Nikon DSLR Cameras - Information

The wide range of Nikon DSLRs make it easy to find a quality camera for a beginner, hobbyist, or professional photographer.

Difference Between Nikon DX and FX DSLRs

The DX series includes the brand's cropped-frame DSLRs, while the cameras in the FX series have full-frame sensors. DX units are smaller and easier to carry and handle. They use APS-C sensors and offer a gentler learning curve than FX units. FX models have larger sensors and capture photos at higher resolutions. They also perform better in low light and have more complex features.

Nikon also makes specialty DSLRs like the Df, a vintage-styled unit with knobs and dials. There's also the D810A, built for astrophotography.

Can I Use Nikon SLR Lenses with My Nikon DSLR?

Most Nikon SLR camera lenses will work with comparable DSLR models. Non-AI lenses are incompatible with all models except the Df. The brand's AI lenses are fully compatible with its high-end cameras, but you'll need to adjust exposure manually when using them with entry-level models. AF lenses work with DSLRs with focus motors, while AF-S and AF-I lenses have built-in motors and work with all models.

Nikon SLR teleconverters work with DX and FX series DSLRs. A teleconverter is a secondary lens that sits between the camera body and the objective lens. It extends the focal length of the primary lens and magnifies the center of the image.

Essential Nikon DSLR Accessories

Power adapters and rechargeable batteries are must-haves to keep your DSLR powered and ready to shoot. A case is another essential that keeps your valuable gear protected from drops and bumps. Caps and covers prevent dust and scratches from harming lenses. For flash photography, consider Nikon speedlights. These shoe-mounted TTL systems extend the capabilities of built-in flash units. If you're going to be filming a lot, add-on microphones will significantly improve sound quality, while memory cards increase storage capacity.

Shoot ultra-high-definition videos and amazing stills even in low light with Nikon's excellent DSLRs. Browse the extensive selection of Nikon digital cameras at B&H Photo and Video to find the best DSLR for your needs.
