Back in college, I learned a term in cinematography class: Mise-en-scene. To sum it up in short, Mise-en-Scene is everything that goes in front of the camera (or affects it) in that particular scene. It has to do with various elements such as the lighting, costumes, backgrounds, foregrounds, positioning, props, etc. Then it hit me: If film crews put so much effort into storyboarding to make sure that everything is perfect, why don't most photographers apply that same careful effort to photography?
The tripod has been an essential piece of gear in the photographer's kit for years. Over the years, different types of tripods (and accessories) have emerged to accommodate the needs of media professionals. Fortunately, we feature almost every type of tripod, for every type of media professional. You name it: big, small, bendy, sturdy, photo, video—we've got it. Not only do we have them on display for you to try, but our professional staff is on hand to assist you, and answer any questions you may have.

Peter Souza is the White House Press Photographer. But he doesn't only capture the major public moments in the life of the President, he also captures the more human and tender times. Many of his photos are on display in an exhibit at The Leica Gallery in NYC entitled, "The Obama Presidency: A Look Behind the Scenes." Though his photos are already showcased on the White House Flickr Account, Peter's work is something that needs to be seen in person to truly be experienced.
About 90 miles from NYC is a playground for scuba divers. Dutch Springs, a limestone quarry, attracts northeast scuba divers to train, practice, try new gear and socialize. Many divers thumb their nose up at diving Dutch. Local wreck divers prefer to dive the changing offshore shipwrecks. Warm water divers are not interested in the cold water and some-what low visibility. That being said many dive shops in the Northeast conduct their training at Dutch, and many divers come here to practice their skills.
Even the tiny boat wreck between the platform and bus could make a dramatic image

I try not to fetishize gear. When you shoot as much as I do, everything loses its luster quickly—figuratively and literally. Cameras, lenses and lights are just the sum of their capabilities, and all that matters is how they'll help you achieve different visions. But my heart still skipped a beat when the updated version of Nikon's 200mm f/2 lens showed up on my doorstep.
The weekend is coming, but something may be stopping you from venturing out (like those of you in California currently experiencing Carmageddon). Not to worry; it's not the end of the world, and you can still have fun at home. Plus, you can exercise your creative muscles and try something new to expand your horizons. Here are a couple of cool projects that you can do at home. Try these out this weekend, and post them in the B&H Photo Flickr Group, which we will browse through and round up some of the most interesting selections in a future posting.
In this quick tutorial video, the experts over at KelbyTraining.com show you how to correct eye color in Adobe Photoshop CS 5. Have you ever photographed someone with an on camera flash and gotten some red eye? Red eye happens when direct flash is used—and often happens with just snapshots from a point-and-shoot. We've all seen these photos on Facebook when our friends take photos of their cat or dog and post them. Using some of the powerful tools in Photoshop, you'll learn more than one way to get rid of red eye that you may not have even thought of or knew about.

Take a look at the major stories in tech new these days and you'll see that Google + is all over it. The service, which is currently on an invite only basis, is looking to become the next big thing in the social media world—looking to rival the current king: Facebook! Many photographers already have a presence on Facebook (both personal and business) so is Google Plus really worth your effort?
Camera bags are items that not only safeguard our tried and true gear, but they're also items that we can't have enough of. As a guy that owns six of them himself, I can attest to this statement. On the second floor of the B&H SuperStore, we have isles of camera bags on display for visitors to try for themselves. Whether you're the backpack lover or want a messenger bag, you're bound to find the right choice for you here.

In today's world of large-capacity memory cards, we tend to snap the shutter button more liberally than in generations previous. Our archives fill up quickly, and we forget about the images that we've shot. Upon registering for 500px.com, I read about their emphasis on including only your best work. Since it was a whole new start for me after having been on Flickr for a while, I booted up the external hard drives in a quest to find hidden gems.
The Brooklyn Bridge—perhaps one of the most iconic and photogenic bridges in NYC, was the location of a recent photo walk/safari hosted by the B&H Event Space. Comprised of seven different way points spread across the general area of the bridge, the event was swarmed by attendees all across the bridge—even on the cloudy day!
