wifi be defeated or turned off?
2.4ghz is nice, but if one is going to use this in R/C applications, it won't do to have the camera interfering with the control radio on the same band.
Wifi can be turned on or off.
can this camera connected to a mac or pc, and send the live video signal directly into some programming applications (such as max/jitter and processing) directly?
Hello,
The live output via HDMI is for viewing only. The USB connection sends only recorded files.
This camera was made for my application, mounted on a backpack pole mount. With the GoPro Hero I had to guess where the camera was pointing when it was on my back. It was a two person job until now. I have the VuPackPole from VuVantage. Now I can put the packback on, gonnect the Wi-Fi and see exactly what I'm going to get when I get home. Also switching modes on the fly; 120 vs 170 lens or slow motion to super slow is awesome. I can also notice the SteadyShot technology is making a difference. I'm sold on it. Rodger Dean
No live VGA output! No good for anyone who uses video link to fly remote control airplanes and multikopers. We'll just have to stick with GoPros.
Currently, I use a GoPro2 & pack 2 extra batteries because we ride our dirt bikes in the forest all day. What are my battery options with this new Sony?
Hello,
According to Sony's site, both the Sony HDR-AS15 HD Action Camcorder with WiFi & HDR-AS10 HD Action Camcorder use the NP-BX1 battery.
I have few important questions (randomly ordered) before purchasing this awesome POV camera...
-1. Will this camera output the real-time live-video-feed through HDMI port or USB port or Composite Video port? I want to use it to our Video-Mixer with a multi-camera setup. Also, the live-video-output should not have any square-focus-frame, info-texts on the screen itself.
-2. How long a fully-charged battery lasts during video-shooting?
-3. How the battery will charge? With an included Battery Charger? Or, we must plug the camera (with battery inserted) itself to the power-point?
-4. Will this camera support 'Live Streaming' (through Wifi) via its Android App, to YouTube, Facebook, etc?
-5. How the video-quality in low-light indoor conditions?
-6. Will it work with PAL system? NTSC and PAL both, selectable from the menu? Or, NTSC only?
-7. The 'Microphone Input' jack is 3.5mm?
-8. The camera itself has a standard tripod mount in-built? Or, only the outer-case has it?
-9. What is the resolution of still pictures? I have read about a 16MP sensor. Will it only take 2MP still photos?
-10. Will '120° (with SteadyShot)' view-angle be a 'Fish-eye'? Or, standard view?
-11. What should be 'Writing Speed' for a recommended microSDHC card? Which one everyone is recommending?
-12. Any idea about the ETA of an external LCD screen, and other additional accessories (what are they in initial phase)?
-13. If it supports 'Live Streaming', then, will it stream HD-sizes only? Or, we can stream at a lower-resolution (like ION Air Pro)?
-14. Extra battery (and an external charger) or an AC Adapter is available? Prices?
-15. What are the sub-features under the 'Wifi' feature? In short, what are the things the Wifi feature can do?
Sorry for asking too many questions. But I think, at least some of these will be helpful to other potential buyers also.
Thanks a lot,
SUCHARITA

If you have additonal questions - please e-mail us: AskBH@BandH.com
Can I use my iPhone's USB power block attached to this camera's USB to charge while on the road without a computer?
Hello James -
I would not recommend using Apple's product for this purpose. Doing so might damage it and the camera. You might consider using a generic adapter like this one - and the included 12 volt adapter can be very handy in your car or boat as well:
Xuma USB Wall & Car Charging Kit with iPod/iPhone Charge & Sync Cable
The cable included with the camera is compatible with the accessory above.
lol, exactly same voltage input/output like iPhone USB wall adapter, just like almost any Android USB wall adapter... but you have to advertise the product you are selling, so of course "it's better"... except it's not. I can't stand this type of nonsense. I used to work for Sony, and I will tell everybody that you can safely charge both, HDR-AS10 as well as HDR-AS15 with USB wall adapter as long as output is 5V.
Dear Mark,
Many thanks for all the detailed answers. After I have gone through your information, here are some more questions I am asking. Please
don't mind.
-1. Apart from HDMI out, is there any RCA out (Composite Cable)? Will both of these have no markings on the screen?
-2. Can this camera works like a USB Webcam, with real-time video feed to PC?
-3. In one 'Hands-on' video, I have heard about the battery will last for about 3 hours. You said about 80 minutes. Which one is correct?
