Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Overview

Telephoto zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides an 88-400mm equivalent focal length range.
One Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Enhanced lens coatings minimize flare and ghosting in order to produce true colors with maintained contrast.
An STM stepping AF motor realizes smooth, near-silent autofocus that is complemented by a rear focus system, advanced AF algorithms, and a high-speed CPU for fast AF performance. Additionally, full-time manual focus override is also available.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

EFS mounts have not changed between the time I owned a 20D and when I got a 60D. I use this lens on my 60D, so I "assume" it will work on a 40D.

Can you do deep space photography with this lens? If not, what telescope and mount should I get (I am a beginner, low budget).
Asked by: Sam
The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens does not have enough focal length to do "deep space" photography. A much better device to use would be the the Celestron AstroMaster LT 80AZ 80mm f/11 Alt-Az Refractor Telescope with 900mm focal length, and a 10mm eyepiece, (included): https://bhpho.to/2Ug0YMK -making the focal length close to 81,000, this will allow for deep space photography. The ideal way to photograph deep space would be to take advantage of the magnification of the eyepiece, and shoot through the eyepiece using the Vanguard PA-202 Digiscoping Adapter: https://bhpho.to/2knbvl7 . One would use a "macro" lens on a camera and connect it to the Vanguard PA-202 to shoot through the eyepiece of the Celestron AstroMaster.
