Metabones MB_NFG-E-BM1 overview

  • 1Description

The matte black Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter from Metabones allows you to attach a Nikon F-mount G lens to a Sony NEX camera, including an NEX full frame camera. Metabones' adapters are precision-machined with brass and plated with chromium on both sides of the adapter. It is also designed to allow lenses to reach infinity focus while maintaining the correct registration distance required to support CRC lenses or lenses with floating elements.

This adapter features a clickless 7-stop aperture ring with half-stop markings and a detachable tripod foot compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, and Photo cam ball head tripods. Additionally, its matte black finish minimizes internal reflections so as to maintain image quality.

To note, automatic lens functions, like autofocus, will not be retained when using this adapter.

Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter (Matte Black) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Smooth aperture ring but loosed connecti Nikon G to adapter side fits perfectly with just right tightness. Camera Mount to Adapter is loosed so that it does not lock into place. During operation, the lens+adapter combo move back and forth about 2 degree. Camera to adapter fitting should be tight in place and not moving. In comparison, sony Nex to A original adapter fit perfectly on both side (lens and camera). I also have a Novoflex Yashica to Nex, which also fit perflectly and tight on the camera to adapter side, so this rules out the issue at the camera mount, but rather it's a adapter issue. Other than that, i like the smooth aperture ring.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work on Sony A7s and no support from Metabones The first one I ordered wouldn't attach to Sony A7s. The replacement attached to the camera but I couldn't attach Nikon AIS, non-AIS, or G lens. (I can see metal parts of the two mounts clashing as I try to attach the lens.) I tried to contact Metabones for advice since they do not include any instructions. The e-mail bounced back because their mailbox is full. No phone# on the website. Seems like they don't want to be bothered. You could try this product but it would be cheaper to just bang your head on the wall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Quality Adapter i just recently purchased a Sony A-7R to use in lieu of my Nikon D800 but this FF E-mount system lacks lens selection and wanted to use my Nikon G type lenses especially the Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 for landscapes. After reading numerous reviews on various adapters on the market, I decided to go with the metabones for built quality of a Novoflex minus the made in Germany price tag. The Metabones falls in between the Novoflex and the cheaper Fotodiox. I chose the Metabones over Fotodiox because 1) it has a tripod mount designed for heavy lenses, 2) in reading some reviews about the Fotodiox, the aperture ring rotates on its own causing unpredictable f-stop change (some people complaint about this and decided to tape the f-stop ring).Personally, I feel that the built quality and tightness of the Metabones for little over $ was well worth it's usability and lens security.I gave it 4 stars because there's nothing too fancy about it except it's a bit over priced for a non-functional adapter!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great when it works I am using this to adapt my Nikon D/G lenses for my A7. This adapter works great for the majority of my lenses but when I try to use it with my Nikon 50mm 1.8 D, the lens will not twist all the way onto the adapter. After some investigating I found that the 3 metal leafs inside the adapter that provides some retention and feedback for the attached lens is getting jammed against the lens mount. If I then depress the metal leaf while attaching the lens then the lens would attach properly. I'm going to give it some time to see if it improves, but hopefully this will assist any other users which encounter the same problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Also works with non-G lenses Contrary to the answer submitted by a B&H staffer that this adapter only works with G-Nikkors, I was pleasantly surprised that it ALSO works with AF-D and AIS Nikkors. With the adapter aperature ring set at 7 (minimum aperture), one can use the aperture ring on non-G lenses. It also works with the AF-D lens aperture ring locked at minimum f-stop and varying the adapter's ring. I prefer former procedure as I do not have to guess the actual f-stop used. This adapter is preferrable to cheaper ones which controls exposure with a separate diaphragm within the adapter (I should be clear that this adapter adjusts the lens's own diaphragm).I took off 1 star for the lack of instructions and the absence of the ball-bearing mechanism to allow me to convert the clickless diaphragm ring to a clickable one. The Metabones website stated that all adapters came with the click-stop conversion kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I needed an adapter to use my Nikon G and AI lenses on a Sony NEX-6. I wanted an aperture adjustable adapter (for my Nikon G lenses) that provides a 1/4-20 threaded foot to use my heavier lenses without straining the camera tripod socket. I first looked at FotodioX adapters because they are less expensive and spoke with one of their techs. He was very helpful, but FotodioX does not offer and aperture adjustable with a tripod mount. If you do not need the tripod mount, consider FotodioX. They have superb customer service (ask for Luis Baltazar).Metabones offered aperture control and tripod mounting. I now can use my collection of Nikon G lenses with aperture control and tripod support if needed.Great product and giving the quality, reasonably priced. Only down side is that it is not made in the USA.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Metabones is not good with a quick response to questions. No phone contact, just email. I had a hard time finding out just how this product worked, but eventually found a knowledgeable B&H voice who filled me in. Essentially it is just a tube that holds a Nikon lens away from the Sony body so the focus falls on the sensor priorly. There is no information passed through the tube beyond the photons. So you must pick focus, exposure and shutter speed on your own. However, you can look at the histogram on the image in the camera and get a pretty good idea of exposure. Focus may be a bit harder. I wouldn't recommend relying on this to adapt a Nikon lens for a basic setup, but it certainly is useful to adapt a special purpose lens for a special shot. The product seems well made and does what it claims.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This adaptor fits and works very well I bought the Sony a7s full frame and wanted to use Nikon lenses I have. This Nikon G lens adaptor mounts the lens easily. I had a cheaper adaptor I bought with the camera and it is stiff and does not work like the Metabones. I have the Metabones Speed Booster for my Sony Nex 7that makes it FF for any Nikon lens (manual) so this supplier makes good stuff. This adaptor lets you mount any Nikon lens you want on the 7 series. The Canon version actually works electronically with the camera not just manual I believe.
