Nikon HB-47 Overview

The dedicated Nikon HB-47 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

question

Will this fit a 50mm f1/8?
Asked by: Jane C.
Your answer would depend on which 50mm f/1.8 lens you own, as you did not list the full name or product number above. If you own the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Lens, B&H # NI5018GAF, or the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Special Edition Lens, B&H # NI5018GSE, then yes, the Nikon HB-47 Bayonet Lens Hood for AF-S 50mm f/1.4G will fit onto the lenses. If you own the Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens, B&H # NI5018DAF, then the lens hood would not be compatible; instead, you would have to purchase the Nikon HR-2 Lens Hood, B&H# NIHR2.

question

Is there another hood by Nikon, that would be better at protecting from flair, when the lens (50mmF1.4G) is used on a DX sensor camera? As this becomes an effective 75mm (telephoto) lens then.
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon HB-47 will provide the same amount of protection against flair on a DX format camera as it would on a FX format camera.

question

Will this work on a 50mm f/1.4D?
Asked by: Jiansong C.
I have a 50mm f/1.4G but you are inquiring about a 50mm f/1.4D. From the research I have done, the D that you have requires a different lens hood than my G uses. I believe you need an HR-2 lens hood but please do not take my word for it and investigate this a little further. Hope this has been helpful.
