Voigtlander 42.5mm f/0.95 Nokton Overview

By B&H Photo's

The Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds Lens is a bright, fast portrait-length lens that provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 85mm when used on Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. This manual focus, manual exposure prime lens utilizes a Selective Aperture Control System, which renders the aperture control ring as stepless and de-clicked for silent and smooth performance. This is ideally-suited to video applications or for greater control over aperture selection while shooting.

The optical construction integrates one Super High Refractive element as well as one aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberrations and produce imagery with notable clarity and sharpness. Ten aperture blades form a nearly circular diaphragm in order to produce an aesthetic bokeh that is noticeable when using shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques and a minimum focusing distance of 9.1" supports working with close-up subject matter.

Extremely bright and fast 42.5mm f/0.95 lens produces a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 85mm when used on a Micro Four Thirds digital camera.
Selective Aperture Control System produces a stepless, de-clicked aperture ring, which provides silent and smooth exposure adjustment that is well-suited for video application.
One Super High Refractive element and one aspherical element work to produce a high image quality with immense clarity, contrast, and sharpness with a marked reduction in chromatic aberrations and color fringing.
Fully manual focus and exposure lens features an all-metal lens barrel and a 10-blade diaphragm.

question

Has anyone used this with a GH5?Seems this would be a great cost-effective alternative to the 42.5 mm Panasonic Nocticron, but will focus peaking and the 3-position rack focusing features still work with this manual focus lens?
Asked by: John
Focus peaking will work with manual lenses, like the Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds lens, however the Panasonic Transition focus rack focusing feature will not be compatible with manual lenses.

For those who are using this lens, how easy is the manual focusing, especially when shooting wide open with narrow depth of field? Thanks.
Asked by: Satyakanth
At F/0.95 you will need to be very precise to get the proper focus. You will need to take advantage of whatever focus assisting tools are available to you on your camera, such as focus peaking and magnification of the image.

Hi, will this lens work on a s35 sensor? actually all of the m43 lineup lenses from voigtlander, will they work on s35 with no crop?
Asked by: rene
It will not. This lens only covers a MFT sized sensor and its 35mm Equivalent Focal Length will be 85mm.

can it be mount on Sony 7aS ?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, you cannot. You can mount full frame lenses onto Micro 4/3 cameras, but not the other way around - the field of vision is too small.

question

Would it make any sense to use an extension tube with this lens for more of a macro effect? I realize this lens already focuses to around 9 , which is super; but, I'm trying to discern the pros & cons of an extension tube with such a fast lens. Any thoughts on this set up?
Asked by: Anonymous
It would make some sense yes. Virtualy any focal can be used with an extension tube with some levels of success. Shorter focals tend to work best with tubes but this one would definitely be one I think would be worth experimenting with. Most macro shots are shot stopped down at smaller apertures but again, with such a wide aperture it would be fun to experiment with results when shooting wide open as this lens can go.
