Focusrite 2i2 Overview

The Focusrite Musician's Home Recording Starter Kit from B&H is designed to provide the tools you need to begin recording to your DAW. It includes the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface, an Audio-Technica AT2020 large-diaphragm condenser mic, an Audio-Technica AT2021 small-diaphragm condenser mic, a pair of closed-back headphones, a 49-key USB MIDI controller, 2 tripod microphone stands with fixed booms, a round pop-filter with gooseneck, and two XLR microphone cables.

The Scarlett 2i2 is a 2-in and 2-out USB interface, capable of recording both included mics simultaneously. It can track your audio in sample rates up to 96 kHz in 24-bit quality. You can monitor your recording and playback via the included closed-back headphones. The included AT2020 large-diaphragm condenser and the AT2021 small-diaphragm condenser allow you to mic a variety of sources, including vocals, percussion, acoustic guitars, and more while the pop filter will keep your performances free of plosives. The two tripod mic stands and XLR cables provide flexibility in setup and use. With the 49-key USB MIDI controller you can trigger virtual instruments or any other USB MIDI compatible software.

Is there a bundle code somewhere? How do I access the software supposedly included in this purchase? My purchase does not have a bundle code on the only box it came in...which is unlabeled brown box.
Asked by: Heather
The easiest way to get the bundled software is by registering your device. From what I have heard, it is also possible to download the software without registering it, but I did not try that way, so I can't be certain it works. Goid luck!

Is it possible to choose whether to have the audio come from the monitor outputs or the headphone output? On my Focusrite Solo it sends audio through both ports at the same time and you can't choose one or the other which I find odd.
Asked by: Derick
Audio outputs are balanced to feed amplifiers. Headphone outputs are for headphones. I suppose you could use an adaptor and drive an amp from the monitor output. Start with low volume so nothing blows.

Will this work with an iPad Pro?
Asked by: Gayla
You need to have it plugged into a computer in order for it to receive power and actually send a readable audio signal in any direction. I've tried plugging the Scarlet 3rd gen into a wall, as well as into an iPhone directly via different cables in order to give it power and nothing worked. I actually liked your question so much that I decided to run a quick test and I have REALLY good news! I plugged my iPhone 11 Pro into the computer via 1/4" to 3.5mm TRS cable (adapted to iPhone via Apple's dongle [the 1/4" end goes into the Scarlet, and the 3.5mm x Lightning into the iOS device), and proceeded to play a song. and I was easily able to receive a healthy signal! So technically you CAN make this work with iOS devices, provided you use the method I have. Thanks so much for your question, you just opened my eyes to some new possibilities!

Do these work for streaming?

Do these work for streaming?
Asked by: Benjamin
Yes these do. I have a Rode Procaster plugged into my 2i2 3rd gen via an XLR cable, and I use it to stream on OBS. It works wonderfully and the output is extraordinarily clean. I simply have to connect the USB to my computer and then I can select the Focusrite 2i2 USB from the audio inputs in the software. As with any microphone connected to a computer, you can also use it for Zoom calls, Google Hangouts, and any other location where you might need a microphone input.

Can I use the Hosa Technology HPR-0010X2 Dual ...

Can I use the Hosa Technology HPR-0010X2 Dual 1/4" TS Male to Dual RCA Male Stereo Audio Cables to connect the Focusrite Scarlett 212's two 1/4" TRS Balanced Outputs to the Edifier R1280T 2-Way Powered Bookshelf Speakers' inputs?
Asked by: William
There are two main differences between consumer audio and pro audio, unbalanced vs balanced, and signal level of -10 dBv and +4dBu. Although this will plug in you would be throwing away both of the pro advantages. In addition, it becomes very easy to overwhelm the speaker's input if the 2i2 is not turned down. A better solution would be a pair of JBL studio monitors, like the 306P. And then connect them with a cable with 1/4" TRS male to XLR male. This retains both of the pro benefits.

Does it come with any cables, or would I have to buy those separately?
Asked by: Cameron
The main unit comes with a usb type B to A cable to plug the 2i2 into your computer. You will need to purchase quarter inch cables to connect external monitors, and XLR/ quarter inch cables to connect Microphones or instruments.
