It's the one thing that's behind it: the mind of the photographer
Great (and generally, cumbersome) equipment, tends to obstruct the mind, the creative flow of the photographer, unless....
He has acquired enough experience and independence on the "knowledge" of his equipment and technique, so he has made an extension of himself (or herself), so everything is done "automatically" without even to process; apparently; in his head.
That independence is what let an artist (call it a Photographer, a musician o whatever other artist, is the same), create freely, without any obstacle to his creativity, than the self.
