ASUS 280X overview

  • 1Description

The Radeon R9 280X Graphics Card from ASUS is a graphics card for computers with PCI Express expansion slots, and includes drivers for Windows. The card is designed for gamers and other users running applications that require or benefit from a dedicated graphics card.

The card features a 1070 MHz GPU that has 2048 stream processors, allowing it to perform hundreds of computations simultaneously when using software that supports parallel processing. To move data to and from the GPU as quickly as possible, the card features 3GB of 1.6 GHz GDDR5 RAM with an effective (QDR) clock speed of 6.4 GHz and a 384-bit memory interface.

The card can be connected to a variety of display types, including computer monitors, HDTVs, projectors, and 3D displays. It features an HDMI port with HDCP support, a DisplayPort port, a DVI-I (digital and analogue) port, a DVI-D (digital only port), and a DVI-to-VGA adapter that can be used to connect VGA devices to the DVI-I port. It can drive up to four displays connected directly, depending on the total resolution, and up to six via the DisplayPort output when using Multi-Stream Transport (MST) hubs or displays that support daisy-chaining.

Multi-Display Support
In addition to being able to connect four displays directly to the card, using AMD Eyefinity technology it is possible to drive up to six displays via the DisplayPort output. To do this, one or more Multi-Stream Transport (MST) hubs or monitors with daisy-chaining capability will be required
Stereoscopic 3D Support
Thanks to AMD HD3D you can view 3D content from Blu-ray DVDs, video games, 3D graphics software, and other 3D applications when using the card in conjunction with compatible active or passive 3D displays
Multi-GPU Support
AMD CrossFire technology allows you to combine up to four compatible GPUs using a CrossFire Bridge Interconnect cable to increase total processing power, boosting overall performance
Popular API Support
Supports DirectX 11.2, OpenCL, C++ AMP, DirectCompute 5.0, AMD Stream Processing, AMD App Acceleration, and other APIs to allow compatible software to benefit from GPU acceleration, taking much of the workload off your computer's CPU
AMD PowerTune and ZeroCore Technology
Dynamically regulates power to the GPU depending on usage for lower operating temperatures and less energy consumption; increasing power when needed or reducing it to close to zero when not in use. When using two cards with CrossFire, the second card automatically shuts down when not required
ASUS DirectCU II Cooling System
Alloy components and flattened copper heatpipes designed to reduce power loss, enhance durability, and achieve cooler operating temperatures to help minimize fan noise and extend the lifespan of the card
Utility software that allows for real-time monitoring of GPU performance, provides assistance with overclocking, and can download and install driver and firmware updates
PCI Express 3.0 x16 Support
Provides twice the bandwidth of PCI Express 2.0; for example, an x8 PCI Express 3.0 slot has the same bandwidth as an x16 PCI 2.0 slot. In addition, the card remains backward-compatible with motherboards using earlier generations of PCI Express
