Metabones MB_NFG-E-BM1 Reviews

Nice and Solid unit

I bought this adaptor to mount my Nikon F mount lenses to my Sony FS-5 MKii. I needed an aperture ring to control the aperture on some of my lenses like the Sigma 18-35. I was going to go with a cheaper unit, but I'm glad I went with the Metabones. I knew from past experience with a Metabones Speedbooster on my older BMPCC that the company made really high quality items. That high quality is present on this adaptor as well - although it is NOT a Speedbooster. Some reviews claim that lenses won't fit, or it won't mount to their E Mounts. The fact is that the Metabones units do fit very tight and make a VERY solid connection to both the camera and the lens. I also like the fact that it has a support shoe because the Sigma 18-35 is a pretty heavy lens - although the shoe it's too short for the FS-5 and I needed to add a block under it to rest on the tripod head for proper lens support. All in all this probably the best basic, aperture adjustable adaptor out there. It's pricey, but it is a nice and solid unit. The reason I give it 4 stars and not five is due to its price - it should be a bit lower in price for what its is. That said I have owned other low price adaptors and the build quality on them was very poor. Get the Metabones, you won't be disappointed at all.

Don't sell your Nikon Lenses!

This goes between your Nikon lens and your Sony E mount camera such as the A7Sii and A7Rii. It has an aperture ring that works with lenses with and without their own aperture ring. The base fits Arca Swiss clamps...but, and it's a big but, the clamp will interfere with the bottom of the camera AND if the lens is a big one, like the 17-35, the lens will interfere with the clamp. Chris Henjar makes a little foot that replaces the Metabones foot and it is just a little taller. If you go looking for this foot, be sure to mention that your Metabones adapter has an aperture ring. Otherwise you will be grinding a relief channel for the aperture ring. I had to do that and it wasn't a big deal, but it didn't look to nice. Chris is making one that has the relief already cut into the foot. So far all of my lenses have worked, albeit manual focus is required. The sharpness on the AR7ii is just as good as on any of my Nikon bodies.

Metabones for Nikon G adapter e-mount

I purchased this meta ones adapter to use with the Sony alpha 7 r II system so I could use the Nikon G series of lenses. It does work well, this some loss of automatic function however Inuse manual mostly. I have use the 24-70 lens with great results as well as the 50 mm. Will shortly try the Nikon 70-200. The device fits snugly into the camera . The 7ARII is an e-mount. But have not found it to be an issue. The lens fitting to the device is tight but doable. It just needs some patience.

Best fitting adapter and bonus clickless aperture control!!

This Metabones adapter is the highest quality I have yet used. Snug fit and no wobbles. Very solid construction. The added bonus for video shooters like me is that this version, designed to give aperture control on the G series lenses, also gives clickless aperture control on all other Nikon lenses. Just set your lens for the smallest aperture and use the control on the adapter for smooth changes.

Bad physical quality

I would use this adapter with Sony a7SII and body side was OK, but lens side is too tight and I couldn't remove lens! After I managed to detach lens, mount was chipper off...

Best adapter for Nikon glass

I've used Novoflex and Fotodiox adapters for my Nikon lenses on both a7s II and a7r III. This metabones is more sturdy, with a smoother iris ring and allows no movement in the mount. It even has a tripod socket. Amazing product at a fair price, cheaper than novoflex

Great on the NEX-FS700

Works very well on my NEX-FS700. Using Sigma 18-35, Tokina 11-16, and Sigma 50-150. Beware - you do need to have or purchase an end cap - the adapter doesn't come with one.

question

I want to use my 70-200 2.8 VR II on Sony A7, Can I do?Has AF?Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, you will be able to use a Nikkor 70-200mm VR II f/2.8 on the Sony A7 with this adapter, since it is a Nikon G lens. However, you will not be able to use electronic functions such as autofocus.

question

I recently purchased a Sony a6000 and would like an e-mount adapter for my Nikon lenses. I have a Nikkor 18-200 1:3.5-5.6 G ED DX lens (no aperture ring) and a Nikkor 70-200 1:28 G ED lens (no aperture ring) as well as a Micro Nikkor 200 m 1:4 D lens (with aperture ring) and a Nikkor 1:2.8 D 20mm (with aperture ring). Is there an adapter that will accommodate both types of lenses? Which adapters would you recommend for these lenses?
Asked by: Anonymous
Since not all of your lenses are G lenses, I would not advise you to use this particular Nikon F mount to Sony E mount adapter. I suggest the Voigtlander adapter, which will enable to use the manual aperture ring on the 200mm f/1.4D lens, and will enable to you to control the aperture speed of your G lenses through the camera body. Please note however, that automatic lens functions will not be retained with the use of this adapter, such as autofocus or auto exposure: http://bhpho.to/1jwxfRW

question

I just purchased a Sony A7 from you. I have an NEX-7 so can use those lenses but I also have a large selection of various generations of Nikon lenses (vintages from my old F3 to current D800) that I would like to use on this body. What is the correct adapter. I see some from Metabones but they specifically indicate Nikon to NEX and not A7.
Asked by: Anonymous
The Metabones Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter is compatible with the Sony full frame E mount cameras such as the a7 and a7R. This adapter would be a good option for using your Nikon lenses on the a7 and NEX-7.

question

I want to use this with my Nikon G 70-300 mm lens (which is somewhat heavy). Does the foot have a 1/4-20 thread machined in it so I can mount my Manfrotto plate taking the stress off the NEX-6 tripod socket when using this lens on a tripod?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it does. The foot of the adapter is designed to fit into Arca-Swiss type quick release assemblies, but can be removed to reveal a standard 1/4-20 thread size to connect to standard tripod heads and plates.

I have a AF Nikkor 85mm 1:1.8D and AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8D lens. Would this be the right adapter to use with the Sony A7 body. Both lenses have aperture rings. I understand that all focusing would be manual. Thanks.

question

Is this the proper adapter for mounting the AF-S Micro-Nikkor F2.8G ED lens on the Sony A7 camera...?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Metabones Nikon G Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter would be the correct adapter to connect the Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor f/2.8G ED lens to the E-mount on the Sony Alpha a7 Mirrorless Digital Camera. (The lens focal number was not listed above, but if it is a Nikon f/2.8G lens as you indicate, it would be the correct adapter).