-4. While in action, can this battery be charged through a USB Charger to a Wall Socket?
-5. Can AS-10 model offer same HDMI/Composite live-view-output, without any markings on the screen?
-6. In AS-10 model, how the files will be copied to a laptop/PC, like we will copy from AS-15 to PC with Wifi (without any cable)?
-7. Both the models will have 'exactly' same features, only except Wifi feature in AS-15?
Waiting eagerly,
SUCHARITA
-1. The HDMI output is the only live video output on the camera.
-2. No word yet as to whether this will act as a webcam yet with the USB output.
-3. From the information that we have it is approxiamtely 80 minutes. Until the camera is released that is all we know so far.
-4. No word yet if the battery will charge while in use.
-5. The AS-10 has the live HDMI output as well.
-6. The AS-10 will use the USB port to transfer files to the computer.
-7. The only difference between the models is the addition of Wifi on the AS-15
OK! Thanks for all the answers. Let's hope and count on the release date now!
Dear Mark,
Many thanks for all the detailed answers. After I have gone through your information, here are some more questions I am asking. Please don't mind.
-1. Apart from HDMI out, is there any RCA out (Composite Cable)? Will both of these have no markings on the screen?
-2. In one 'Hands-on' video, I have heard about the battery will last for about 3 hours. You said about 80 minutes. Which one is correct?
-3. While in action, can this battery be charged through a USB Charger to a Wall Socket?
-4. Can AS-10 model offer same HDMI/Composite live-view-output, without any markings on the screen?
-5. In AS-10 model, how the files will be copied to a laptop/PC, like we will copy from AS-15 to PC with Wifi (without any cable)?
-6. Both the models will have 'exactly' same features, only except Wifi feature in AS-15?
Waiting eagerly,
SUCHARITA
Is there an option to NOT use fish eye? big issue for me
The built in lens is 170 degrees wide. There is no way to change it.
Does it allow to charge battery and record at the same time? (for car driving)
Does it allow to continuously record for few hours? (like Contour GPS, which simply creates multiple files for single recording)
Is there any limit how big single recording file can be, i.e. 4GB (meaning: FAT32)?
Hello Jack -
The USB charging port does not allow continuous charging and operation. You can record up to the capacity of the memory card installed. The Kingston 32GB microSDHC Memory Card Class 10 With SD Adapter is the largest card we are recommending currently. We do not know for certain, but probably this SONY camcorder will split files like the Contour etc. which can be easily combined into one larger file in the editing process.
Hi,
Thanks for answers, they've just removed my interest in this camera (I need camera that can record for 4-5 hours, so external power supply and recording at the same time is necessary).
Jack
Well, this picture clearly shows Plug In Power connector.

Looking for a camera primarily for freediving. Why
no underwater footage? Is this a good camera for diving?
The camera with housing is waterproof down to 197ft. When the camera is released there will be more video examples available from users on youtube and vimeo most likely.
Couple of questions.
1) Does the lens rotate?...i.e can the cam be mounted horizontal?
2) Does the HDMI port have live video out whilst recording?
~Mike
Hello Dreamweaver -
This camera may only be oriented vertically. The lens does not rotate. The HDMI output will offer a live view.
the demensions are not specified. Can you give me a ballpark (HxWxD)?
Hello -
Dimensions (WxHxD) 1.0 x 1.9 x 3.2" / 24.5 x 47 x 82 mm
Where can we see example of footage?
Youtube. :)
On Sony's web site:
http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId...
Vario-Tessar suggest a zoom lens but there is no information about it's specs except "170 degrees".
The lens is a fixed lens, no zoom.
Here are the lens specs:
-Lens Type : Carl Zeiss® Tessar® Lens
-Aperture : F2.8
-Focal Length (35mm equivalent) : f=15.3mm, f= 5/8 inch
-Minimum Focus Distance : Approx.1 3/16inch (Approx.30cm)
-Angle of View : 170° (without SteadyShot), 120° (with SteadyShot)
-Focal Distance : f=2.5mm, f=1/8inch
-Steady Shot Mode:Active : 21.3mm
Min focus distance of 1 3/16in is approx 3cm, not 30cm.
Actually my apologies it is the other way around.
Thank you for poitning out the faulty information.
Minimum focus distance: 11.8" (30 cm)
Does it take pictures, too?
It does have a photo mode. It takes photos in JPEG with an effective 2.0 megapixel rating.
