Nikon D850 Overview

Nikon D850 Reviews

I love this Camera!

I upgraded from the Nikon D600 to the D850 and I'm so impressed with this camera. I've had my eye on it for several years, and finally decided to up my game since I recently retired and can now focus more on my photography. I love the quality and functionality the D850 brings to the table. I especially love the tilt-screen, my knees are not too kind to me anymore, so this feature helps me to achieve the perspective and composition I want. The in-camera focus stacking is simply perfect, eliminating the need for 3rd party devices. This also goes for the in-camera option for timelapse and exposure smoothing. I coupled this with the MB-D18 battery grip, and EN-EL18C Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, and XQD Memory Card so I can now take advantage of the 9 fps rating.. it sounds like a machine gun while shooting in continuous! I can't recommend this camera enough!

A camera that is still #1 and does it all at a PRO level!

I dabble in Astrophotography, take photos of the animals on the farm, family photos and landscapes of the beautiful area I live. I wanted to invest once, not get a daytime camera then invest in the money pit that is Astrophotography and did not want to invest all my $ into a purpose-built single use astrophotography rig. This camera was the logical choice and sound investment. Capturing images at 45MP is the cure to those that are crop crazy, and still have amazing images from this full frame camera. There are a ton of great deals on lenses for this camera. Lots of training and free EASY tutorials. I was new to photography and never had a real camera like the D850, the learning curve is short and easy with the on-line help that abounds out there!! B&H Support is always there for you if you need it.

An upgrade I should have made sooner!

My first full-frame Nikon dslr after using an older crop sensor for many years (D200). Wish I bought this sooner. Great photos!

Great camera, love it.

I had been doing photography for 20+ years from Slide film to Digital. I'm using only fixed lenses 24mm, 28mm, 58mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, 105mm micro, 180mm f/2.8, 300mm f/4, and an exception 35-70mm f/2.8 : ). My daughter doesn't want my nikon mirrorless Z6 and she took my D700 (that I use w/ nikon extra battery can go up to ~ 8 frames/sec) thus I have to buy this d850. . w/ the tripod, I tested out the d850 w/ 24mm again the Z6 w/ 24-70mm f/4 for Xmas lighting, both are ~ same (the z6 color are slightly better but insignificant). I tested w/ 300mm f/4 and I'm very happy w/ the resolution. . I'm a low tech person and only use spot metering (not try the new focus feature ... bhla bhla ... yet, : ) but I'm very happy w/ the d850. . Also, I'm B&H customer for 20+ years and I'm very happy w/ B&H.

I Made the Right Choice!

The D850 is the perfect camera for me. I loved my 750 but was ready for an upgrade. The 850 is exceeding my expectations. From the touch screen to the 45.7 megapixels, it's everything I wanted.

Even better than expected

Color rendition, speed, and resolution are all excellent. I rented a D850 for a trip to Alaska, then bought one immediately on return. It exceeds my very high expectations. My previous cameras were Nikon D800, D300, and F6. All great in their time. I have no regrets about buying the D850, even with mirrorless advancements. Even when I purchase the Z9, I'll keep the D850 as a backup for a long time.

I am a bit of a Nikon fan, I admit. I have used Nikon cameras since about 1976. The D850 is easily my favorite. It IS a heavy beast but that is an advantage because it takes the shakes out. It is also built like a tank. I do baby my cameras but I did accidentally drop this one from about 4ft onto a cement floor. It was in a camera bag but the lens on it was pretty badly damaged. The body was unharmed. Aside from it's mechanical features, the D850 takes outstanding photos. I have included one here but it is only a sample. I have had the camera for years and have been very happy with the color, bit depth, and resolution. I liked it so much I bought a second one.

I don't understand why the panel spoke about the lack of wear on the shutter in time-lapse, but FAILED to say exactly how many shoots the shutter is tested to. Usually about 150.000-200,00, on a model like this. So, how many?
Asked by: Geoffrey
The shutter is rated for 150,000-200,000 shutter actuations.

I currently own the Zeiss Milvus 21 mm and 35 mm f/2 lenses. They both work fine with the D850, but they are manaul focus only (as all the other Zeiss lenses for Nikon DSLRs). No trouble focusing at infinity.
