The DLA-RS50U 3D Home Theater Projector from JVC is a 3D-enabled 1080p home theater projector. The DLA-RS50U has a brightness of 1300 lumens. The DLA-RS50 is 3D compatible. JVC uses frame sequential method, which provides a full 1920 x 1080 pixels to each eye without crosstalk and flicker.
The DLA-RS50U is built around an optical engine that produces brighter images with even higher contrast than previous models. An upgraded wire grid polarizer reduces stray light caused by reflections and helps increase the native contrast ratio to 70,000:1.
The projector is a D-ILA projector. This is characterized by natural pixel-free film-like images with smooth gray scales and highly accurate colors, thanks to tightly-spaced pixels and liquid crystal blending.
Lastly, the DLA-RS50U features a motorized lens cover which opens and closes in synchronization with power on / off to protect against dust, so even if the projector is installed up on the ceiling, you are assured of easy, trouble-free operation via the remote control.
D-ILA Imaging Technology
D-ILA, which stands for Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier, is a proprietary form of Liquid Crystal on Silicon. D-ILA projectors are characterized by natural pixel-free film-like images with smooth gray scales and rich, highly accurate colors. D-ILA reflective chips have a smooth, scatter-free display surface with an extremely high aperture ratio. D-ILA chips have no spatial dithering that causes noise in the low black levels. The gray levels are smooth and continuous and replicate the signal levels accurately. Pixels are tightly spaced and liquid crystal blending gives a film-like image that no other technology can replicate
70,000:1 Contrast Ratio
The DLA-RS50 is built around a newly designed optical engine that produces brighter images with even higher contrast than previous models. An upgraded wire-grid polarizer reduces stray light caused by reflections and helps increase the native contrast ratio to an amazing 70,000:1. "Native contrast ratio" refers to the intrinsic ability of the projector to show the complete range of image contrast simultaneously, in every frame. There is no dynamic iris to artificially inflate contrast specifications. This is important because it allows the blackest levels of the image to be shown with the bright high lights
3D Capable for the Ultimate Home Viewing Experience
The DLA-RS50 is 3D compatible. JVC uses Frame Sequential Method that provides a full 1920 x 1080 pixels to each eye without crosstalk and flicker. Images are so realistic and so natural-looking that it's like being pulled into the scene. With the frame sequential method, separate left-eye and right-eye images are alternated and require active shutter glasses (optional) to perceive the image correctly. An IR emitter (purchased separately) is required to synchronize the glasses. The emitter has a 33' (10 m) range and IR signals may be aimed directly at the audience or reflected off the screen. 3D signals are provided via Blu-ray (frame packing) or set-top box (side-by-side, top and bottom)
7-Axis Color Management System
The DLA-RS50 features a new 7-Axis Color Management System which interpolates R,G,B,C,M,Y, and orange individually. It allows adjustment of color phase, chroma saturation, and brightness. By adding orange to the Color Management System, JVC has succeeded in expanding the color range. This ensures reproduction of neutral color which is normally difficult to reproduce. It is easy to set the color for adjustment by moving color axes. Adjustment is made easier by displaying only color for adjustment. Additionally, up to three customized color settings can be stored for future use
Film Tone Mode Function
Film Tone is a high performance function, which allows brightness adjustment while maintaining film quality. Previously, adjusting the brightness resulted in the black level floating. JVC has solved this issue by developing the Film Tone function. This allows brightness adjustment while automatically balancing Gamma and Contrast levels. This maintains film quality without complex adjustment. There are 32 settings for brightness that allow very precise adjustment
Easy Gamma Adjustment Function: Dark / Bright Level
Dark/Bright level allows easy gamma adjustment without complex gamma operation. It allows users to enhance black or adjust brightness, and to adjust individual red, green and blue levels for perfect white balance
Screen Adjustment Mode
As the quality of projected images varies depending on the type of screen and its RGB reflective characteristics, JVC D-ILA projectors have screen adjustment modes that enable users to select the optimum mode to match screen characteristics for more natural and balanced color reproduction. Users may select from 99 modes to match their specific screen characteristics
120Hz Clear Motion Drive
Clear Motion Drive's high-precision interpolation algorithm enhances the precision of picture-character detection to generate an accurate intermediate frame even for images with rapid movement. Whether broadcasting signal or movie content, viewers can enjoy smoother and clearer images with reduced motion blurring. JVC has upgraded this function with an improved interpolation algorithm along with black frame insertion
Compatible HDMI v.1.4a
The DLA-RS50 features two HDMI ver.1.4a interfaces compatible with 3D, 1080/24p input and Deep Color. It is compatible with the mandatory 3D formats contained within the HDMI 1.4a specification:
1080p @ 23.98/24Hz - Frame packing (Blu-ray movies)
720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Frame packing (gaming)
1080i @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Side-by-side
720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Top-bottom
1080p @ 23.97/24Hz - Top-bottom
In addition, both interfaces are CEC (Consumer Electronic Control) compatible, which allows communication with external devices to enable the control of one-touch play, system standby, etc. Wide HDMI cables can be also inserted simultaneously side by side, and are compatible with HDMI cables equipped with screws for a stable, fixed connection
HDMI Input Level Function
HDMI input level allows the user to check input HDMI level by displaying four different samples: Standard (16-235), Enhanced (0-255), Super white (16-255), 0 level on screen. It enable users to check easily when the signal is incorrectly detected
Motorized Lens Cover
The DLA-RS50 features a motorized lens cover which opens and closes in synchronization with power on/off to protect against dust, so even if the projector is installed up on the ceiling, you are assured of easy, trouble-free operation via the remote control
The DLA-RS50 is supplied with terminals for HDMI, trigger, remote control and LAN. A built-in Web server provides remote control functions via any personal computer (or hand held device) on the local area network. RS-232C allows for control by leading commercial external controllers. A trigger terminal is provided that signals an optional anamorphic Lens to stretch the screen to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio
Motorized Lens Offsets for Easy Set-up
The motorized ±80% vertical and ±34% horizontal lens shift function enables far more flexibility in setting up the projector as it allows the projected picture to be easily moved horizontally or vertically. In addition, the 2x motorized zoom and focus lens - with throw distances of 9.8-20' (3-6.1 m) for the 100" display - simplifies tedious zoom and / or focus adjustment
Inverse Telecine (Reverse 2-3 Pulldown)
To display TV broadcasts or commercially available DVDs created using the 2-3 pulldown process, the inverse telecine function re-converts the video source back to a 24 fps signal and displays it at double speed or 48 fps, ensuring cinema-like viewing faithful to the original source
