Ricoh GW-3 overview

  • 1Description

The GW-3 21mm Wide-Angle Conversion Lens from Ricoh is designed specifically for the Ricoh GR digital camera. The GW-3 will enable a wider angle of view than that offered by the 28mm equivalent lens on the GR camera. With this conversion lens, which provides the 35mm format equivalent of a 21mm lens, you are able to shoot open vistas, cramped interiors and tight, close-in groups shots. The separate GH-3 Adapter is required to attach this lens to the camera. The GW-3 also includes a dedicated lens hood to deflect unwanted light.

0.75x wide conversion lens for use with the GR Digital Camera
Provides the angle of view equivalent to a 21mm lens in the 35mm format
Attaches to the camera using the separate GH-3 adapter
Includes a storage case and lens hood
Special Notes
The built-in flash cannot be used effectively with this lens as vignetting may occur

    Ricoh GW-3 reviews

    GW-3 21mm Wide-Angle Conversion Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun ! I love wide angle and use this for everything. It is a bit big and heavy on the GR but there is no loss of image quality or focus speed, distortion is minimal, and the camera remains razor sharp. I am not a huge fan of the rubber slip on lens hood, it also makes the lens cap tough to put on, but when you set the camera down it rests on the hood making it a non slip pad for the camera so you don't have to worry about it sliding around. I would recommend this to anyone with a GR that want's a wider lens, it is a lot of fun to shoot with. Don't forget you also need the lens adapter from the lens hood set to mount this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from City Girl Goes Country When you think Ricoh GR, you think of an urban street photography camera. Slip this on and you now you have a compact, UWA landscape camera for trips out of town. It's a heavy chunk of glass, but slips on easily with the GH-3 attachment and produces good sharpness for a conversion lens. 4 stars because the supplied rubber hood is blah, and also doesn't allow you to snap on the lens cover. Also, you need to manually change your GR's settings to put it into wide angle mode when you put the lens on. This isn't a big deal, but I wish Ricoh would update the GR's firmware to let you switch this through an assigned button, such as the Effects button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I thought that I could not do without it I bought a GR and thought that I had to have this. After getting it I realized that you also had to buy the adapter separately. So $ and 2 weeks later it arrives and I can assemble the 21mm adapter. It works very well and gives you a 21mm on a very compact camera. That said, it is big. I bought the GR so that I could have APS quality in a very small camera with a wide lens. If you put this adapter on the lens, it isn't a small camera any more. I think if I carry this with me all the time, it won't be mounted on the camera. Even so, to get a really wide lens so inexpensively is a treat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Lot Better Than You Would Think This conversion lens was purchased after reading good reviews on the web. Positives are excellent sharpness even to the edges and a true wide angle view for the photographer. Negatives are that it greatly increases the weight of the camera and introduces slight CA in the corners of the frame. The funky rubber lens hood included is responsible for the lack of a five star rating. As usual, excellent service and shipping by B&H.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great on the GR Love it on the GR. I heard it can be used on a couple other cameras as well. Minor issues are the rubber hood and how the front cap can't be used when the hood is on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of glass I have tested the lens for one week and I found the quality quite high for an add-on lens. I'd buy it again. Ricoh GR continues to surprise me and even more with this conversion lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great accessory I use this for architectural and landscape photos. It produces sharp, colorful images with no noticeable increase in distortion. It does add weight and bulk to the Ricoh GR which is known as a street shooter's camera, so some might not like it for that reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Glass-Added versatility! The GR is a compact camera which covers a lot of ground on its own and a modular snap-on wide angle lens adds even more versatility. The lens itself has received many technical merits according to reputable online reviews. My own standards have been met shooting with it in practice. It may not seem like a big difference - 28mm to 21mm, but reviewing shot after shot it really captures the extra story beyond the 28mm limit! All in all I am impressed with the clarity of the images, the versatility uptick on my favorite compact, and the almost retro aspect of attaching a hunk of glass to my GR! To protect the exposed lens go for a 62mm to 72mm converter and clear filter. The included rubber hood is superfluous unless shooting with the exposed lens, not really concerned about it.
