The unit can be run as a stereo 2-way, switchable to mono 3-way, 24dB per octave electronic crossover and is housed in a single rack space chassis. Also included are a 200:1 tuning range, output mute switches, and both 1/4" TRS phone and XLR connectors. The XR1001 features low distortion, active balanced inputs, a peak level indicator, a precision regulated power supply and protection against abnormal input or output conditions.
The response control adjusts the damping of the filter, affecting the response shape of the filters at the crossover point. The dial calibrations refer to the amount of attenuation effected by the filter at the crossover frequency, i.e., a setting of 3dB means that the filter's high-pass and low-pass outputs are each "rolled off 3dB at the crossover point". This describes a Butterworth filter response, or a gentle 3dB peak at the crossover point when the two filter output signals overlap.
To obtain a flat signal, or "Linkwitz-Riley" response through the crossover region on the XR1001, the response control should be set to "6". This attenuates each output of the filter by 6dB at the crossover point (two identical signals added together yield a +6dB increase). To obtain a notch at the crossover point, the response control should be turned down past "6". The purpose of this control is to help offset the inaccuracies inherent in typical loudspeakers, thereby helping you to achieve a flat system response.

The CX3400 V2 provides three modes of operation: 2-way stereo, for left and right lows (woofers) and highs (tweeters); and 3-way stereo, for left and right lows, mids, and highs; and 4-way mono, for lows, low-mids, high-mids, and highs. The front panel is equipped with an easy to read LED matrix, so you can see at a glance which modes have been selected and which controls are active.
Furthermore, the CX3400 V2 includes a switchable pre-EQ for CD horns that ensures a flat-frequency response before equalization is applied. This raises the signal gain by 3 dB at 3.5 kHz, increases a 6 dB/octave up to 22.5 kHz, and provides consistent dispersion over the entire CD horn frequency range.
In stereo mode, the CX3400 V2 can be switched to "mono bass" mode. The LF signals in the left and right channels are summed together and then routed to the channel 1 low-output connector. This connector can be used to drive your active subwoofers, passive subwoofer power amplifiers, or lighting controllers. The low-sum output is presented in mono, since people perceive extremely low-bass frequencies as being omnidirectional.

Fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley filters guarantee in-phase outputs at all frequencies which is mandatory for the proper acoustic summing of common signals from adjacent drivers in the crossover region.
Each channel features input level, high and low output level and crossover frequency rotary controls. A frequency "x10" switch is provided for varying the crossover frequency from the standard 80Hz - 920Hz to 800Hz - 9200Hz.
Front panel output mute switches are provided for each individual output to ease system setup. The rear panel features XLR and active balanced 1/4" TRS input and output connectors as well as a 2-way/ 3-way mode selector switch. The 310 has an internal power supply.

Each channel features independent high and low output level controls and a crossover frequency rotary control which covers a wide range of 250Hz to 6kHz.
