To augment the optical performance, the scope offers matching mechanical features as well. Its large (6.1 x 5.5") square specimen stage provides full motion control in two dimensions via Vernier adjustments, and a lockable slide bracket. You can obtain bright and high-contrast images using its bottom 20W halogen lamp illumination system, a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser, and a built-in iris diaphragm. For obtaining precise image sharpness, the scope provides both coarse and fine focusing, adjustable using the coaxial knurled knobs with precision graduations.

An integral part of the illumination system are an Abbe condenser with an in-and-out auxiliary lens, an iris diaphragm, a polarizer, and a filter holder. The entire condenser assembly has a height adjustment, while the auxiliary condenser lens can be centered to regain alignment by way of external screws. To meet the requirements of polarization microscopy, the round metal stage rotates 360° and has a degree scale along the circumference that permits accurate positioning and achieving a proper orientation of a sample. It can be raised or lowered with the height-adjustment knob and centered via centering screws to ensure an on-axis rotation of your sample. For implementation of polarized light microscopy, the head contains a swinging in-and-out analyzer with graduations, and for conoscopy, it has a removable Bertrand lens and a slot for phase components like phase retarders, wave plates, and wedges.
Other highlights of this tool are its coarse and fine focusing with 2µm minimum increments, a tension ring, and a stop knob. In order to take photos or videos of your discoveries, you will need to connect a camera to a third optical tube and switch from a viewing mode to a photo mode. Should you decide to upgrade this microscope to conduct phase contrast studies as well, it can be achieved with the optional Bresser Phase Contrast Set 5942750.

The optical system features three 10x eyepieces - one with an integrated pointer in the binocular set - placed in a 30°-angled binocular head, a third identical eyepiece set in the center of the head pointing straight up, and a four-objective 360° rotating turret with click-stop positions at each lens. Four objectives from 2x to 40x produce a broad magnification range of 20x to 400x making this microscope a versatile observation tool. Its achromatic glass objectives are designed to correct for chromatic and spherical aberrations in the center 60% of the field of view, so images have a true color representation with virtually no distortion at the central point of observation. If users need to change or replace objectives, Ken-a-Vision designed them to DIN standards to enable parts from many manufacturers to be installed without the need for modifications.
The microscope features a floating stage with spring-loaded specimen clips that offers a deeper working distance than the more common fixed-stage. Specimens are lit from below with an LED and an additional LED is set above the stage for use when observing solid or opaque specimens that require them to be lit from the top. The LEDs are powered by either the included power adapter or permanently installed rechargeable battery pack. There are two independent rheostats providing control of each LED intensity, and to help control the amount of light illuminating the specimen from below is a built-in condenser on the stage. This multifunction adjustability enables precise illumination for the perfect image.

"fun to use...Great deal....I have not had much time to get the best images but this scope works very easily and was up and running in no time....It's a cool camera, gets great maginification... The manual focus seems to snap into place, even if it snaps it out of focus I took two videos of the dissection of a one-of-a-kind specimen."See more

"I recommend it....Very good product...My girlfriend had some bugs for me to look at, first I got a little 5X magnifier with a light. Not strong enough. Then I tried a 60-100X hand held microscope....It was a great gift at a great price."See more
