"Manhattanhenge" is the nickname for a unique solar event that occurs only four times a year. Odd as it may seem, the only days of the year in which the sun sets or rises in a position that places it directly in line with the east-west grid of Manhattan is on May 28, July 12th, (except in the occasional year when the Earth's wobble causes it to occur a day later, on July 13th), December 5 and January 8. .
If you’re a female photographer, you’re well aware that most camera straps can be less than comfortable. So to make the lives of photographic women more bearable (figuratively and literally), Black Rapid has introduced the BlackRapid RS-W1 Camera Strap, which was designed specifically for women.

The custom functions in a digital SLR camera are among the keys to unlocking its true potential, but many photographers find them difficult to understand and use. Rudy Winston from Canon delivers a presentation at the B&H Event Space that will simplify the custom functions in EOS digital SLRs by highlighting the most commonly used ones and providing examples of when to use them to obtain the greatest benefits.
June is the hottest, harshest month of the year. The heat and humidity index might be higher in July and August, but light-wise, June is hands-down hotter and harsher. What I'm referring to is the quality of light that washes down upon us as the sun rises to its highest midday point in the sky—and the net effect of all this bright, high-angle light, photographically speaking, is an excess of blue tint and harsh contrast levels.
The Olympus EP2 is the next chapter in exciting PEN line up: Solid controls, all-metal construction, creative Art Filters and HD video recording will appeal to photo enthusiasts and advanced shooters alike. Compact, lightweight and easy to carry, the EP2 is great alternative to a full-size DSLR.
In the right hands, a 14mm ultra wide-angle lens can produce incredibly dramatic imagery, especially travel landscapes and all the tight places you've never quite been able to squeeze into the frame using the kit zoom that came with your DSLR. But ultra wide-angle lenses—especially the faster f/2.8 versions—are often out of the price range of many enthusiasts. Thanks to Bower, you can now crack the 28mm wide-angle barrier for well under $500. How "well" under $500? How'z about $426? Got your attention yet?
This is my third year of teaching night photography workshops in the Mojave Desert with light-painting expert Troy Paiva. The workshops are held at a world-class junkyard called Pearsonville that has hundreds of rare '50s to '70s cars, trucks and buses. We spend three nights under the full moon making long-exposure photographs of classic cars.
When I first laid eyes on the large black ballistic sling case containing the new Nikkor AF-S 200-400/4G ED IF VR II, that little voice in the back of my head started jabbing at me: "You really gonna lug that thing around all day… in this heat… are you nuts?"

In a world of photo gear that's becoming increasingly smaller, smarter, quicker, sleeker and oh-so-techier, it's kind of refreshing to review a line of cameras that are mechanical, don't require calculators to figure "effective focal lengths," are made out of plastic (and wouldn't be authentic if made of anything other than plastic), have lenses that contain nary a single aspheric surface and are guaranteed to break through the veneer of your grumpiest, stiff-necked relatives. They go under a class of photographica called Lomography cameras, and we've got them in all shapes, colors and sizes.

How successful you are at capturing sharp, steady video imagery using HDSLRs can often boil down to the integrity of your HDSLR support system. And as anyone who has tried it can attest to, handheld video with a DSLR is about a dicey as it gets. To help you get a better grip on your HDSLR, the ikan Corporation has introduced the Elements HDSLR support system, which can make a huge difference in the look, feel and overall image quality of your video output.