Sony, where is timelapse function ? Wake up already.
Does this camera take pictures in set intervals ala GoPro? Been looking for something like this.
It does offer Interval Recording in the photo mode: (5s/10s/30s/60s)
Oh, wait. No video LCD? Just a display? We're going backwards again. Also, it doesn't say the WiFi is live, just for transfer. So, no real-time viewing for aiming, playback, etc? The JVC is looking better again.
The video that accompanies the release of these cameras alludes to using your smart phone or tablet, in conjunction with a Sony app, as a viewfinder and for control of the camera too
I would like to know where you saw the word "viewfinder." I could not.
I saw this on the Sony site:
"Just select the clips and the camera will transfer and compress web-optimized movies and photos without a single cable."
and this:
"Wi-Fi : Send to Smartphone, Control with Smartphone."
Control does not equate to "view."
If you can remote view, I would think they would be shouting about it.
I hope I am incorrect but so far I am just disappointed.
Here is the link to the video where they describe changing the settings of the camera remotely using the Sony app (for Android and IOS), as well as being able to frame up a shot using said app. Comments are made around the 3:15 point ... I would agree with you that you think they would include these capabilities in the print version of the features set?

I did not say that I "saw" the word ... I said that they talk about it in the Sony Blog video. You have to watch the video and listen to the accompanying dialog with you ears, not your eyes.
I did watch it, several times; and yes, I am more visual oriented than aural.
However, I found the answer I wanted on YouTube in a video from "markdotguim" titled "Sony Action Cam Sony HDR-AS15 hands-on from IFA "
It actually shows a live image on a smart phone linked to the camera.
I have also found 2 mentions of "Handheld Grip with LCD Screen."
These 2 functions put me back in the buying mood.
Surprised as well to see the lack of information about viewing live; anyone who has used a POV camera is aware of how simple it is to end up with an hour of footage looking at the ground, sky, or some skewed angle that you did not intend. Often, with biking, skiing, surfing, or other active sports, the camera angle inevitably adjusts whether you like it or not and you need to straighten it "in the field" somehow.
The Sony webpage for this camera states you need the PlayMemories Mobile™ app for this to work. The app itself appears to be readily available and free. Agree that the Youtube video referenced above clearly shows live video. What is not clear, at least to me is, do you need to be on a Wi-Fi network for this to work? Outdoor activities can not be assumed to have wi-fi available (obviously).
So my question summarized; can you wirelessly view "WYSIWYG" (what you see is what you get) live for aiming the camera through the PlayMemories Mobile™ app or some other method when you're away from your router? Or more simply, is there a method for aiming this camera?
The wifi capability on the AS-15 requires an active 802.11 Wi-Fi network in order to work. So both the camera and the phone/tablet need to connect to the network in order to work together.
That's not true. The camera sends out a WiFi-network by itself, so no router is needed.
Thus ie outdoors you can connect directly to the camera.
...although now that I have had a look at the case, I realize JVCs case is only good to 3 meters.Sony's external case is good to 60 Meters!
Yikes!
Hi,
underwater housing, but only useful to keep water out of yur camera.
underwater shots are out of focus....same 'problem' go pro housing had dues to curved lens....
flat lens door replacements are supposed to be sold separately...no info yet though !!!
George
Underwater housings have used domed ports, to improve underwater optics, for years but I believe that under water the image produced using a domed port is a vitual image on the inside of the dome and to ues this image the lens must focus on the inside of the dome i.e. very close. Having read all I can find on this "problem" I think there may be two possible solutions (but I may be wrong) 1. use a flat port instead of the domed one on the housing (possibly on its way from Sony like the GoPro3) 2. if it can be fitted a close up lens between the camera lens and the inside of the housing port may enable the lens to focus correctly on the inside of the dome under water. Someting like an optition's contact lens + 3 to +5 might be an answer.
They should have gone for the full size SD card and made the waterproof housing integral like JVC.
170° lens sounds stupid wide to be useful (presumably adjustable like a GoPro?)At $70 cheaper the Wi-Fi-Less HDR-AS10 seems like a bargain Much smaller in hand than photos suggest Unlike Sony to include useful accessories in the box (missing sales opportunities) unless it's going to go head to head with the competition.
To everyone complaining about the angle of view. It's 170* The view will be a flat, RECTILINEAR shot. Just like the Lumix 7-14. Therefore it will NOT Have the fisheye look.
