Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Overview

  • 1Description

The Tamron SP AF10-24mm f/3.5 -4.5 Di II is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens. Di II means that is designed for exclusive use on digital SLR cameras with smaller-size imagers (APS-C/DX). Boasting a focal length range of 10 - 24mm, (the 35mm equivalent of 16mm to 37mm) this lens has a varied range of applications for creating dramatic images as it features both ultra-wide and semi-wide angle settings.

The close focusing capability of this lens enables image capture with an exaggerated perspective at the 10mm ultra wide-angle end or with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5 at the 24mm semi-wide-angle. It has Micro Motor to ensure precise and smooth auto focusing.

Note: Tamron SP AF10-24mm f/3.5 -4.5 Di II is not designed for conventional cameras or digital cameras with image sensors larger than 24mm x 16mm

Captures Ideal Range of Focal Lengths With D-SLRs
Since the size of 35mm film format is larger than the image sensor generally used in D-SLRs, a digital camera captures a narrower angle of view than a 35mm film camera even at the same focal length settings. This lens, made exclusively for digital SLR cameras, provides ideal focal lengths to cover the range desired by DSLR shooters.
Fits Smaller-Size Imagers
This lens is designed so the size of the lens' image circle matches that of smaller-size image sensors. In the compact design, it is almost comparable to a lens offering the same angles of view in 35mm film format. 1
Aspherical Lens Elements
The optical system within this zoom lens uses three large-aperture glass-molded aspherical lenses, as well as three hybrid aspherical lenses, which minimize spherical aberrations, coma, and distortion.
Minimum Focusing Distance Across Zoom Range
The close focusing capability of this lens enables the capturing images with an exaggerated perspective at the 10mm ultra wide-angle end or shoot with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5 at the 24mm semi-wide-angle setting with the freedom to create close-ups at the minimum focusing distance of 0.24m throughout the zoom range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very handy lens This is a very useful lens, delivering true wide-angle performance on a crop-sensor DSLR. Performance is on-par with the rest of the Tamron gold-ring line-up. Not perfect, but delivers great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse lens! I've shot about 400,000 shots through this lens and just now replacing. Mechanically the lens is fine I just have some dust inside the lens and figured I needed to replace. This lens has outlived 2.5 camera bodies!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yep. I love it too! Definitely worth the money. Best for interior photography when you need to fit everything in one shot. (And it makes the room appear 10x larger.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bargain I recently purchased this 10-24mm Tamron lens from B&H to complement my 18-270mm Tamron. My first use was on a 4-day visit to San Antonio, TX. I was very pleased with the sharpness both indoors and outdoors. It was a great lens for shooting the interiors and exteriors of the Spanish missions in San Antonio as well as other sites. It performed well in low light situations, including some exquisite shots from the top of the Tower of the Americas at sunset. I consider the 10-24mm Tamron to be a really great buy for the advanced amateur photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Lens - Super Wide Angle Bought this wideangle lens for my Canon 7D. It produces sharp images and super-wide angle shots that I am unable to get with my other lenses. Perfect for indoors in tight areas as well as outdoors for landscapes. Very happy with the sharpness and colors. Definitely would recommend this lens to anyone looking for an inexpensive addition to their collection. It's my new favorite!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wide angle! This is a great lens for indoor shots like parties where a 24 is just not quite wide enough. It works well for night shots like star trails/Milky Way too. At 10, it is wide with little fish eye effect. This is a fun lens to use. Focus is quiet and seems fast. If you're wanting an economical wide lens, you won't be disappointed in this lens at all. You certainly won't regret purchasing it.

    question

Is this the newest upgrade for the Tamron 10-24 lens?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. This is the latest incarnation. Make sure you are purchasing it for a crop sensor. It's a fantastic lens. You can use it on a full frame sensor, but you'll have to keep it above 15mm. On a crop sensor you'll be amazed.

    question

If I have a canon mount for my Samsung NX1, will this work? Are there any drawbacks?
    Asked by: Anonymous
It should work fine; the NX1 is an APSC sensor and with a Canon mount, barring any offset from the physical dimensions of the mount itself, you shouldn't have any issues. This lens is great for APSC sensors. Wish there was an equivalent for full frame that didn't cost a fortune!
