Pentax DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited Reviews

Great Lens

THis lens is great, very sharp, quite small which I like. I also like it for macro as you do get closer to the subject than you would with a longer focal length but this seems to actually help get and stay in focus easier than a longer focal length, atleast in my limited experience it seems this way. I think the built in lens hood is really cool too, don't have to worry about taking one on or off or keeping one on all the time which is a plus. Overall I really like it, I would say it also works well as just a general purpose lens, not exclusive for macro use since it focuses to infinity.

I always wanted to own a Limited Series lens so when this one was on a great sale I took the plunge. The construction is superb and the optics are very good. I'm very happy with this lens. However, I've owned a SMC FA 35mm f/2.0 for many years. The construction of the Limited is far superior: metal vs plastic housing, much nicer manual focus ring, built-in lens hood, etc. But as good as the Limited optics are, it is not superior to the optics of the much older and less expensive FA lens! The FA lens on a 1.5 crop camera is actually optically better and it is faster at f/2 vs f/2.8. There is nothing wrong with the HD DA 35mm f/2.8, it is just that the old FA lens (not the newer redone HD version which I've never tried) is better. A testament to just how good some of the old film era Pentax glass was. However, the older FA version is not a Macro lens like the Limited. Like other reviewers have said, at 35mm to get to 1:1 Macro, you will need to be extremely close to the subject. If you have a crop camera either the Limited or the old FA version is an excellent choice at 35mm. If you have a FF camera I would not hesitate to buy the old FA version and I would hope the new replacement HD FA version is optically as good as the old SMC FA lens.

I love this lens!

I've wanted this lens forever and finally gifted myself. It is perfect for photographing my jewelry, flowers, and family portraits. Highly recommend.

I have used this lens for different applications.  Mainly to shoot my small scale sculpture. It has the correct  geometry to better illustrate small distances and render small  objects with a three dimensional emphasis.  My 100 macro is great for tiny objects (rings, coins), but it tends  to flatten space as with any telephoto.  The lens has great glass, and is a true bargain, with a screw drive focus. (saves on the more pricy motorized lenses). Without sacrifice of image quality. Most macro work is done hand focused on a tripod anyway.  It is also good for portraits, and field work when you want to isolate your subject. It has a learning curve to understand the focal space is like a curtain of clarity.  Love this lens

I bought this lens when I bought the Pentax K-1 in November 2017. There is a little corner vignetting in full frame mode that is easy to crop. I use crop or square mode with no problems. Excellent lens and camera for wildflower photos. Good macro depth of field.

A unique, excellent lens for a nice price

This lens is small, light, well built, macro, corresponds to a standard lens on an APS-C camera, and is very, very sharp already at full aperture. Cherries on the cake, it takes 'Pentax standard' 49mm filter, and it has a very convenient hood built-in. Cannot ask for more than this.

+ Great prime lens, fine for close up and macro + Works great with Pentax KP, excellent image quality + Fast autofocus + All metal design + Fixed adjustable sun (lens) hood - Quite noisy when it's focusing - Lens cap just fits in combination with an UV filter

question

Is this lens sealed and water resistant?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, the Pentax 35mm f/2.8 macro lens is not a WR lens, so is not weather sealed. The only macro lens from Pentaxt that is currently a WR lens would be the Pentax 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro lens (B&H # PE10028MDFAW).
