A workhorse of a lens, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is an L-series telephoto zoom characterized by its bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture and optical image stabilization. The fast maximum aperture affords greater control over depth of field and benefits working in low-light conditions while the Image Stabilizer compensates for four stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. As an L-series lens, this 70-200mm also features a sophisticated optical design that uses five ultra-low dispersion elements and one fluorite element to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity. Also, a Super Spectra coating has been applied to help reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color neutrality.

Complementing its optical assets, this 70-200mm f/2.8 also sports a ring-type USM and internal focusing mechanism for quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance, as well as full-time manual focus override. Additionally, this lens is weather-sealed for use in trying environmental conditions and it has a removable rotating tripod collar to benefit working atop a tripod or monopod.

"Spot On...A beauty...I shoot Bald Eagles and action sports and when I compared how many photos were lost due to lack of quick focus with my Sigma lens compared to my Canon 100-400 L lens I knew I had to bite the bullet and pay the extra to upgrade and get Canon's 70-200 2.8 and I have absolutely no regrets!!...I suppose there is no reason to repeat all of the rave reviews that this lens gets, but I took the same route that many of us have tried, I ordered two copies of the Sigma 70-200 OS HSM F2.8 lens, which is half the price, and I think that lens did a very nice job in good light at around f 5.6, no complaints."

"pro lens...wow Lens...Pictures are very sharp but not perfect.Daylight pictures are very very sharp and perfect yes I would recommend this lens if you can afford it and I would buy it again. This is going to be my main walk around lens.Of all the Canon L lenses that I own,and I own seven. The sharpest lens is the Canon Ef 100 mm f/2.8 L macro IS usm lenes.Tack sharp, this is only my opinion....I have watched a lot of user reviews and I do believe this lens will not be the best if you are shooting video, given the lack of IS (unless you are shooting with a tripod), but surprising, I am getting sweet handheld shots, even though I am sure I don't have the steadiest hands in the world!"

"Spot on...Nice pic...I got this lens while on a month long trip to the US, and I was very glad I did, the easy of use and wide angle provided was great as I went to Vegas, The Grand Canyon, LA and NY...You could fit so much on the frame, I loved it....I was very surprised with the quality of this lens, it's actually sharper them my 70-200 and 24-70, I use it mostly for landscape and bmx photography, I don't normally use uv filters I normally just use the lens hood but I think a filter is a must to protect this lens."
