Senal SMH-1200 Overview

  • 1Description

The burgundy version of the SMH-1200 Enhanced Studio Monitor Headphones from Senal is tuned for accurate music reproduction and studio monitoring. With a closed-back, over-the-ear, foldable design and features like interchangeable twist-locking cables, extra deep ear cushions, and a refined musical frequency response, the SMH-1200s are suitable for both audio professionals and enthusiasts.

Using 40mm Neodymium drivers, the headphones deliver a wide frequency response of 10 to 20,000 Hz with minimal distortion, a slightly boosted low end for well-defined bass and sub-bass, a smooth and pronounced midrange, and a clear intelligible high end. The extra deep ear pads provide comfort while wearing the headphones for extended listening sessions and help passively isolate the sound from external noise.

Physically the SMH-1200s are designed to be robust and appropriate for use with professional audio equipment such as mixing consoles and headphone amplifiers. Their 58-ohm impedance can also operate with lower-power devices such as smart phones or MP3 players for mobile listening. Color-matched elements combine for an elegant look.

They come with two twist-lock detachable cables that can be easily swapped depending on the application. The coiled cable can extend from 4 to 10 feet and is intended for studio use. The 4-foot, tangle-free, fabric cable includes an in-line microphone for phone calls and a control button for operating smart phones and other mobile devices. A wide range of accessories is supported.

To ensure years of reliable operation, the earcups feature wire guides to protect the cabling and maintain the performance of the SMH-1200.

Note: Due to variations in cell phone manufacturing, the included mobile cable may not work on all models of cell phones. For full functionality on Android phones, a third-party app such as Headset Button Controller may be required.

    Senal SMH-1200 Reviews

SMH-1200 - Enhanced Studio Monitor Headphones (Burgundy) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Headphones, with a minor flaw I got these on a B&H flash deal to replace my old AT Mk2s that were falling apart. I was very pleased with the sound quality as it was similar to the ATs with a little more a flat response.  However, my only beef is with the cable. Im used to the ATs which solidly thread lock into place, as opposed to these which use a 2.5mm click in lock. I dont know if its the design or what, but both cables short out if I turn my head a certain way, and I have to fiddle with the cable to get one side or another from doing it.  Its a real annoyance, and if there were no issues with it I would gladly give 5 stars. Maybe its just my version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST HEADPHONES FOR THE PRICE! So my name is Travis Jacques AKA The Raw View. I have a lot of headphones in this $150 price range and I have to say that theses headphones tower over them all. M-50x< SMH1200 They have a great sound and are over all flat and that slight bumb in the bass is very very slight, it less than the M-50x. I A/B theses headphones against the m50x, Sony MDR-7506, akg 553 pros, brainwavs hm5, Senhiser HD 598 and even some higher end headphones. All that to say for $150 headphones you can not beat these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty comfortable, not too overpowering. I've had these for close to a year now. I like the long coiled cable and the fact that it is detachable. The earpieces are pretty comfortable, the headphones themselves do not fit too snugly so I don't mind wearing them for longer periods. They have a pretty flat sound overall, could use a bit more bass but I do understand they are meant more as a studio reference monitor than general playback. I wouldn't mix exclusively on these but the overall sound doesn't cause fatigue as they aren't overly hyped up. Could be a little much on the high end for some people but I tend to like more high end as long as it isn't too harsh. As with anything it really depends on the sound you're looking for. These do not over color your music in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Headphones! I find these to be a very good pair of headphones for all sorts of uses. I mainly use these to monitor the audio of my YouTube videos while I edit them, they're great with an electric keyboard, they're great for watching movies and just general music listening sessions! The audio that these things pump out is very clear, clean and accurate! Bass isn't overpowering, but it's still there while the highs and mids are nice, crisp and clear as well. As far as comfort goes, these destroy my other sets of headphones. The earcups are nice and soft, and my ears don't get irritated after using them for extended amounts of time. The headphones also come with some nice add-ons like a coiled cable and carrying case. Overall, fantastic pair of headphones and I can definitely recommend these!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, but.... Received these headphones about a week ago from B&H, have only tested them for 2 days so they might sound better after properly run-in. They are well made, light and feels good and comfortable. The lows are nice and solid, but not overwhelming. There's a bit too much highs for my liking but it does not sound bad. What is really missing is the nice mid-range, or low-mids. This is so important in a studio or mixing environment for me. I won't mind if the highs and lows are not perfect but the mids are so important, it defines the instruments or the character of vocals, drums etc. Yes I would recommend these for casual listening, or walking around on noisy streets when you need the extra highs and lows, but NO I will not recommend these for critical studio monitoring or mixing or balancing, since I could not tell what's going on tin the mid-range. I would give it 4 stars if they do not list it as Studio monitor headphones. I hope they will sound better after the burning-in period, but I'm writing this on how I feel so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Senal SMH-1200 headphones are music to my ears As soon as you pull them out of the box you're greeted with beautiful extra deep earcups and an adjustable, squishy headband. The Black Onyx version has beautiful grey stitching that goes the entire length of the headband on the front and the back. The Senal SMH-1200's are Studio Monitors first and foremost. You can tell with these headphones that Senal tried to walk the line of accurate sound while giving a little extra punch in the low end. The mids are a joy to listen to, but the lows are where the SMH-1200's really shine. Let me say again these are Studio Monitors, so don't go in expecting Beats level bass. The goal (in my opinion) of these headphones were to provide a studio-quality sound with a slightly punched up low, and Senal nailed it. I'm not an audiophile. I absolutely love listening to music, but I just haven't ascended to the next level. But, these headphones certainly make me feel like I'm close. These headphones were provided by B&H for a fair and unbiased review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great headphones I use them mainly for video edition in final cut and i had Bose q25 and this headphone senal, have a much better audio. I can feel the sound more clear and closer to my ear. Also it feels very sturdy and the comes with a couple of cables one for your cellphone and other for the computer!! I can wear it for hours and it is light and very conformable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not usable in Real World situation These headphones have the potential to be really good, except for one major design flaw: the cable jack is not solid enough and with very little force, looses it's connection - the audio just cuts out completely. I originally bought two pairs, and both had the same problem where the cable plugs into the headphones. I returned them (kudos to B&H, no questions asked), and they sent two replacements. I was really disappointed to find they both did the same as the first pair! They are just not usable in the field where there is occasional tugging on the cable. Now, sitting still in an armchair, listening to music on my Samsung... they sound great.

Are these any good w hearing aids that go over the ear (meaning the ear piece on the headset has to have enough room around the ear that the hearing aid can hear above the ear not just in the canal)?

It's a matter of personal fit. I suspect they would not be comfortable. You would really need to try them on.

What's the difference between the 1200 and the 1000, just the ear pads or are they different drivers?
    Asked by: John W.
Based on the key specs, the 1200 have EQ Curve for Music and Monitoring, while the 1000 have EQ Curve For Field and Studio Use. But who knows what it means exactly. I suggest you to buy the 1200 because of better sound isolation.
