- Variable 0.4-1.8 Neutral Density Filter
- Reduce Exposure by 1.3 to 6 Stops
- Darkens Entire Image
- Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
The SLR Magic 77mm Self-Locking Variable Neutral Density 0.4 to 1.8 Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter that is designed to mount onto lenses with 77mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 1.3 to 6 stops. The 0.4 to 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with numbers representing different density values and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring. Once the front ring is rotated into a position that corresponds to the desired amount of density, the filter's rear ring can then be turned to lock the front ring into place, helping to ensure consistent exposures.

question
is the side lever/handle removable ( screw on) ?
The lever is totally removable. Mine came off after the 2nd use and by the 4th use, the lever couldn't be screwed back on as the thread has been stripped. I did not use a lot of force in screwing in the lever but it still got stripped. That's a testament to the built-quality of this product. Please consider other brands for your VND.

question
2 questions. 1: lter also be used as a CPL as you can adjust the angle of the filtration. 2: Does this filter have threads on the front of the filter? Answers appreciated.
While both neutral density and circular polarizer filters use polarizing foils, the main purpose of this variable ND filter is to reduce the exposure overall, rather than reducing reflections, reducing glare and saturating colors as a circular polarizer would. As for the threads in front, those would measure 86mm.

Can this filters fit to the Sigma 18-35 mm 1.8 art ? I use camera Blackmagic 6K G2
The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF has a 72mm filter thread, so the SLR Magic 77mm Self-Locking Variable Neutral Density 0.4 to 1.8 Filter (1.3 to 6 Stops) won't fit without a step-down ring like this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1026570-REG/sensei_surp_7277_pro_72_77mm_brass_step_up.html

Is the 86mm (outer) side of this ND filter threaded? Has anyone screwed anything into it successfully? I'm considering an 86mm lens hood.
Yes, the outer side of this ND is threaded and I've attached filters to it before. I assume a lens hood should attach properly but I've never tried it myself.

Will this variable ND filter allow mounting of a clamp-on matte box?
It may not as the mechanism to change the ND filter's strength would be interfered with if a clamp-on matte box was attached. It would not be recommended with this filter.
