 Exactly!!! Bravo!

That's what I keep telling everyone, but they respond like I'm some sort of gear hater. I love great engineering as much as anyone. What I loathe is the camera manufacturers and a few photographers with HUGE followings... who've convinced the general public that they MUST buy, buy, buy the most expensive gear to make moving image. Complete hogwash. 

The photographer's vision is paramount. Believing the camera manufacturers and photographers who're getting paid to say whatever the manufacturers want them to is foolish. If you can't make a compelling image with the most basic of gear, ie. a cell phone... then spending more money on gear you don't need isn't going to help. 

Don't believe the hype! Creativity most often comes from limiting your tools a bit. Many photographers believe what their high-profile "tog" heros say and think they have to shoot only dSLR's if they want to make great images, and that anything else is a toy better left to their children. Don't buy into that nonsense. Use what you have available and use your own creativity. That's all anyone ever needs. 

I spent a month travel blogging in Mexico and wanted to practice what I preach. Spent a month shooting, blogging, making video, and publishing using nothing more than an iphone. Some might argue, but I was plenty content with the results:

All you need is vision and creative desire. Don't believe the mega-popular togs who're carrying water for the gear manufacturers who don't care about your creative growth and only care about selling you what you don't really need.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm really getting tired of reading high-profile photographers who've been bought off my manufacturers to convince folks all they need to make great images is to spend more money and pay for a "photo walk" etc. They're mostly all charlatans. Use what you have available and mostly what you were born with. That's all you really need.
