    Canon WP-DC52 reviews

WP-DC52 Waterproof Case for PowerShot G16 is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Housing leaked on first dive! As a previous user of the G12 and housing with no problems, I took my new G16 out for my first dive with the WP-DC52 housing and it leaked, killing the camera and ruining the rest of my diving experience! I have been since told that i should have taken the housing out on it's own with a piece of tissue inside to check it's integrity. Although I am suprised that items are sold which are not fully tested! What's happend to quality control. Not sure which camera/housing to buy now, very nervous and money sensitive now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nearly Perfect Overall.... love this thing. Easy to use, well thought out, invisible to the camera. Pros: -- Everything you could want (most of the time) in an underwater housing. -- Solid and extremely functional. I have also used this housing in dusty environments to try to give my camera a break. -- Excellent build quality. -- Allows for surprisingly good internal flash shots. Cons: -- Buttons not marked clearly. Some labels are embossed in clear plastic, which makes them a bit hard to read. -- No control for the rotary wheel on the front of the camera. Somewhat of a mystery as to why Canon didn't include this control since it makes it difficult or impossible to change some of the camera settings. -- flash diffuser clips on in a somewhat whimsy way. Seems easy to lose or break. -- Mystery part that clips over the flash area of the housing. Not mentioned in the instructions as to what this thing is or what it does.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flooding Dampens Everything I'm giving this 4 stars because I'm not sure if it was the housing or user error (me) that caused the flood the 3rd time I shot with this. I was very pleased with this housing and the G16 until that moment. My G16 sat on the boat deck for the next week in a bag of rice with high hopes. When I returned to NY I brought it in for repair, and was told that it wasn't worth the cost to fix. Provided my housing wasn't the problem I'll be getting another G16. I like the feel of this housing. It's a natural transition from using Canon DSLRs on land to how it feels in the water. I wish it were easier to see the controls underwater, but with more use that will become natural. I would prefer that the manual settings were easy to adjust underwater, but things need to be set up in Program mode prior to use. I'm yet to master that as I've only used it on 3 dives. As far as the Mystery Clip mentioned in Mabou2's review. It's unfortunate that no information on how to use it or what it's for is included. The fact that it came with the housing in the first place is great though, because it's used when connecting a strobe. The body actually lends itself well to adding accessories for underwater photos. I was able to mount a tray on the tripod mount for a one arm Sea Life strobe. The fibre optic cable from the strobe is pulled through the Mystery Clip that clip covers the flash. The flash triggers the strobe. In the past I borrowed a G12 with Canon housing, that's why I decided to get the newest version when I bought underwater gear. Compared with other underwater housing this price is unbeatable. However, winding up with a flood has made me nervous to continue using the Canon housing line in the future. Perhaps it was my fault. I'll update my comments when I take it diving again to test.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Check your Housing First Used the housing 3-4 times without a problem, on the 5 time it developed a small leak around the front port. Quit using the housing and sent it to Canon for repair or replacement. Have not heard back from them yet. Seems this is a common problem with all the WP-DC52 housings. I would recomend spending the extra money and buying an Ikelite housing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be careful...boat fuel and this housing are catastrophic A tiny amount of outboard fuel touched the clasp and fittings and have completely wrecked this housing. Select another housing
