Is it Grimace? Is it the Grim Reaper? Nope. It's a prepared location audio professional who is protecting their investment and getting the job done.  This morning on my 10 minute walk from the train to the office, I witnessed a weather anomaly that I'd never experienced before. This is my 18th year as a resident of the Northeastern United States, and I don't know the official stats, but this winter sure seems like one of the worst.

When I emerged from the 6th Avenue subway staircase, the sky was in a downpour. It was freezing cold rain, but the thick sheets of water had a ferocity that could have passed for a summer deluge. By the time I had reached the halfway point of my walk, the precipitation had frozen into large, puffy, cotton ball sized snowflakes. The rainstorm had transformed into a blizzard right before my eyes.

It made me ask myself: if I was going to do an exterior location sound job today, how on Earth would I do it? It was just another reminder that the Petrol Rain Poncho is a must have for my sound kit, and until I get one I won't be fully prepared. Are you ready to work in a shower of slush?
