Portrait Prime for APS-C
Enjoy a near perfect portrait-length perspective on your APS-C E-mount camera with this black E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens from Sony. The bright design pairs with a 75mm equivalent focal length for a flattering perspective and quick focusing and image stabilization also help to achieve sharp imagery.
Optical Design
  • Flattering 75mm-equivalent focal length helps to isolate subject matter and home in on minute details.
  • Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture facilitates working in low light conditions and allows shooters to create images with an extremely shallow depth of field.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
Image Stabilization and Autofocus
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 1.3', and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.

Absolute love this lens. You can never go wrong with a 50mm. So if you’re thinking about it just do it!!

Exactly what I was looking for

I own a training gym and I was looking for something with a little wider aperture to grab some higher quality photos for my social media and website. I already had a Sony A6000 from a few years ago, but the kit lens isn't really ideal for this application. The 50mm has been amazing so far and makes me feel like a much better photographer than I actually am. As a guitarist by hobby, I know that buying high quality equipment is a great way to stoke the spark of interest and having low-budget stuff can really squash it. Would definitely recommend to friends or family!

Gets the job done.

I needed a bit longer lens for a week long event I was covering. B&H had this to me in two days and boy did this lens do a LOT of work. Paired with a6600 IBIS the 50mm with OSS is really steady. I was able to cover pro tennis matches with impressive stabilization. I love the a6600 with APSC lenses because they are small and mobile. Are there better quality lenses?...yes, but this lens is great for what it is. Compact build,OSS and pretty good image! Like I said before this lens gets the job done and pretty well. My lenses for video: Sony 11mm f1.8 Sony 15mm f1.4G Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS

great lens if ur new to photography and want a good budget prime lens! I have the sony a7riii and this lens is perfect to start out and learn how to use my new camera. if ur also a student like me I 100% recommend pros: the AMAZING price for product value. cons: the chromatic aberration and the auto focus is bad but if ur a student working in studio you will be just fine. for the price is great

Worth it!

This lens is fast, very sharp with great bokeh. It's my low-light lens. What more could you ask for in a 50mm lens?

Sony above others, no doubts after owning Nikons

For someone like me - an amateur hobbyist - this little lens is perfect for taking great photos, in particular portrait photos, of family and friends. It's affordable. It's a quality make. It's from a brand you know and trust. And because you are buying it from B&H, you know you can rely on it to be exactly what you expected.

i dont understand the term Focal Length 50mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 75mm)
Asked by: Vses
This lens is a cropped sensor lens, therefore there is a magnification factor associated with this lens relating to a full frame sensor (35mm).

Is there any way to adapt this lens to Panasonic ...

Is there any way to adapt this lens to Panasonic Lumix G5??
Asked by: larry
Not that I am aware of. Adapting native SLR lenses to Mirrorless cameras takes advantage of the larger mount flange to sensor distances required to accommodate the SLR mirror. In essence they reposition the lens to the same distance from the sensor as on the SLR. This lens is a Sony E mount which is already mirrorless (with a short mount to sensor distance) and so there is no room to fit an adapter unless it also has a corrective lens to allow it to focus on the sensor, which can be done (see the Matabones focal reducers, which effectively 'open' up the aperture) but I'm not aware of any such adapter that is made to fit mirrorless to mirrorless.

If by wide you mean "fish eye" not it is not. It is not a full frame lens so I decided to sell mine. Need a full frame lens for video

question

If it work on alpha??
Asked by: Andy F.
Sony calls everything alpha - so your question does not make sense. Did you mean to say: Does it work on A-mount? or maybe your question is: Does is work on full frame EF-mount such as can be found on A7, A7R etc.? - this lens is E-mount and will not work on A-mount cameras. It will work on the full frame EF-mount cameras in crop mode only, i.e. you get coverage of an APS-C sized sensor - this means that you will get roughly 15 Mpix picture on the 40+Mpix full frame sensor of the A7R II.

What is the best F Stop range when wanting to ...

What is the best F Stop range when wanting to photograph a 3 to 6 piece band in low light live music situations (I assume glass is not stellar on 100% of lens)?
Asked by: Duane
If you want to have them all in focus , you might want to shoot at around f-8 , if you want to focus lets say in the singer and blur the other members of the band then I found it best to be around f-2.5 depending on the distance to the subject

question

is this lens compatible with the a6000?
Asked by: Anonymous
As the Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera uses the Sony E-mount lens mount, yes, the Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens (Black) would be fully compatible for use with the Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

question

What the different of FE 50mm 1.8 which cost cheap than this? which one better for A6000?
Asked by: Vall V.
The main difference would be the camera mount. The sony E mount and sony FE mount. It looks like the a6000 is an amount camera so unless you have an E to FE adapter you would have to go with the sony E 50mm.
