    VariZoom VZ-M7 reviews

VZ-M7 7" HDMI LCD Monitor is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding picture quality! I use the monitor mainly for events but also corporate videos. I use it with my Sony NX5U. The picture has so much more detail than the flip screen on the camera. makes focus, exposure and framing so much easier! Compared to other monitors out there this is much higher resolution. I use it with the Manfrotto 814 arm and 502HD Head. In between the two I use a Calumet MF6809 Rapid connector so the monitor can be set up intsantly. Just plug in the HDMI cable and it is up and running! I love the sony battery mount, now my cam, light and monitor all run on the same L series batteries! The hood is a must have option. Don't waste your money on the whole kit, there is stuff in it you won't use. Great quality for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Monitor I bought this monitor to use instead of the 2.5 LCD on my Panasonic HMC40. My eyes are not good on up close focus, so the monitor allows me to step back and get a better view. The picture is great, nice and clear. It does have a glossy glass finish and you get some reflection of yourself, but if your focus on the picture, you don't even see your reflection. It is somewhat heavy so you need a good solid mounting system to the camera. I bought a Panasonic Battery Plate adapter, but you only get about an hour of use with a medium battery. Buy the sunscreen/hood if you use it outdoors at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value + Great Quality This monitor has a very good picture and the build quality is excellent. I really like the accessories such as the folding sun hood / screen guard and the rubber frame. Focusing is much easier with shallow DOF cameras like Canon 5D. Much better than some of the cheaper monitors I have had before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great. I needed a monitor larger than my Canon DSLR screen to make focusing easier. This does the trick. Picture isn't breathtaking but it does the job as a focus monitor. You just plug it in and off you go. The settings menu is simple enough to figure out just by playing around with it. It's kind of bulky and heavy when you run off battery power. I wish the battery plate was included and you didn't have to buy it as an accesory.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice monitor, but there are build quality issues. The VZ-M7 monitor works well and has great image quality, but be forewarned that the 1/4-20 mounting nuts are problematic. On the unit I received, the nuts on the side were not even accepting 1/4-20 screws properly. I had to open the case (voided the warranty...) and use a 1/4-20 tap to clear out the threads. Also, these side nuts are poorly mounted; simply sandwiched between the 2 halves of the plastic case. I do not think it would support the weight of the VZ-M7 for long without breaking the case. The top/bottom nuts have a bit more reinforcement, but they also mount into the plastic case. I suggest being VERY careful if you plan to support the VZ-M7 via any of these 1/4-20 nuts. Instead, I have decided to purchase a K&M Stands 19740 Universal Tablet Holder for mounting purposes (see pic). Perhaps VariZoom can jump in here with a reply or solution regarding this build-quality issue?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Monitor for it's Price tag (Using with BMPCC) Honestly this thing is really nice. It's price tag is very attractive for what it is and it has nice accessories available to enhance it's uses. One thing I wish was available though is a little bit more control over the image on screen. Shooting my BMPCC in ProRes with Film Dynamic range (even using Video as my camera's display quality) doesn't come through the HDMI channel. I know that's kind of a BMPCC issue, but the fact that I'm looking at a pretty flat looking image on the larger screen is something that technically could be fixed with more intensive monitor setting capabilities. So because of that it's a little bit hard to tell what your post-graded image might come close to looking like until you've got the experience under your belt to have an eye for it. Overall though, I really like it and I'd recommend it. But I also would like to note that it may be worth holding off until black magic releases their monitor since it'll probably have some better built in compatability with the cameras and it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg.
